Chapter 109

With that, Sierra turned and walked away without a second glance.

Sharon watched Sierra’s figure disappear, feeling a hollow emptiness inside her, as if something was missing.

She instinctively ran after Sierra, hoping to stop her, but Sierra was already driving away from the Sterling residence.

Jonathan, Shawn, and Natalie also rushed out after her.

The people present exchanged knowing glances and quickly found excuses to leave.

In less than half an hour, the once lively party was deserted, with only tables draped in white linen left behind, topped with barely touched cake and pricey wine.

The streaming staff had already cut the broadcast when things started to get messy, but Sharon’s words about Sierra being her real daughter were still loud and clear to everyone who tuned in.

On Twitter, people were already going wild, arguing and gossiping about the whole drama.

The Sterlings were always trending online. With their drop-dead gorgeous looks, Shawn was a celebrity, and Jonathan, barely thirty, was already the chosen heir to the family.

Plus, with Jimmy’s whole “loving husband” vibe, everyone online joked they wanted to be the Sterling family’s fourth kid in their second life.

No one ever guessed that behind all that happiness, their family ties were messy as hell.

[OMG, how could the Sterlings do this? I used to drag Sierra for always fighting for Natalie’s affection, and now it turns out she’s actually not the adoptive daughter!]

[Why did Shawn always say Natalie was his real sister? Did anyone ever care about how Sierra felt in all this?]

[Sierra is way too composed. If it were me, I’d blow it up so everyone knew, and the Sterlings would never get a moment’s peace. She’s the real heiress. Why should some fake get to take her spot and act like it’s no big deal?]

[People have been calling Natalie fake, always acting all soft and sweet, pretending to be so kind. If she was really that nice, why didn’t she just admit on the show she’s not the real heiress?]

[I never thought Brock would be this kind of person.]

Online, people were dragging Brock, but the Sterlings were getting flamed even harder.

If all the previous drama was just petty stuff, this time, with the live stream, everyone heard the whole mess loud and clear and knew Natalie’s true colors.

Natalie’s motives were basically an open secret. Everyone could see right through her.

No one expected Sierra to show up and demand answers, and in a panic, Sharon blurted out the truth about their relationship.

In less than an hour, the whole real vs. fake heiress drama between Sierra and Natalie blew up on the trending list. Out of the top ten hot topics, eight were all Sterling family tea.

At this point, a bunch of Sierra’s classmates who had spoken up for her before started speaking up again.

[I didn’t know Sierra for long, but she’s always been super low-key. I remember when she first got to college, she was in rough shape, like, super malnourished.

[Good thing she landed some acting gigs and started earning, or I think she’d have had to drop out.)

[Pretty sure Sierra was the lost girl. Her home address was a super remote mountain village, and her first semester tuition was all covered by student loans. I heard her adoptive parents took every bit of scholarship money she ever got.

[When she first arrived at school, she barely ate. Her daily meals were bread and pickled veggies. As the person above said, thank God she started making money later.]

[I’m not jealous of Sierra making bank at all. But seriously, it’s like the whole Sterling family is brainwashed by Natalie or something.

[If Sierra’s the real heiress, why can’t they just admit it out loud? Is Sierra supposed to be some big shame or what?]

[She’s a top student from Northbel University, her professor is basically the top dog in animal protection, she’s got a government job now, and she’s racked up millions of fans in just three years in the entertainment industry.

[There is nothing about Sierra that would make them ashamed of.]

Meanwhile, at the Sterling residence, the Sterlings were too caught up in their own chaos to even care about the internet blowing up.

With things this heated, they knew there wasn’t enough money in the world to make it all go away.

Natalie sat on the couch, her eyes red and swollen from crying. She knew Sharon and her brothers were all shaken up by what happened today, so she knew better than to ask them for help.

So, she could only look to Jimmy. At least Jimmy still had her back.

Jimmy was fuming, storming around the living room with a face like thunder. “That ungrateful brat! What does she want, huh? Is she only happy when the Sterling family’s a total mess?”

Natalie sniffled, putting on her best pitiful act. “I really didn’t think Sierra would blow up Mom’s birthday party over something so trivial, and now you’re all getting dragged into the mess because of me.”

The moment those words left her mouth, Jonathan’s eyes snapped to her, cold and sharp.

“Nat, this is nowhere near a trivial thing,” Jonathan said, his voice icy as he stared her down. “Sierra has quit showbiz, but you and Mom went behind her back and forced her into a production without her say-so.

“Did you ever stop to think about her feelings? Or that what you did might actually be breaking the law?”

Natalie ignored everything else Jonathan said, but the words “breaking the law” hit her like a slap. Her face instantly drained of color.

That month she’d spent locked up last time had left her absolutely terrified.

Natalie’s lips quivered, panic rising in her voice. “So, what are we supposed to do? I really don’t want to end up in jail.

She shot a desperate look at Sharon, who seemed totally spaced out. “Mom, let’s just go apologize to Sierra, okay? Please?”

But Sharon didn’t even react, like she hadn’t heard a thing.

Ever since Sierra walked out, Sharon had barely said a word.

Natalie clenched her jaw, cursing Sharon in her mind, ‘I always know she is unreliable, but I never thought she’d be this

much of a lost cause.

She turned to Shawn, her eyes pleading for help.

Shawn shot her a look and finally said, “Nat, you’re part of showbiz. Even if you didn’t know what kind of guy Brock is, you shouldn’t have talked Mom into signing Sierra’s contract. This is on you to fix.”

Natalie felt like her whole world was crashing down.

‘Me? Fix it? How am I supposed to fix this mess?’ she thought.

Jonathan’s tone was firm. “Shawn’s right. You can’t expect us to keep bailing you out every time you mess up. You need to go explain things to Brock yourself.

“Right now, the only way this will settle down is if he comes out and says it was all just a misunderstanding.”

Natalie’s eyes darted with panic.

Jonathan knew exactly what kind of person Brock was, and now, instead of helping her, he was basically making her walk right into the lion’s den herself.

But she had no choice but to agree.

The Sterling family was her only anchor in high society.

If she lost the Sterlings’ favor, she’d be left with nothing.

“Mom, guys, I swear I’ll fix this. I won’t be the one holding you back,” Natalie mumbled, head down, nervously clutching the hem of her fancy dress, sounding all meek and careful.

But under those trembling lashes, her eyes were cold and vicious, full of hate.
