Chapter 228
KINGSTON
From the moment I pull up in the driveway, I know something is wrong. My father’s car is parked recklessly, the man values orders so that itself is enough to set off alarms.
Several patrol teams are gathered, surrounding my father, and I can hear him barking out orders even before I take a step out of the car. People part for me to pass, “Is this a takeover?” I jest.
Mom turns towards me, “Hi son.” She smiles, placing a hand on my father’s back.
“What’s going on?”
“It’s Aeliana,” Mom hisses. “She didn’t show up at the house this morning when she was supposed to, and no one has seen her. I think she’s missing.”
I pause, my chest sinking. I knew leaving her behind was a bad idea, and that calm she demonstrated wasn’t like her. I just knew something was wrong. “What do you mean my wife is missing?”
“We can’t find her,” Mom repeats. “I came here for her yesterday, and no one has seen her since yesterday afternoon.”
“What?” I pause. “Did anyone see her leave the house? How does your Luna go missing and no one notices where to?”
“I did, Alpha.” The head of patrol says. “Yesterday evening, Luna Aeliana left the house in a rush, I tried to inquire if she was alright, but she didn’t answer me. But her personal maid says she needed to be alone.”
“We have people looking for her, but-”
“Could she have run away?” Danielle asks.
“No,” I confidently say. If she said she needed to be alone then she went somewhere where not many people go. “I think I know where she is.”
“Are you sure?” Mom nervously asks.
“I’ll bring her back,” I tell her.
“Oh good,” Father nods, “I can’t tell Gamma Hartley you lost his daughter.”
“She’s not a child, Dad.” I huff. “Aeliana knows her way around this pack better than anyone.”
“So then find her,” Mom snaps. “God I hope she’s okay.”
I get back in the car, stopping only to fill my tank. I know exactly where Aeliana would go back when she needed some time, I haven’t been to the waterfall, but I’ve heard of it, Aeliana used to tell me about the place in her letters. The waterfall is about two hours away from the packhouse, but I get there in an hour. I see her the second I pack in the sand. “Aeliana!” I call out to her.
She doesn’t turn, she’s cradling herself in the water, lost to the whole world. She loves this place, she would always escape here whenever she’s upset or hurting. I really thought she had let the kiss go, but she’s displeased.
I call out to her once more before shredding my clothes and getting into the water with only my boxers on. Aeliana doesn’t look at me until I touch her. She screams, trying to fight me off the second my hand touches her shoulder. “Hey, it’s me, it’s me,” I tell her, holding her hands together.
