Alpha’s Rue: His Shunned Luna (Athena Enchanted) novel Chapter 264

Chapter 264

“I invited her,” Audrey says.

“With what right?” I snap, “What in the goddess’s good name possessed you to do that?”

Her mouth falls open, staring at me. “She needs a place to stay.”

I’m at a loss for words.

So Seraphine’s house had this alleged accident and her first thought was to invite her to my house? Sera? The very Seraphine who can’t breathe if she’s in a room with me longer than ten minutes? The very Seraphine who went on a hunger strike so Oakley would trade rooms with her, and she didn’t have to sleep across from my room?

Bullshit. “We have never been close enough to share a house,” I almost laugh, staring at my sister. “We were forced to share one for years, but there’s no need for that anymore, no need to play pretend.” I smile, “You’re married, Sister, so in times like these you should seek help from your husband’s parents’ or your parents, not

me.”

Seraphine gasps, “Aeliana.”

“What? I don’t want you living in my house.” I scoff, honestly and truly. I’m not going to dance around what I want when this is my home, a home that I don’t feel obligated to compromise in. “You are welcome to galavant, and visit anytime you’d like, but you can’t stay here, not with your husband.” I gritt through my teeth. “Forget the invite, this isn’t a plus-one lodging.”

“What’s the big deal?” Audrey gasps, “She is your sister, she needs you in this time of need and you’re turning away? Over some childish grudge? Luna Aeliana, I thought you’d be pleased if I invited them to stay for a few days.”

A few days?

God that makes my stomach turn. “No!” I snap. “I’m not fucking pleased, why would I be? You have no right to invite others to stay.” I gritt through my teeth, my words sharp and loud. “Did you happen to go blind and mistake this place for one of your father’s properties?” My head tilts. “Because it’s not, it’s mine,” I force a smile. “I get to decide who stays and leaves, not you.”

Audrey sighs, “Look, Alpha Kingston-”

“You’ll get him kicked out too,” I warn. He has made it clear this house is more mine than his, and I’m going to hold him to it if he has anything to do with this clown show. “Did he authorize this shit?” I ask.

“No, but he has never had a problem with me bringing people here, I-”

“You staying here is already a stretch,” I shake my head. “Any self-respecting shewolf would have left this pack the moment your seat by Kingston expired. You are a guest here Audrey, and somehow you are bringing other guests?” I frown, “What fraction of this house do you own?”

“Look, it’s fine.” She says with an eyeroll, “I’m not even here much, they can take my room.”

“It’s not about space, you idiot!” I scream, “You overstepped!”

Audrey smiles, successfully having gotten a rise out of me. I pause, looking around us. A small crowd has gathered, separated into corners, but even though far from me, I can hear them. “Oh my God, what is wrong with Luna Aeliana?” Someone asks.

“She’s inhumane,” another says. “Just how cruel can she be turning away her sister?”

“I knew the niceness was an act,” someone else says. “Poor Miss Seraphine.”

Poor Seraphine?

Audrey steps closer, “Careful Squeak.” She grins widely. “What will people say? You’re being rude and irrational, for Christ’s sake, people are staring.”

“I’m sorry sister,” Seraphine pouts, her eyes low. “I didn’t know it would upset you if I came to your house for a few days. I mean my house burned down, that’s a tragedy and I just needed a place to stay.”

“So you invited yourself to my house?” I frown. “You two rats just love watching me squirm huh? How long did it take for you to formulate this little ruse?”

“Ruse?” She gasps, starting the waterworks. “Why would I-Audrey invited me, and I didn’t think you would react this way.” She shakes her head, once again painting herself the victim, and like always, everyone sympathises with her. “I mean, it’s just while my house gets fixed again, and I would have stayed with mom and dad, but Brandon feels very uncomfortable staying with his in-laws.”

“Stop!” I warn. “If you want to put on a teary show you need to hop back in the ”

“Sister-in-law!” Someone cheerfully greets. My body twitches with an unfamiliar unease.

I turn towards the door just in time to see him wheeling in two suitcases, à different colour from Seraphine’s. My chest painfully tightens, my ears ringing. “Thank you for letting us stay here,” He says.

Stay?

My lips part, I want to tell him to get his wife and leave but nothing comes out. The words are there, but they get stuck in my throat, suffocating me. He keeps talking, thanking me for what I have no intention of doing. “Alpha,” my wolf echoes. “Jagger,” she says. “Find him.”
