On the way back, the sky was pitch black. The city lights from the skyscrapers blurred past outside the car window, lighting up the night.

The silence inside the car was almost suffocating.

Ethan kept glancing at Sierra in the rearview mirror.

Sierra sat quietly in the back seat, leaned back a little, eyes closed, just resting.

But the next second, Sierra noticed him watching her.

Ethan’s bright eyes met Sierra’s calm, unfazed gaze.

“Sierra, you…” Ethan hesitated, his voice barely above a whisper, but he couldn’t figure out what to say.

“I’m fine,” Sierra replied calmly. “You guys don’t have to keep staring at me like I’m about to break down. Seriously, I’m fine.”

But nobody believed her.

Timothy started bawling his eyes out, as if he was the one the Sterling family had kicked to the curb.

He snapped, “The Sterling family is just the worst! I always said Natalie was so well-behaved, but turns out she was just scared her whole fake thing would get exposed. And the rest of them? Their brains must be made of mush.”

Timothy’s nonstop tirade echoed through the car.

But to Sierra, Timothy’s rant was music to her ears.

Sharon blurting out the truth about their relationship today totally caught Sierra off guard. She wasn’t thrilled, just surprised.

Sierra had never made her identity public before, because the Sterling family had a million ways to hide the whole real-vs- fake heiress mess. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t get the story straight.

Now that Sharon had spilled the beans herself, it was a load off Sierra’s shoulders.

But what really surprised her was how her friends tiptoed around the topic the whole ride, afraid she’d get upset.

Sierra saw everyone giving her that “yeah, right” look and let out a dramatic sigh.

“Honestly, I never brought up my family stuff because it just never came up in conversation,” Sierra explained.

Timothy glanced at Ethan and confessed, “We’ve actually been dying to know for ages, but Eeef was scared you’d get mad if we asked. He said he’d totally beat me up if I did.”

Ethan shot Timothy a look. “You really want a smack, huh?”

Timothy played it up, acting all goofy. “See? Eeef’s gonna kill me!”

Everyone in the car burst out laughing.

Sierra knew Timothy was just trying to break the tension, so she said, “It’s honestly some crazy drama. Natalie’s parents somehow swapped me and her when we were babies.

I spent my whole childhood in a little village, and I was only brought back this year. But the Sterling family is super tight with Natalie, and when I tried to get some answers, things got ugly. So, I just moved out.”
