The press conference finally wrapped up after two long hours. Catherine wasted no time weaving through the crowd, her eyes set on Magee’s team.
Just as they were about to head out, she caught up and stepped right in front of Magee, lifting a hand. “Mr. Magee, could you wait a second? I just need a few minutes of your time.”
One of Magee’s assistants immediately eyed her, clearly thinking she was just another pushy reporter. “Miss, we’re not giving interviews right now.”
Catherine opened her mouth to explain, but before she could get a word out, a low, familiar voice spoke up. “She’s not a reporter.”
She turned to see Lawrence walking over. Relief and happiness flickered across her face as he came to her side, sliding an arm around her shoulders like it was the most natural thing in the world. “Magee, let me introduce you. This is my wife, Catherine.”
Magee’s jaw practically hit the floor. His whole team exchanged looks, totally blindsided by the fact that the woman bold enough to stop the Vice President of Nexus Dynamics was actually Lawrence’s wife.
“So you’re Catherine.” Magee quickly pulled himself together and offered a warm smile. “Sorry about that. What did you want to talk about?”
Catherine returned his smile. “Mr. Magee, do you mind if we talk somewhere private?”
Magee glanced at Lawrence, then gave a gentle nod. “Lawrence, why don’t you bring Catherine to the office? This isn’t the best place for a conversation.”
“Sure,” Lawrence said, taking her hand. “Come on, let’s go.”
Catherine nodded and followed him out, climbing into his car.
On the drive over, she tried a few times to explain her plan, but Lawrence just shook his head each time, gently stopping her.
