Chapter 120

Chapter 120

Leah thought the humpback whale baby was just perfect in every way.

It could take a beating and had a sweet temper, but it was dumb as a rock, clumsy, and cried at the drop of a hat. One could tell it grew up in warm waters, totally not tough at all.

Leah’s ears were killing it, so it started whacking the humpback baby’s head nonstop.

Sierra, sprawled out on the orca leader’s back, caught it all on camera.

Sierra said, “Leah, stop smacking it. It just doesn’t realize how heavy it is. It didn’t do it on purpose.”

Hearing that, Leah stopped hitting the humpback baby.

The humpback baby’s skin was tough as nails, and in just a few days, it had gotten way bigger than Leah. Leah’s fins actually hurt from all the smacking.

Leah swam over to Sierra and said fiercely, “Hmph! Even if it didn’t mean it, it still needs a good smack. Sierra, it is ridiculously dumb. You shouldn’t hang out with it anymore!”

The baby humpback was stunned for a moment.

“I’m really smart!” The humpback baby swam over, defending itself earnestly. “I just got too excited seeing humans and couldn’t control my body.”

Leah said, “That still makes you pretty dumb.”

Just as the humpback baby was about to burst into tears, Sierra jumped in, “Baby, I don’t think you’re dumb at all.”

The humpback baby asked, “R-Really?”

Its eyes lit up right away. It swam over cautiously, just showing its rough back.

Some barnacles had already grown on it, and beneath its tough skin, big patches were starting to rot.

Sierra carefully cleaned the barnacles off the humpback baby while checking its wounds.

Its wounds were just like Leah’s. It looked like its skin got all raw from rubbing against stuff.

Then Sierra asked curiously, “Baby, do you have a name?”

“A name?” the humpback baby echoed.

Sierra nodded. “Just like Leah. Instead of just calling it orca, I use its real name, Leah.”

The orca baby made a smacking sound with his mouth, tasting the salty seawater. “Fish and other creatures in the ocean don’t have names. Only humans give animals names.”

Leah nodded. “Yeah, after a humpback whale mom slapped me and sent me flying into the rocks, some humans rescued me and gave me the name Leah.”

Humans gave animals names out of love.

Leah said, “So I’ve got a name, but the humpback baby doesn’t. Sierra, you should give him one! It is so huge now. Calling it a humpback baby just feels embarrassing.

Sierra wondered, ‘Seriously, how does a sea creature even know embarrassing? Is that even the right way to use that saying?”

But Leah’s words really caught Sierra off guard. Now that she thought about it, it seemed like animals only had names because humans gave them.

“Then let’s call you Finn, okay?” Sierra said.

When Finn heard it finally had a name, it slapped its fins against its sides and wagged its tail like crazy. “That’s great!”

The wildlife rescue team, soaked to the bone, just stared in silence.

‘Man, we’re really not having a good time here,’ the wildlife rescue team thought.

Finn got another solid slap from Leah.

The next second, Leah was launched 30 feet into the air, crashing into the sea with a huge splash. It nearly belly-upped, looking totally KO’d.

Leah wondered, ‘Damn, which bastard just sucker punched me?’

Before Leah could even react, a pissed-off voice shouted, “Leah, are you bullying my kid again? Didn’t I give you enough of a lesson last time?”

With that, a giant 45-foot humpback whale burst out of the water, and its 18-foot fin came crashing down right on Leah’s head.

Leah let out a yelp as it was sent flying 9 feet away. Without thinking, it whipped its tail and made a run for it.

As Leah swam off into the open sea, it shouted back over its shoulder, dragging out the words, “Mom, I’m not coming home for dinner tonight!”

Leah barely made it 300 feet before the humpback whale mom caught up and smacked it clear across the water, sending it flying several feet with a splash.

Sierra watched as Leah sprinted off, only to get chased down and whacked again, then immediately bolted away, rinse and

repeat.

Leah moved with such practiced skill. It was obvious Leah had been smacked around so many times that it had turned it into an art form. Ethan and the others just gawked, completely floored.

Alex looked worried. “Is Leah gonna be okay?”

Finn jumped in, cheerful as ever, “No worries! My mom always holds back. It’s not gonna beat Leah to death or anything.”

As evening fell, Sierra finished filming for the day and headed back to the big boat to rest.

Finn was tagging along with the orca pod, waiting patiently for its mom to come back.

Just then, Leah showed up, with the massive humpback whale mom trailing right behind it.

But judging by the way they were acting, it looked like things had finally calmed down between them.

Leah had a few more scrapes from all the roughhousing. Its body was puffed up, and it was dragging its tail behind it, looking totally wiped out.

Sierra couldn’t help but think, ‘If Leah turned into a human right now, it’d probably look like it’d just lost a bar fight, bruised

all over.

Leah had been chased all over the place, and just as it finally made it back, it saw Sierra about to head back to the boat to

rest. That meant it had barely spent an hour with Sierra today!

The more Leah thought about it, the sadder it got. It opened its mouth wide and burst out bawling, then clung to the yacht like its life depended on it, looking absolutely pathetic.

Sierra, who had been drifting at sea all day and was so hungry that she was seeing stars, could only stare in silence.
