Chapter 287
AELIANA
Ever since I left the hospital, Kingston refuses to leave my side, he seems rather sick himself, but he won’t see a doctor. He thinks he’s immune, but he’s definitely caught something, a fever for starters, and he happens to be very sleepy. We’ve spent the entire day in one spot, and he’s been sleeping in my lap all day.
I try not to wake him, he’s comfortable, and so am I, I feel very safe out here in the open, with bright lights, and Kingston beside me. I could easily spend the night here, searching the web for questions that the doctor is likely to ask me tomorrow when I go for my psych evaluation. I’ve been rehearsing every possible question for the past two days, and I have answers, I won’t be caught be offguard. I know Kingston said she wouldn’t tell anyone, but she’ll likely tell him, so I have to choose my words carefully-practised.
I’m on article two hundred and thirty-three on therapy and therapists when a familiar scent flares up my nose, the kind that leaves its mark even after she’s left the room. Noah’s perfume.
My eyes snap towards the door and I close the private tab on my phone, smiling widely at Rowan and Noah. “My honey..” I squeal, as low as possible because Kingston is still half asleep in my lap.
Noah smiles, “Hi.” She says, her voice quiet and her cheeks flushed. She doesn’t run to me like she normally would, she keeps walking behind Rowan, keeping at least two feet behind him.
Rowan frowns, we are in the same spot he left us about three hours ago, except then Kingston was awake and fussing about having to take the remedy I forced him into. “You guys are still here?”
I nod, my gaze focused behind me. “Did you get scolded?”
Noah’s eyes widen, “Me? Oh no, quite the opposite.” She smiles, “I’m just shocked to see you.’
“My Honey, this is my house,” I frown, studying her. “Are you sure you’re okay?”
Before she can answer, something else catches her attention. “These guys are still here?” She asks, her tongue unnecessarily high and very much not her. I put a pin on that as I mirror my gaze somewhere behind me.
I regret tilting my head to see who she’s talking about the moment I lock eyes with them. Seraphine and her husband, hand in hand while she giggles and carries his briefcase in her other hand. I’m irritated. “You girl,’ Noah nods at Seraphine who immediately freezes. “Didn’t you only need to stay here for a few days? What kind of guest are you?” She frowns. “Do you plan on staying still?”
“Noah,” Rowan warns, making her go instantly silent. “Brandon, what happened to your hands?” He asks, his eyes dropping lower to his hands.
His entire arm is wrapped and in a cast, with Seraphine’s name signed on it. “Oh, this. I had a little accident at work,” he chuckles. “Even the old useless equipment gets to acting new sometimes.” He says, “I should stick to the office, ground work isn’t for me,”
“You could have lost your hand baby,” Seraphine whines. “It’s something bad, his whole arm was almost ripped.” She pouts.
“Carry on,” Rowan dismisses them. They walk away instantly, putting me at somewhat ease. They were gone for two days, and I had peace, so long ease. Rowan comes closer to me, shaking Kingston’s leg. “Kingston,” he calls, jerking his leg enough to wake him.
Kingston is awake, he just didn’t want to interact with them. “What?” He groans, his head shifting in my lap.
“Aeliana can’t carry you upstairs.”

That gets him up. She sits up, staring at Rowan with a frown. “Why would she need to?”
“You seem very weak and tired,” Rowan says, grabbing his arms. “Let’s go.”
“Where?” He frowns, still a little out of it. “It’s late.”
“Upstairs,” Rowan laughs.
“I’m with my wife,” King hisses. “Go to yours.” He snaps, his hand massaging my thigh.
Rowan doesn’t flinch at his words, he pulls him up. “I’ll come up soon, let me just catch up with Noah, she’s been teaching my class,” I tell him.
“Okay,” he grunts, letting Rowan pull him up. “Goodnight, Noah.”
Noah smiles, “Goodnight.” She waves
Rowan leads Kingston up the stairs, balancing him on his shoulder. “Wow, that’s interesting.” Noah nervously laughs, “Is he still coming down with something or has that something finally settled?”
“What happened?” I ask, ignoring her question. She tries to play dumb but I don’t let go, “You walked into the room like you were scared, and you haven’t spoken much.”
She smiles, “Kingston was asleep.”
