Chapter 124
Chapter 124
Alex’s words left everyone stunned.
Timothy quickly pulled out his phone and searched for Kill Cove. Sure enough, it was actually a thing online.
Timothy blurted out, “Dude, how do you even know about this?”
Alex stayed silent.
Ethan seemed to remember something and said, “Alex’s parents were marine biologists, right? Didn’t they come to Elyria for research before?”
“Yeah,” Alex replied.
Alex’s face was grim, but his voice was steady. “My parents came to Elyria fifteen years ago and spent three years studying dolphin behavior and migration patterns.
“But three years later, they drowned at sea, leaving behind only a notebook.”
Alex was always the one who kept his head down and got things done, rarely speaking up in the team. He hardly ever showed what he was feeling.
But Sierra could still pick up on the anger and sadness in Alex, even though he was doing everything he could to keep it hidden.
Sierra seemed to realize something and asked, “Do you think your parents’ deaths have anything to do with Kill Cove?”
Alex shook his head. “Honestly, I don’t know.”
He went on, “The official report said my parents drowned. By the time my grandpa and I got to Elyria, their bodies had already been cremated.
“At first, I didn’t think much of it, but later, I asked a friend who’s a forensic expert, and he told me the way they handled things over in Elyria wasn’t right, and the autopsy report didn’t add up at all.
“My grandpa reached out to the Elyrian officials, but we never got any answers.”
Alex paused for a moment, then pulled out his phone and flipped through some old, faded photos. “These are my parents’ field notes.
“Over three years, they saw the dolphin population in the area they were studying shrink every single year, from seventy thousand all the way down to less than twenty thousand.”
Sierra asked, “Mind if I check out your phone?”
Alex nodded and passed it to her.
Sierra took the phone and quickly skimmed through the notes.
His parents kept detailed records every couple of weeks, jotting down everything from local humidity and weather to dolphin numbers, breeding, and pregnancy status.
They also observed other species in the area.
Orcas were one of the highlights; there were pictures of orcas slapping manta rays clear out of the water, and even getting smacked around by humpback whales.

Sierra flipped through the photos until she got to the very last one, a screenshot of a map, showing the exact spot they’d been talking about, with “kill” marked right on it.
‘Kill as in slaughter,’ Sierra wondered.
Sierra said, “We have to go there now.”
Ethan turned to Coleson. “How long would it take for the big ship to get to Kill Cove?”
Coleson replied, “About six hours, give or take.”
Ethan glanced at Sierra. “So, what about us?”
Sierra shook her head. “It’s too risky to take our boat over there.”

Everyone turned to her, puzzled. Sierra explained, “We’d be way too obvious. If they notice us coming, they’ll probably get rid of any evidence before we even arrive.
“We still don’t know what really happened to Alex’s parents, so we can’t afford to do anything rash.”
Sierra said firmly, “Right now, what matters most is gathering evidence.”
“Sierra’s got a point,” Sophie said. “My job is to keep you all safe. We should focus on gathering evidence first and not tip them off. If we really can’t handle it here, we’ll deal with it once we’re back home”
‘After all, this isn’t our turf; negotiating here is never easy. It’s just not worth risking our lives for,’ Sophie wondered.
Alex nodded firmly. “I agree.”
He wasn’t about to let hatred mess with his head. Even with the truth about his parents’ deaths almost within reach, he knew he had to keep his cool.
Only by staying alive could he ever hope to avenge them.
Seeing that everyone was on the same page, Coleson said, “There are still Elyrians on board, especially Sebastian. He’s always scheming.
“I’ll use the excuse that the ship needs supplies and repairs to dock at the shore. That’s when you guys can slip away quietly. If anything goes wrong, just shoot me a message.”
Everyone nodded.
That night, Coleson told the international expert teams that the ship was running low on supplies and had hit a reef, so they needed to dock for three days to restock and make repairs.
He managed to convince the captain to bring the ship to the shore.
To avoid raising any unnecessary suspicion among the Elyrians on board, Coleson didn’t dock anywhere near Kill Cove. Instead, he chose a spot less than a few miles away from the town./
Coleson arranged for the expert teams to stay at a hotel.
At three in the morning, with Coleson’s help, Sierra and the others rented a car, packed up their gear, and slipped out of the hotel without a sound, heading straight for Kill Cove.
When they got to the town, the outskirts were totally empty, giving off a lonely, abandoned vibe.
The place sat right by the ocean, and even before they reached the shore, the sound of waves slamming into the rocks. echoed through the air.

Chapter 124
Stars glittered overhead, and a full moon spilled its pale light across the empty, chalky road.
That was when they realized security cameras covered every inch of the town, watching everything.
“This is seriously weird. Something’s definitely wrong here, Sierra thought, feeling uneasy.
And then it got even stranger. Every house was covered in dolphin murals, and every lawn had a dolphin statue standing right in the middle.
Even closer to the shore, there was a whole museum dedicated to dolphins.
Timothy looked disgusted. “Looks like a dolphin paradise, but it’s actually hell for them. These Elyrians are seriously messed up.”
“People are greedy, always wanting more than they need. Dolphins are worth a fortune, so of course, they don’t care if these animals live or die,” Sierra said.
They talked a big game about protecting the environment, but their killing methods just kept getting nastier.
While they were talking, Ethan pulled the car into a low-key parking lot.
Everyone got out and followed the road, only to see that everything near the shore was fenced in tight. Even the cracks between the rocks that could lead to the beach were blocked off with barbed wire.
This place was like a locked-down prison.
There were live wires running along the top of the fence. No way the wildlife rescue team could scale a 9-foot barrier like that. And if they made any noise, the patrols would be on them in seconds.
Timothy scratched his head in frustration. “Shit, these assholes really locked this place down tight. There’s literally nowhere for us to get through.”
Just then, a plump little long-tailed tit landed on Timothy’s head, chirping away as if it owned the place.
Timothy froze mid-sentence, feeling a sudden warmth on his scalp, like a bird was trying to build a nest right on top of him.
He was just about to reach up when Sierra said, “Don’t move.”
Timothy blurted out, “Did something just land on my head? Why does my head feel so warm? Is it gonna take a dump on me or what?”
Sierra said, “It’s a long-tailed tit. Relax. They’re adorable, and they won’t poop on your head.”
The little long-tailed tit was about to drop a bomb, but suddenly paused awkwardly.
‘Please, just hold it in! Don’t you dare poop on his head!’ The little long-tailed tit wondered.
The long-tailed tit looked like it was struggling with constipation, but thankfully, it managed to hold back the urge.
Then, it chirped happily, “Yep, I’m a good bird, not like you humans at all.”
After saying that, it glanced at Sierra and said, “Except for you, pretty lady. You’re different.”
Sierra thought to herself, ‘Figures, another little hypocrite bird
The long-tailed tit was covered in fluffy, snow-white feathers, all puffed up and round.
Sierra asked, “Hey, little guy, do you know how to get inside here?”

“You guys wanna go in?” The long-tailed tit tilted its head, its bright black eyes blinking curiously. “Are you gonna kill those cute little dolphins, too?”
