“The less drastic methods you are implying. Tell me.”

“You can umm….adopt a baby, or try surrogacy, it works for shifters too, plenty have tried. But adoption works too.”

“No,” I instantly decline. “I don’t want to adopt, I want Rowan’s baby.”

She doesn’t argue, she simply nods, but I can tell she doesn’t exactly agree with me. “Okay, but don’t suggest that to him again. You two just lost a baby, you need time to heal and feel.”

“My decision is made,” I gulp. Rowan will get his pup, with or without me, the goddess has to make up for her cruel act against me.

Luna Aeliana nods, reclining in her seat. “Alright, I’m here if you want to talk.”

“Thank you, you’re a good friend.” I smile. Out of all my friends, there’s no one I’d rather have right now than her, she’s not insensitive to either one of us. “I hope you never meet my fate.”

Her eyes widen, lips parting, but nothing comes out. I reckon I could have picked my words better, but it’s too late, and I meant it in the best way possible. “I don’t know what to say.”

“Don’t look so horrified,” I force a smile, trying to lift the weight of my words. Unlike me, the pack would replace her if she couldn’t carry on the Alpha’s bloodline. “I am being sincere, I wouldn’t wish this hell on my worst enemy. I hope you and Kingston have healthy babies that stay and outgrow you.”

Her face falls, “I—”

“Please don’t act remorseful in front of me, I’ll be getting plenty of those looks, and I don’t need it from you. You’re not like that, Luna Aeliana.”

She nods with a smile. “Thank you.”

“Can I get you anything?”

“Wine?” I snicker. I’ve been wishing I could have a tiny sip for all of two weeks, and now? Well, I guess this is what they call answered prayers huh?

Luna Aeliana smiles, “I’ll arrange for it as soon as your doctors clear you.”

“Come on,” I groan. “I can’t do this sober, what will it do? Harm the baby?”

“Danielle,” her eyes widen.

“Too soon? Sorry.” I bitterly laugh. Maybe if I laugh hard enough it’ll numb the pain and I won’t feel so lost and defective. “I don’t know how to act, it’s my first time grieving something I’ll never have, but surely not the last. I don’t know what to do,”

“It’s okay, you’ll get through this, and I’ll be here, drinking wine with you.”

“Noah will get jealous.”

She shrugs, “She’ll understand, she’s good with sharing.”

Chapter 263

The last week has been a lot, and the house is less alive now. Danielle’s absence has been felt, despite being discharged three days ago, it’s like she’s still not here, but everyone is checking in on her. I’ve found the packhouse devastatingly quiet ever since she returned, like everyone is walking on eggshells around her. Maybe that’s the reason why she doesn’t come down for meals anymore.

Danielle is out with Rowan today, and without her to keep company, I went out with Noah. I also happened to have an early interview at VU today rather than tomorrow as scheduled, but I think it went well. In two days I will know if I got the job or not, and I’m actually excited, if I don’t get picked I will be applying to other universities

now.

My nerves kept me awake all night, so after lunch, Noah and I came to the packhouse for a nap. But for the last few minutes, I’ve been hearing laughing downstairs, making it so hard for me to fall asleep.

“Who the hell is that?” I groan. “The pups are in school and we don’t have any small enough to make that noise.” “Don’t mind that, just slap on a sleeping mask my baby.” Noah yawns, already tired. “You promised to help me with these papers.” She says, pointing to the wrong side of the bed.

I smile, she’s tired lately, she started giving her classes more assessments, and now she has several papers to mark which I said I’d help with. “I’ll be back in a few minutes.”

I need something to muffle the loud noise, or I won’t get any sleep, but when I reach the living room, I pause. The noise is Seraphine and Audrey, but why is she in my house? And why does she have luggage with her?

“Sis!” She squeals before I can ask her why she’s in my house holding an overly large pink suitcase.
