Seraphine pouts, rubbing her forehead. “I did, I just don’t know what is wrong with him.”

I shake my head, now pacing the room. Brandon got caught, he got overzealous, and greedy. I can’t get the look on Kingston’s face out of my mind, the more I picture it, the smaller I feel. That rage in his eyes was unbelievable, I’ve been by his side for years, and not once have I seen him that angry. It’s only a matter of time before he finds Brandon, between him, and Maddox, they could’ve already hunted him down, but I can’t let them find him before I ensure my safety.

“We need to tell him where Brandon is,” I say.

“Wha-wha-What?” Seraphine stutters, eyes wide with confusion. Her smarts only come in when she has to pick out a new purse, everywhere else, she’s an idiot.

“Brandon is a dead man walking,” I explain. “Telling Kingston is-”

“I’m pregnant,” she gasps, cradling her nonexistent belly.

“So what?” I frown, her pregnancy only mattered while I needed a drink. I had to talk her into wanting this child, and she’s suddenly mom of the year? No. “Babe, if Kingston finds out that we know what happened to Squeak, then he will kill us for not speaking up.”

“It’s not my fault, Drey, you wanted this!” She hisses. “I did this for you! You said he wouldn’t want her if she was touched by someone else, and Brandon-

“Shut up,” I warn. “Quit yelling, every second that you choose to spew nonsense, the closer Kingston gets to that degenerate husband you’re clinging to.”

“I have to warn him,” she gasps, grabbing her phone from her pocket. “What if I just tell him to run away, and then join him?”

I snatch her phone and toss it onto the bed. “There’s no place he can run to, this isn’t theft, or embezzlement, he touched Kingston’s wife!” I remind her, somehow, that’s as good as treason to Kingston, and I hope he gets what’s coming to him for overstepping and trying to make Aeliana his. “I asked him to scare her, that’s what I did.”

“And yet you still licked the gloves he fingered her with,” she scoffs, arms crossed over her chest.

I grab her jaw, trying to crash her. “Shut up.”

“You’re hurting me,” she whines, pushing me away.

I take a step back. “And Kingston is going to kill us if you don’t stop being unreasonable, Seraphine!”

“What do you want me to do?” She chokes out. “Who will look after this child?”

“To hell with your child and his stupid father.”

“Audrey! This is your godchild,”

I shake my head, trying to find calm, trying to find enough tranquillity to get me through this conversation, but she’s pissing me off by worrying about the wrong stuff. “We’ll worry about the baby later, okay? I’ll fix everything, you just have to listen to me.” I softly say,

‘But-

“Listen, Seraphine.” I gently cup her face, forcing her to face me. “Just like old times, okay babe?”

Thankfully, she nods. “Okay.”

“Good,” I smile. “Call Brandon, ask him where he is, tell him you want to meet him with a surprise, and then send Kingston on his trail. It’s that easy.”
