Catherine blinked, her eyes wide as she watched Lawrence type command after command, his fingers flying across the keyboard with practiced ease. She’d always thought only the creator of the Zero System could crack this kind of problem, but Lawrence had solved it like it was nothing at all.
She rested her chin in her palm and stared at him, full of admiration. Letting him work as just some regular consultant at Nexus Dynamics felt like such a waste. Did the boss even know what kind of talent they had sitting right under their nose?
Her husband was absolutely a genius.
She glanced at the timer on the screen. Ten minutes. That was all it took for Lawrence to fix a problem she’d been struggling with for days.
When he finished, Lawrence turned to her and found her gazing up at him, her eyes sparkling with pure awe. He reached out and ruffled her hair.
“What’s up? Why are you looking at me like that?”
Catherine grinned and wrapped her arms around his neck, burrowing into his chest. “My husband is incredible. You’re my idol, you know that?”
Lawrence laughed softly at her words. “You’re pretty incredible yourself. Did you know your Resonance AI blew my mind?”
“Really?” Catherine tilted her face up, her smile bright.
He pressed his forehead to hers, letting out a gentle sigh. “Yeah. For a while, everyone at Nexus Dynamics thought your Resonance AI was the Zero System’s main rival.”
That was why, five years ago, he’d started searching for its mysterious creator. He never gave up, not even once.
Now, Resonance AI was about to become part of Nexus Dynamics. And Catherine was his.
She giggled, obviously proud. “Well, of course.”
Lawrence couldn’t help but laugh, his heart softening at her playful confidence. He slid his arms around her waist, pulling her closer. Her cheeks were tinged with pink, and he dipped his head to press a kiss to her lips. “Feeling a little smug, aren’t we?”
His kiss sent a thrill through her, but she still managed to retort, “Obviously. Your wife is kind of a big deal.”
He chuckled. “Yeah, you’re the best.”
Their faces were so close, breaths mingling, noses brushing. The air between them turned warmer, thicker with something unspoken.
Catherine could feel his heartbeat, strong and steady, right against her cheek. His eyes were so intense, it felt like he could pull her right in.
“Lawrence...” Her voice was small, laced with shyness and trust.
“Hm?” He cupped her face, his gaze drawn to her lips.
Catherine took a breath, then lifted her chin and kissed him first.
Lawrence tensed for a split second, then melted into the kiss, slow and tender. His hand pressed gently at her back, holding her close.
The air in the study felt like it was buzzing. Under the soft glow of the lamp, they kissed, lost in each other, unwilling to let go.
Eventually, Lawrence pulled away just enough to speak, his breathing uneven but his voice gentle and firm. “Catherine, can you wait three more months?”
He wanted to give her the perfect wedding, and a perfect wedding night.
Just then, her assistant poked her head in. “Shirley, Waldo wants to see you.”
Shirley’s expression tightened a bit. She stood and walked to Waldo’s office, giving the door a light knock.
“Waldo, you wanted me?”
He looked up. “I need you to come with me to the summit the day after tomorrow.”
Shirley thought about seeing Lawrence and Catherine there, and a sly smile curved her lips. “Of course, Waldo.”
He leaned back, looking serious. “I’ve heard Nexus Dynamics is giving a speech at the summit. Nicol was supposed to represent them, but now I’ve got word the company’s founder will be there to speak.”
Shirley’s eyes widened. “The founder is finally showing up? I thought you said it was Nicol?”
Waldo set his pen down, his eyes distant. “Looks like I was wrong.” He sounded almost obsessed with figuring out who the real founder was.
Something told him the founder’s appearance was directly aimed at The James Group.
After all, there were things The James Group had done that couldn’t exactly be discussed in public.
Nexus Dynamics had always worked closely with the government on tech projects. Could it be that their founder planned to step up and play enforcer now?
Waldo’s gaze grew sharp, a hint of coldness flickering there. He was determined to see for himself what kind of person this mysterious founder really was.

They are on a base. Alice and Shirley need to be approved and sponsored to enter. What are they worried for? Can random people just come on base?...
I’m glad the tech team has a conscience. I was also thinking the same thing about the team being the one to build it because Shirley doesn’t code anything....
This hearing is being drug out like one in real life....
How does Shirley think she can dismiss and call witnesses at will in the courtroom, telling Amy that she could leave now?...
The audacity. She just insulted his deceased wife and their child, but she wants justice? 🤣🤣...
This is the most delusional couple. Making up slights against themselves from people who couldn’t care less. Twisting everything into their own narrative of what they think and feel....
Finally. It’s all out there....
I hope he remembers to stop access to anything Alice currently has the rights to take....
Didn’t Alice bring food? She left it. I would definitely have it tested....
