“That’s why,” she sucks in a breath. “I can’t tell you this, it’s…I just can’t go through it again, I can’t stand reliving things only to be called out on wanting attention, I already did that.” She tells me, her voice breaking. “I found the courage to speak up, but nobody ever listens to me..” She gulps, a lone tear rolling down her cheek.

“I’m begging to listen to you,” I tell her, but she shakes her head, wiping the tear away, but it’s replaced by more.

“You say that now, but you’re going to blame me too.” She says, more tears falling but her voice doesn’t shake anymore. “You’re going to hate

“Hey,” I lift her chin, forcing her to look at me. “I’d never hate you.”

“You won’t want me close again,” She sniffs, pushing my hand away. “I know.” She swallows, nodding to herself. “It’s already happened before, I know what losing you felt like and I don’t want a repeat, I can’t handle that, Kingston. I love you.’

I pull her into my arms, “I love you too, Ellie.” I kiss the top of her head. “Which is why I want you to trust me.”

She nods against my chest. “I do, I trust you with my life, but I can’t tell you this, please don’t make me…

“Okay, I won’t push anyone.” I sigh, holding tighter, my hand rubbing her back in slow circles, a futile attempt at consoling her. “Don’t cry, it’s okay. I’ve got you, and while I wish I could be with you every freaking second, I can’t, so we need to get you help, baby.”

“I’m fine,” she shakes her head, sobbing still.

“I know, and I want for you to continue being fine,” I explain, my voice gentle and warm, steady like I’m not being eaten away by guilt still. “But for that to happen, you need to talk to someone like Doctor Holland suggested, please? Do this for me, if you can’t tell me, then tell someone who is trained to help with these kinds of situations.”

She mumbles something into my chest, but I don’t hear it so I pull away. “Not Maddox,” she repeats, swiping a finger under her nose.

“No, we’ll find a therapist,” I tell her. “They’ll keep everything between you two, and you don’t have to worry about me grilling them for information because I just want my wife to be okay, Ellie.”

She swallows, wiping her tears with both hands. “I’ll go with you if you need me to.”

“You don’t have to be with me,” she sniffs. “I can do it myself.”

I force a smile. “Works for me, but I need you to do one more thing for me.”

Her ears perk up, eyes full of hope and sadness. “What’s that?”

“We need to unlock the mind-“I pause, interrupted by a familiar noise making its way into the room.

“Hello, my favourite patient..” Maddox sings.

“I don’t think you’re allowed to say that,” Aeliana smiles.

He shrugs, “You’re everyone’s favourite patient, it’s not every day that you have your Luna get admitted at your hospital.”

“I’d rather she not be admitted ever.” I groan.

Maddox takes my previous seat, staring down at his clipboard for a moment before he looks up. “What happened,

Ellie?”

“I had a panic attack.

He sighs, looking at the clipboard again. “You need to see a psychiatrist.”

“I will,” She nods. “We’ve talked about it.”

“Your doctor handed your case over to me because one of you scared him,” he says, an accusing eyebrow raised at me. This is the one case I’m innocent of causing terror to men who unnerve my mate. “So, I’ll be monitoring you tonight.”
