Catherine pulled out her phone and quickly sent him the usual brand and type she liked. Not even fifteen minutes later, Lawrence was back with a shopping bag in hand, filled with exactly what she needed.
She took the bag upstairs. When she came back down, there was a glass of warm milk waiting on the table. Her heart melted a little. Was that for her?
She felt genuinely cared for. Actions like these always meant more than any sweet words.

The next morning, Catherine caught a ride to work with Lawrence. When they parked in the underground garage, she was about to get out when Lawrence gently grabbed her hand.
“If you don’t feel well today, just take the day off,” he said, his voice soft.
Catherine smiled and shook her head. “I’m not that fragile. It’s just a normal thing, not an illness. I’ll be fine.”
She definitely wasn’t about to ask for time off on only her second day at work.
“Alright, but if you need anything, call me,” Lawrence said, finally letting go of her hand.
They walked together toward the elevator lobby. Just as they reached the bright, open space, the sound of heels echoed across the floor. A stunning, confident woman with a designer handbag strolled in.
The moment she spotted Lawrence, her cool expression instantly lit up.
“Lawrence, what a coincidence.” Laura, the Public Relations Director, spoke in a sweet, almost syrupy voice. She stepped right up to Lawrence, eyes barely leaving him.
Catherine instinctively gave them some space, stepping back a little. Who’s this gorgeous woman?
“Lawrence, I have a few technical questions. Do you have time for lunch today?” Laura asked, tilting her head just so.
Lawrence looked completely unfazed, his answer distant. “I’m busy.”
Laura’s smile faded for a split second. That’s when she finally noticed Catherine standing nearby and gave her a quick, sizing-up glance. Since when did the company have such a pretty new hire?
