After the Fall A Leap into a Stranger's Arms novel Chapter 272

Nicol cleared his throat. “Just a few months early, that’s all.”

But honestly, that wasn’t the real issue. The real issue was that her husband happened to be his boss.

Lawrence smiled and gently ruffled her hair. “Come on, let’s get moving.”

“I’ll just hitch a ride with you,” Nicol said, not even bothering to pretend he wanted to drive today.

The three of them left the Nexus Dynamics apartment building, headed toward the summit. Somehow, Nicol ended up driving anyway.

The summit was set to start at ten. They pulled up at nine fifty, barely on time. As they walked in, they ran right into another group coming from the opposite direction. Waldo stood there, one hand in his pocket, surrounded by several of his company’s top execs. Shirley was there too, with her own team in tow.

Waldo’s eyes locked on Catherine. She was in a sharp suit today, looking totally independent, confident, and honestly, completely stunning.

But now, she was standing next to Lawrence.

A dark flash crossed Waldo’s eyes. He’d put out a hit on the dark web and someone had already accepted the job, but nothing had happened yet. The lack of action was starting to really get under his skin.

If things had gone his way, there was no way Lawrence would be here today.

“Catherine, Lawrence, what are the odds?” Shirley called out. She couldn’t help glancing at Lawrence, drawn in by that powerful vibe he gave off. How did a supposedly ordinary consultant manage to feel so… in charge?

“Waldo, good morning,” Nicol greeted him with a friendly smile.

Waldo finally tore his gaze away from Catherine and looked at Nicol, raising an eyebrow. “Nicol, I heard the founder of Nexus Dynamics is showing up today. Could you introduce me later?”

Nicol chuckled. “That depends on my boss’s mood. I don’t really get to make those calls.”

Waldo felt a flicker of embarrassment but forced a smile. “Seriously? Is your president really that untouchable?”
