Chapter 283
“Aww, look at you keeping tabs on me.” He grins, “Don’t worry, it was successful.”
“I don’t care,” I snarl. My concern for pack members is drawn at the lines and extent I can protect them, surgery is between them and the goddess. “I mean to say that you should get some rest, idiot.”
“Rest?” He laughs, “You must not know how it is when I’m on my shift. I’ll be fine, I’m used to this….” he trails off, reaching into his pocket for something. “You see, the front desk is paging me.” He says, rising with a concerning grunt. He waves to us and leaves, pausing at the door. “Oh, I also sent Rowan and Noah home, they were scared to come in here anyway. But im here,” he winks. “I’ll be back to check on you in an hour.”
“Just tell me what to do, you don’t have to keep coming in. I’ll call you when she needs you, there’s an emergency button here, isn’t there?”
He nods, pointing to the wall beside the bed. “Yeah, if she feels nauseous, short of breath, dizzy, or sweating, press that butto, it’ll alert the front desk, and they’ll alert me.”
The moment he’s gone, Aeliana starts pouting at me. “I’m hungry.”
Right.
She hasn’t eaten dinner yet, we were supposed to eat together, but I was late. “I’ll see what the cafeteria has,” I say, rising.
“No,” Aeliana pulls my arm. “Don’t leave me alone, stay.”
“How will you eat?”
“Later,” she shrugs. I proceed towards the open door and she gasps, her voice strained. “King!”
“I’m just closing the door,” I frown, pushing it closed. The fear in her eyes when she saw me grip the door feels unnatural. More so because I would only be gone for five or fewer minutes. “I will ask Maddox when he comes back, or a nurse.”
She opens her arms, scooting to the edge and nodding to the space beside her. I get into the tiny bed with her, my feet dangling off the edge. It’s far from the comfort I’m used to, but having her head on my chest is the most comfortable that I’ve been all day. “Thank you,” she smiles.
“What for?” I frown.
“Nothing,” she sighs, drawing intricate patterns on my clothes. “And Kingston?” I hum in acknowledgement. ” Never wear anything citrus scented, it’s horrible, I hate it now. I don’t want to ever scent it again.”
“Okay, baby,” I say, gently stroking her hair. “I love you.”
“I love you too,” she whispers, “I’m sorry I ruined your surprise.”
“You gave me a frightening one instead,” I nervously chuckle, still rattled by the incident. “But, I forgive you, I can’t stay mad at you.”
“I love you,” she repeats. “You’re the best,” she says, her hand carefully slipping under my shirt. I make nothing of it until she moves lower, “I mean it.” She says, trying to slip her hand into my pants, but I grab it before she
can.
“Stop right there, handsy.” I laugh. Her sex drive has gotten pretty high lately. The longest we go without sex is likely two or three days, and she does make sure to touch me still, she will find time to grind against my thigh,
