“She’s not good at retelling stories,” her brother snorts out a laugh.

“She’s doing just fine,” Danielle says. “She has minimal details and snippets to work with, but what she’s trying to tell us is that people thought one of them or both of them killed this drat guy.

“Drayton, but yes, thank you.” Wendy nods, “The case was closed and ruled as suicide, but who stabs themselves in the back and neck as suicide?” She asks, an eyebrow raised. “Makes no sense, but then again, Aeliana Hartley is the sweetest girl around and very honest.”

Alpha Blackthorn hums in approval, “She’s honest indeed.”

“The administrative board wanted nothing to tarnish the reputation of the school and as I said, she wouldn’t hurt anyone, and even though Noah was questioned, being with Aeliana was a solid way out.”

“So no one knows who killed this guy?” I ask, my tone low and shaky almost. I thought it knew everything about Aeliana and I had tabs on her, but nothing of this sort ever reached me. I requested that nothing be reported back unless it is serious and life-threatening, this falls under that category.

“Most people don’t even know he died, but those of us who do were sworn to secrecy, which I broke.” She sighs, glaring at Alpha Blackthorn. “Thanks, daddy.”

“I’ll get you a new car, princess.”

That makes Wendy smile. “Good enough.”

“What do you think happened, Wendy?” I ask, wanting more context to work with for when I ask Marvin to investigate later.

“I went to Aeliana’s room that night, we had a tutoring session, and Noah was there, which was weird because Aeliana was often alone there. Her roommate hardly came to campus.

“She could have been visiting,” Leon says. “That’s not weird, Wendyland.”

“No,” Wendy clicks her tongue. “I think something happened, they might have not killed him because duh, Aeliana was there, but Noah was pretty shaken you know…and you might not know this about her, but Noah is very bubbly, smiley, she’s just-”

“Never quiet.” Rowan finishes for him.

“Yes! But she was so rattled, and my session was cut short.” Shd says. “But as I said, all information is alleged.”

“How can-”

“Leave it alone, Rowan.” Danielle sighs, tapping his hand. “Wendy was nice enough to inform us that doesn’t mean it’s real, right?”

Wendy smiles, nodding. “I like her, she’s fun.”

Her revelation sticks with me.

Murder and Aeliana? That doesn’t seem right, I have faith in her. And this doesn’t sound like anything that she’d do but then-

“Everything okay, Alpha Kingston?” Alpha Blackthorn asks, his tone amused.

“Yes, just thinking.” I clear my throat. “What was the man’s full name?”

“Nope, not doing that.” Wendy laughs. “I’m not going to sink the boat over this, everyone knows Aeliana would never hurt a fly, that’s the whole reason why the case is buried. The suspect had an alibi and the second suspect is too harmless, you see..it might as well be children’s tales, but I knew Drayton. He hooked up with my housemate at a frat party, and that boy would never transfer away like they claimed he did.”

I know Aeliana.

She’d indeed never hurt a fly, but there is no limit to what she won’t do to protect the people she loves. And Noah? I wouldn’t put it past her, the kind of confidence she threatens people with seems to come with experience to back it up. As far as I know, Beta Hector Fren does anything and everything to protect his daughter, this wouldn’t be off the list.

Rowan links me, “Do you think…”

“One of them might have,” I tell him, taking small morsels of my food now.

“I think Noah did it and Aeliana covered for her.”

“She would,” I nod. But do you perhaps think it could be the other way round?”

“No, Aeliana hates violence. You know that, that’s why I’m mad I didn’t get to see the fight with Audrey.”
