Chapter 104
Chapter 104
Lucky was no pushover.
The moment Soren tried to kick it, Lucky’s low growl exploded into a wild snarl, and it clamped its jaws onto his calf once
more.
Lucky growled. “If you dare touch her today, I’ll bite you to death, you bastard!” Lucky said.

Lucky flashed its sharp, porcelain-white fangs, sinking them deep into Soren’s ankle. Then, with a furious twist of its head, it yanked him off balance, dragging him backward.
Soren missed his kick and got bitten instead. His rage shot through the roof.
“Son of a bitch! How dare you bite me? Guess I didn’t teach you hard enough last time. Let’s see if I don’t finish you off today!” Soren snarled.
Grimacing in pain, Soren suddenly spotted a pot of steaming hot soup on the nearby table.
Without thinking, he grabbed it, about to dump the scalding soup right onto Lucky.
Sierra’s face fell instantly. “Lucky, let go!” she yelled.
Almost everyone, including Sierrà and Ethan, rushed forward together.
Sierra wrapped her arms around Lucky and yanked it back, while Sophie, quick as lightning, sent the pot of hot soup flying from Soren’s grip.
“Ouch!” Soren howled in pain. The piping hot soup was dumped straight onto his chest. The pain hit him like a bolt of lightning, and he frantically ripped off his clothes.
In seconds, his chest was bright red, and blisters were already starting to form.
“Damn it!” Soren shot a furious glare at Sierra and the others, scanning the group before locking his eyes on Sierra.
No way he was picking a fight with the one who kicked the pot. That woman clearly knew how to handle herself. And the guys behind Sierra looked like real trouble.
Out of everyone, Sierra was the only one who looked easy to push around.
“You, what are you staring at? Yeah, you!” Soren jabbed a finger at Sierra, his tone nasty. “Why the hell are you sticking your nose in my family’s business?
“Now I’m burned, and unless you hand over at least a big compensation, don’t even think about walking out that door!”
As soon as he finished, Soren saw the guys behind Sierra step forward, closing ranks around her, staring him down with cold, unfriendly eyes.
Soren got panicked as he thought, ‘Damn, I really messed with the wrong people this time.
Guys like Soren were only tough when beating up women at home, but total cowards out in the real world.
And with Ethan towering over him at six-foot-three, built like a mountain, Soren suddenly felt tiny and totally outmatched.
Soren gulped. “Whatever. Real men don’t mess with women. Not worth my time arguing with you.”
Then Soren shot a vicious glare at Jane and yanked her over. “You’re coming home with me. Once we’re back. I’ll make your both pay!”

He gave Lucky a hard, warning look.
With Jane in his grip, Lucky wouldn’t dare do anything.

‘Once I get home, I’m gonna make sure that mutt’s dead!’ Soren thought. With that, Soren dragged Jane out the door.
Lucky wanted to rush forward, but Soren sent it flying with a hard kick. All Lucky could do was whimper, tail tucked tight between its legs, and follow Soren with a miserable look.
The little girl, shielded by the wildlife rescue team, finally snapped when she saw her mom being dragged away. Eyes blazing with tears, she charged out like a little beast on the loose.
Her tiny fists landed a solid punch on Soren’s leg.
“Bad guy, stop hurting my mom!” she shouted, kicking and punching furiously. If looks could kill, Soren would’ve been dead a hundred times over.
Even the diners watching all this couldn’t help but feel their hearts ache at the scene.
Sierra parted the crowd, her voice cold as ice. “Who gave you permission to walk out of here?”
She strode right up to Soren, bent down, and gently lifted the sobbing little girl into her arms. Her voice was soft as a whisper, “Don’t be afraid.”
The little girl stopped crying, staring at Sierra in a trance.
Even though Sierra was just a stranger, whether it was when she shielded her eyes earlier or now, holding her close, the little girl felt a strange, comforting sense of safety she couldn’t explain.
Tears still clung to her long lashes as her big, dark eyes gazed up at Sierra, her arms wrapped tightly around Sierra’s neck.
“I just want my mom and Lucky. I don’t want my dad,” the little girl choked out, clinging to Sierra.
She hated her dad. She thought, ‘Not only does he hurt Mom, but he even tries to kill Lucky. Other kids all have dads, but honestly, I wish I’d never had one from the start.
Sierra gently soothed the little girl with a reassuring pat on her back and then motioned for Sophie to take her.
Sophie gave Sierra a look, as if to ask if she needed help, but Sierra just said, I’ve got this.”
Once Sophie had the little girl in her arms, Sierra rolled up her sleeves.
Soren stared at Sierra as she strode right up to him, confused as hell. “What… What are you doing?”
Sierra didn’t bother with words. She just let her hand do the talking, smacking him three times across the face.
After the System’s enhancements, Sierra was way tougher than she’d been a few months ago. Now, when she slapped someone, her hand barely even stung.
Soren was totally dazed, his head spinning from the blows.
He instinctively let go of Jane, clutching his burning face in shock. “You dare hit me? Believe it or not, I’ll make sure you rot in jail for this!”
Sierra flashed a smile that could piss anyone off to death. “Go ahead, sue me.”
Not that Soren would actually dare call the cops, but even if he did, Sierra couldn’t care less about getting into legal trouble.
Lucky could see that Sierra and her gang were here to back them up. When it saw Soren about to hit someone again, it

Soren looked at Lucky, whose mouth was still dripping with blood, and instantly felt the pain in his bitten leg flare up all over again.
Soren glared at Jane, his voice full of menace. “You think you can run from me forever, you stupid bitch? You really want our kid to grow up without a dad?
“Your parents don’t give a damn about you. If you leave me, how the hell are you gonna take care of our kid? You’ll be homeless and jobless.”
Soren was convinced Jane would never have the guts to divorce him. No matter how much he beat her, she’d just put up with it.
He thought, ‘Maybe someone’s helping her today, but nobody’s gonna save her for life.’
Sure enough, when Jane heard those words, her eyes went blank with despair, her lips quivered, and it felt like she was about to break apart any second now.
Sierra saw Jane faltering and jumped in, her voice steady. “Maybe your parents never cared, but your daughter loves you more than anything. No job? You can always find another.
“And trust me, your kid doesn’t need a dad to be happy. If you ask me, she’d rather see you break free from that abusive jerk than watch you suffer just to keep the family together.”
The little girl in Ethan’s arms nodded without hesitation.
She was seven now, and she was starting to figure things out for herself.
“Mom, we don’t need Dad, or Grandma, or Grandpa, or anyone else. Let’s just be our own family. I only want you!” she said, her voice firm even though her eyes were still wet with tears.
Jane shuddered all over when she heard that from her daughter.
She stared at her little girl in shock, and for a moment, there was a flicker of life in her usually dead expression.
Lucky barked, springing up with resolve. “I don’t want an owner like him either! I want to stay with you and my little human forever!”
‘This is what a real family looks like, a happy trio!’ Lucky thought, warmth flooding its heart.
Jane’s lips quivered as she murmured, “But… I don’t think I’m strong enough. What if I can’t give her the life she deserves?”
“You really think sticking with him is gonna give your kid a good life?” Sierra snapped, pointing straight at Soren, her eyes cold and sharp. “He’s beating you up right here in public.
“Just imagine what you and your daughter have to put up with at home!
“Lucky risked its life, came all that way back just to protect you. Your daughter fought her own dad just to protect you.
“For Lucky. For your daughter!” Sierra cried out, her voice shaking. “Please, be brave, just this one time.”
