Chapter 220
AELIANA
I’ve been screaming at Kingston for a very long time, and yet neither one of us has achieved the outcome we desire from this. He keeps insisting he did nothing wrong, he keeps making Audrey out to be innocent and just a friend, but that’s not what I saw. Kingston needs to start being honest with himself, he’s not as perfect as we make him out to be and that fucking hurts me because I never know when this side of him will show.
I hold a hand up, shaking my head. “You know, if you are going to embarrass me, the least you can do is inform me beforehand because when you surprise me in public like that….” I sigh, tired of arguing.
“I didn’t mean to do anything like that,” he says, for the hundredth time in the last five minutes. “You know I’d never do that, right?”
Do I? No.
What I do know is he loves her, and I do believe he loves me too, but she comes before me. They’ve spent years loving each other and getting close, but still, I expect some sort of loyalty. “You promised me you’d-”
“I can explain,” I swallow.
“You smell like her,” I tell him. In all this, he must have missed that little detail when explaining how it is that nothing happened between them. Her scent lingers on him, mixed with her sweet perfume, the scent absolutely revolting to me.
He shakes his head, looking hopeless, worried. “I didn’t touch her.”
Didn’t touch her? “I was there, King. You not only kissed but carried her out of the club.”
“Yes, but it’s not what it looks like, she kissed me.”
I pause, “And that changes something? You let her kiss you.”
“I pulled back instantly,” he counters. “I let her know she was drunk and—”
“You went to Rivers for her,” I swallow.
“Yes, but only because it was an emergency, she…it’s complicated, but I swear on my life, Siren. It was nothing, I didn’t kiss her, and I can assure you nothing of this sort will ever repeat itself, I promise.”
“Instead of giving me more promises, why don’t you tell me why you were with her?”
He sighs, massaging his temples. “I can’t tell you, I gave her my word, but I was a friend to her nothing more. Let’s forget this, can we? It’s not worth the fight.”
I pause, an eyebrow raised at him. “So she’s not worth the fight?”
“No.”
“Okay,” I nod. There’s no point moving this along, I’ve heard a few stupid excuses, and I don’t want to hear more. I’m hurt, and talking isn’t going to fix that, at least not this conversation.
,་་
He stares, taking my hands into his. I twitch from the memory of him using these very hands to carry her earlier. ”
you forgive me?”
Do
My response is instant, clipped. “Yes.”

“I’m sorry, Siren.’
I pull away, wiping my hands on my dress. “Stop saying sorry to me, that word will lose meaning.”
“I love you,” he offers, his tone wary.
I nod, “I know.”
“Did you have dinner?” He asks, forcing a smile. A smile I don’t want to see right now, I’m still very much sore about what happened earlier tonight. “We can have dinner together if=”
I notice my phone vibrating on the bed. “Kill that thought,” I warn, rushing for my phone. “I have to take this,” I say, staring down at the unknown caller ID from a landline. “Hello?” I answer.
“Am I speaking to Luna Aeliana?”
“Yes, this is she.” I nod to myself, “Who am I talking to?”
“It’s sister Milan from-”
“I know,” I shift anxiously. The foundation has never called me before, much less this late. “Did something happen?”
“Yes,” she says. “We have a problem with one of the kids, umm little Calen.”
“What happened?” I swallow, my heart suddenly racing against my chest.
“He hurt himself a few days ago, and has been asking for you since then, we handled it a little, but ever since we brought him back from the doctors, he’s been asking for you again. I have him in the spare room to avoid him disturbing the other kids, but he won’t go to bed.”
“I’m on my way.”
“No, Luna.” She gasps. “I was going to ask if you could speak to him on the phone.”
“It’s okay, I’ll come over.” I smile. It’ll give me some time away from Kingston, and I desperately need that or I’m going to cause a scene.
“Are you sure?” Sister Milan asks, sounding rather anxious, as if sorry she called me.
I nod to myself, “Yes, see you soon.”
The call drops instantly, and I find Kingston staring at me, waiting expectantly. “Where are you going?” He asks.
I pull my dress over my head and step out of my heels. “Aeliana?” Kingston chokes out, sounding rather worried.
“To see Calen,” I tell him, rushing past him to my closet. I pull out a pair of leggings and a t-shirt, the fact that I can’t get dressed fast enough irritating me.
Kingston comes close, too close for his current state. “Did something happen to him?”
“Yes, he’s giving the sisters a hard time because he wants to see me, and he’s sick.”
“You could go tomorrow morning.”
I almost laugh at that, so I can make a kid wait until tomorrow, but he can’t do the same to Audrey? No. My bones rattle with a known defiance and pettiness. “If you can kiss your friend, I don’t see why I can’t kiss a sick baby goodnight,” I tell him, pulling the shirt over my head and tugging it down like it did something wrong. “Calen is a child, a little boy who needs me right now, so I’m going now.”
