“Mm, good night,” Catherine murmured, her voice muffled by sleep.
Lawrence switched off the light, but instead of heading to bed, he made his way back to the study. He never took risks without a plan, and with the acquisition of The James Group ahead, every detail had to be perfect.

The next day, just after four in the afternoon, Catherine arrived at Nettie’s studio. The makeup team she’d arranged was already there, waiting for her.
On a mannequin stood an evening gown in the softest shade of green, its tailoring impeccable, the fabric smooth and expensive. The color reminded her of a sunlit forest, mysterious and elegant, with a cool edge that set it apart.
“Nettie, this is incredible!” Catherine couldn’t help but gasp.
Nettie folded her arms, grinning with pride. “I knew you’d love it. This one’s my masterpiece, inspired by Artemis, goddess of the hunt. Slip it on, and you’ll be a goddess, too.”
Catherine rolled the name around in her mind. It felt right for her mood today. “Then this is the one.”
The makeup artist and hairstylist jumped into action. Thirty minutes later, Catherine looked at her reflection and barely recognized herself. Her skin glowed, the green dress transformed her into a queen straight out of a fairytale. She didn’t need to hide or hold back anymore. Tonight, she was in control of her own story.
“Absolutely perfect,” Nettie declared.
Catherine gave a soft smile. She felt stronger than ever, and it wasn’t just her own confidence. She knew she had someone in her corner, someone who loved her no matter what.
Her phone buzzed. Lawrence was calling to say he’d arrived.
“I’m heading out,” Catherine said, grabbing her clutch and heading downstairs.
Outside, a sleek black car waited at the curb. Lawrence stepped out, looking sharp in a dark gray suit. He stood tall, exuding quiet confidence. When he saw Catherine walking toward him, carefully holding her gown, his eyes filled with open admiration and pride.
His gaze made Catherine’s heart flutter. She stopped in front of him. “Well? How do I look?”
“Is that his girlfriend?”
“No, look—they’re both wearing rings. That’s his wife,” someone pointed out.
Waldo struggled to keep his feelings in check, forcing a polite smile as he walked over. “Lawrence, Catherine, welcome.”
“Congratulations to both of you,” Lawrence replied, his arm still wrapped protectively around Catherine.
Catherine offered a gentle smile. “Congratulations.”
Shirley managed a thank you, her voice barely steady. “Thank you for coming.”
Without lingering, Catherine and Lawrence made their way toward the banquet hall, leaving Shirley and Waldo at the entrance. Their smiles stayed in place for the crowd, but it was obvious to anyone paying attention that all was not well.

I’m glad I hung in there for all 368 chapters. This was a really good story!...
They are on a base. Alice and Shirley need to be approved and sponsored to enter. What are they worried for? Can random people just come on base?...
I’m glad the tech team has a conscience. I was also thinking the same thing about the team being the one to build it because Shirley doesn’t code anything....
This hearing is being drug out like one in real life....
How does Shirley think she can dismiss and call witnesses at will in the courtroom, telling Amy that she could leave now?...
The audacity. She just insulted his deceased wife and their child, but she wants justice? 🤣🤣...
This is the most delusional couple. Making up slights against themselves from people who couldn’t care less. Twisting everything into their own narrative of what they think and feel....
Finally. It’s all out there....
I hope he remembers to stop access to anything Alice currently has the rights to take....
Didn’t Alice bring food? She left it. I would definitely have it tested....
