Am I A Good Girl novel Chapter 3

Chapter 3

“Angie… are you actually serious?” Kenneth grabbed my arm, eyes wide with disbelief.

“You’re really giving everything to Catherine? Every single thing?”

This time, the surprise was on my

side.

All these years, they’d always been on Catherine’s side. Whatever Catherine wanted, Catherine got.

And if I dared refuse, they scolded me without mercy.

So why now-when I was finally handing her the keys to my entire life-did they suddenly look at me like I’d lost my mind?

My father was the first to react. His expression softened with relief. “That’s my girl,” he said. “You’ve finally grown up. We didn’t love you in vain.

“You’re finally learning to accept Cathy. This is wonderful, Angie.

“If the two of you can live together in harmony from now on… your mother and I can finally grow old in peace.”

I felt a cold sneer forming in my soul. I thought, “In peace?

“Dad, Mom… you’ve been deceived by Catherine’s perfect mask for so long.

“Do you really believe that she’ll take care of my life, my businesses?”

The dizziness came again. My nose tickled. I touched it, and my fingertips came away red.

“Angie?” My mother frowned. “You’re bleeding. It’s not even dry in here. What’s going on?”

I stared at the crimson on my fingers for a moment. I couldn’t help myself, I looked them in the eye and let the question slip out: “Dad… Mom… If one day I really did die from the illness….. would you regret anything?”

My mother didn’t even flinch. She just gave me a little smile.

“Die? Sweetheart, look at you-you’re glowing. Stop saying such ominous things.”

“Exactly,” my father added, already turning back to Catherine with concern.

“Cathy’s the one who needs to recover properly. Once she’s discharged, we need to make sure she gets the best supplements to recover.”

“I agree!” Lenora piped up brightly. “Mommy’s super healthy. It’s Cathy we should be worried about!”

That was it. The last tiny candle of hope I’d kept thickering inside me snuffed out.

There was nothing left to wait for.

I looked down at Lenora and smiled gently. “Sweetheart… you’ve always wanted Catherine to be your real mommy, haven’t you?”

“I’m agreeing now. From today on, Catherine is your mother. Why don’t you go ahead and call her that?”

The girl’s eyes lit up with a predatory sort of joy. “Really?!”

I smiled faintly.

“You can call her Mommy now, and she’ll cook for you, stay by your side, and do everything with

you.

“Isn’t that what you’ve been wishing for all this time? Aren’t you happy?”

Lenora squealed and literally jumped with joy. “Yes! Mommy, you’re the best mommy in the whole world! Thank you!!”

In the next heartbeat, she dropped my hand and threw herself into Catherine’s arms.

Before I left. I took one last look back at them.

My parents were laughing with Catherine and Lenora. Kenneth stood beside them, smiling.

Not one of them noticed me anymore.

I closed the hospital room door and walked out.

There was only one day left before my death, and I had nowhere to go.

I had spent my entire life rushing, fighting, working-never once truly resting, never playing just for joy.

So I bought a one-way ticket to Seattle. I went to see the ocean at night. I even thought about

hiking, but my body simply couldn’t manage it.

Right before I collapsed, I pulled out my phone and dialed a number I hadn’t touch five years.

Then everything went dark, and I passed out.
