Catherine looked up at Lawrence. Right now, he was nothing like his usual gentle self. There was something powerful about him, almost intimidating, and it surrounded him like a force field.
Being protected like this warmed Catherine in a way she didn’t expect. She found herself looking up at him, unable to hide how much it meant to her.
Waldo noticed. Ever since Lawrence had shown up, Catherine hadn’t taken her eyes off him. Waldo didn’t even get a single glance, not even from the corner of her eye.
“Lawrence, who do you think you are? Do you honestly believe I’m afraid of you?” Waldo said, his face clouding over. The fact that Lawrence had gotten under his skin only made him angrier.
Lawrence’s response was calm and cool. “Waldo, never underestimate your opponent.”
“My opponent? Please. You really think you’re even in my league?” Waldo sneered, his voice dripping with contempt.
Catherine had heard enough. Waldo was nothing like he used to be. Now he was just arrogant, thinking he was better than everyone else, and didn’t respect anyone at all.
“Honey, let’s go,” Catherine said, slipping her arm around Lawrence’s waist.
Lawrence smiled. “Sure.” Neither of them bothered to look back at Waldo.
As soon as they disappeared from view, Waldo slammed his fist into the railing, furious. How could he be brushed off by someone so ordinary, just an engineer?
He let out a cold laugh. Lawrence, this is just the start. Someday, when I’m on top, I’ll make sure you have no place in the tech world.
The moment they stepped off the terrace, Catherine turned to Lawrence, her voice low and full of surprise and happiness. “What are you doing here?”
“I came to take you home,” Lawrence replied, his laughter soft and warm.
