“Come on, don’t do that,” Rowan sighs. “That’s not fair, you know he has always loved you, we all do. You’re our girl Ellie, but you’re his life too.”
“Row,” I swallow.
“You’ll ruin your relationship if you keep doubting him this way. Why don’t you see a professional if it’s so hard for you to trust each other? Because this is messed up.”
“I just needed some time,” I say, fiddling with my fingers.
A professional? No thanks, I’m not going to sit across from someone who will judge me and tell me I’m not right in the head. I know I’m not, the confirmation from a third party seems unnecessary to me.
“You always do,” he says. “And when you do that, it fucks with him. Kingston has a lot on his plate, Aeliana, he doesn’t focus enough to do shit when you need space and in the long run, that could hurt our pack. You two need to work out whatever hell it is that keeps chasing you. I hope you know that Kingston needs space too sometimes, but he needs it with you, that’s the difference between your ideas of your space..”
I pause, “Are you saying I’m at fault?”
“No,” he softly argues. “No one is at fault, couples fight, you two aren’t the first or last mates to do so, but what I’m saying is you could ease up on him. Because when you’re mad, he’s mad, and the next person to fuck up even in the slightest around him could get hurt.”
“Okay,” I nod, wanting the conversation to be over and done with, but I guess I forgot that Kingston tends to obsess over things that don’t go his way, and right now, that’s me. I haven’t been exactly yielding to his will, and it’s making him spiral.
Rowan turns to me again, “Yeah?” He asks, his tone surprised.
“Sure,” I say, staring down at my lap. My phone lights up with a text, only to be met with an image of Kingston and Audrey outside some luxury hotel. These aren’t his clothes from yesterday, so I assume the picture was just taken today, or another day when I didn’t notice. “Rowan,” I coo, my finger twitching against the phone.
“Hmm?”
“Why didn’t he pick me up himself?”
“Kingston?” He asks, “He said you needed some space.’
“And where is he?”
“The packhouse,” he says, keeping his eyes on the road. I can’t help but laugh to myself. I don’t remember the packhouse looking like this when I left. “We have to travel tomorrow morning, so he’s reviewing all the paperwork for our alliance with Alpha Blackthorn.”
I pause, letting the screen go black on my phone. “Victor Blackthorn?”
