Nettie barely had time to catch her breath after stepping off the cruise ship before she was swept straight into Fashion Week. The past few days had been a complete whirlwind for her. Meanwhile, Catherine had been through so much herself. The moment they got in the car, they couldn’t stop talking, stories tumbling out one after another.
“Hold on, The James Group got their hands on your Resonance AI?” Nettie nearly shouted, eyes wide. She was the only person outside the tech world who even knew Catherine had developed it.
“I was a step too late. Shirley put out her version first, and Waldo rushed to file the patent for her,” Catherine replied, her voice tight.
“Those two are unbelievable.”
“I’m not worried about getting it back, honestly. I’m collecting evidence now. It’s just going to take a little time.”
Nettie leaned back, looking at Catherine with pure admiration. “So now that you’ve joined Nexus Dynamics, does this mean the genius girl of tech is officially back? I was the first to protest when you left five years ago.”
Catherine grinned. “Let’s not talk about that. Sometimes you have to learn the hard way. My only goal now is to make a ton of money and spoil my husband.”
That was news to Nettie. She’d only just learned Catherine’s husband was just a regular engineer at Nexus Dynamics. But it was obvious Catherine was genuinely happy, way happier than she’d ever been with Waldo.
As they drove, a sharp hissing noise suddenly broke the rhythm of their conversation.
“Oh no, I think we’ve got a flat,” Nettie said, guiding the car slowly over to the side of the road.
She leaned out and checked. “Yep, we’re going to have to call a tow truck.”
“Do we have a spare?” Catherine asked, glancing at the back.
“Yeah, it’s in the trunk, but neither of us has a clue how to change it,” Nettie admitted with a sigh.
Catherine thought for a second. “We’re not far from my place. I’ll ask my husband to come help.”
Catherine just kept watching him, eyes full of admiration, unable to look away.
“You hit a nail,” Lawrence said after a quick inspection. He popped open the trunk and lifted the spare tire out with one hand.
He got to work with the jack, the veins standing out on his forearms with each motion. Every move was steady and confident, and there was something about it that made Catherine’s heart beat a little faster.
It wasn’t just her. As Lawrence worked, a few women passing by couldn’t help but glance his way.
Then, out of nowhere, a luxury car rolled by. Inside, Waldo was lost in thought, staring out the window. His gaze landed on Catherine, standing under the trees, and his eyes narrowed in shock.
“Pull over,” Waldo barked at his driver, his tone urgent.

I’m glad I hung in there for all 368 chapters. This was a really good story!...
They are on a base. Alice and Shirley need to be approved and sponsored to enter. What are they worried for? Can random people just come on base?...
I’m glad the tech team has a conscience. I was also thinking the same thing about the team being the one to build it because Shirley doesn’t code anything....
This hearing is being drug out like one in real life....
How does Shirley think she can dismiss and call witnesses at will in the courtroom, telling Amy that she could leave now?...
The audacity. She just insulted his deceased wife and their child, but she wants justice? 🤣🤣...
This is the most delusional couple. Making up slights against themselves from people who couldn’t care less. Twisting everything into their own narrative of what they think and feel....
Finally. It’s all out there....
I hope he remembers to stop access to anything Alice currently has the rights to take....
Didn’t Alice bring food? She left it. I would definitely have it tested....
