Chapter 135
Chapter 135
Sierra returned to WonderWild Zoo in the evening.
She had been physically and mentally exhausted these past few days, so she always went to bed early.
Thomas and Henry had forced the wildlife rescue team to take a break, and Sophie had requested time off to go home.
After Vivian and Leonard learned what had happened at sea, they were so worried that they couldn’t eat.
Now that they were back in Amberty and had just happened to get some time off, Sophie decided to go home.

She said, “Sierra, why don’t you come home with me? Vivian has been missing you lately; she keeps saying she wants you to visit and spend some time at our place.”
Sophie shot a glance at Payton, who was giving her that sly look. “Vivian just adopted an Alaskan Malamute on a whim. Why not bring Payton along so it can meet the new friend?”
Payton hid behind Sierra’s feet, its two white “eyebrows” furrowing as its whole face scrunched up into a mess of wrinkles, making it clear that it wanted no part of this.
It wasn’t unwilling; it feared Sophie. Every time Sophie raised an eyebrow or made a move, its legs would turn to jelly.
If it had hands, it would be burying its head in its hands, cowering on the ground like a criminal caught by the cops.
Payton couldn’t help but wonder if it had been a robber in its previous life, and that was why it was so terrified of authority figures like Sophie.
Sophie asked, “Is Payton really that scared of me?”
Sierra had already heard the story behind Payton’s fear of Sophie, and she couldn’t help but chuckle, deliberately teasing it. “I don’t think so. I feel like it actually likes you.”
Payton barked. “Sierra, are your eyes getting worse or something? You know me well. Can’t you tell I’m freaking out here? I seriously don’t like Sophie at all.”
Sierra smirked. “Look at it, barking like crazy just because it’s so happy to see you.”
Sophie had never had a pet and barely interacted with Payton, but since Sierra could talk to animals, she just believed her without a second thought.
“I’m heading home this afternoon, and my husband will come pick me up. Why don’t you come with us?” Sophie said.
Then, as if something had just occurred to her, Sophie lowered her voice. “You know I’m not exactly great at talking to people. Vivian is just too kind; she’ll probably shower me with attention when I get back.
“I’m worried I’ll keep a straight face, and she’ll get the wrong idea. If you come along, you can help smooth things over. She really likes you.”
Sophie thought, ‘She even wishes you could be her daughter-in-law.
Sophie had no idea how Elliot ended up falling for Sierra.
Vivian had asked Elliot about it, but he was as secretive as a lovesick teenager, refusing to spill a single word.
He was just always singing Sierra’s praises at home.
Vivian said that she used to be prejudiced against Sierra. She figured that for a girl to leave a small town so quickly, she had

to be not just smart, but also incredibly determined and shrewd.
She once said that Elliot was clearly smitten.
Back then, Vivian judged just by guesswork. After actually spending time with Sierra, she’d regret and sometimes be annoyed at herself.
She often wanted Sierra to come over, not because of Elliot, but simply because she enjoyed Sierra’s company.
However, Sierra was always swamped, and whenever she had a break, she’d spend all her time at WonderWild Zoo.
Vivian couldn’t even find an excuse to get Sierra to come over.
Still, Sierra refused. “Sophie, maybe next time. You should go home and spend some time with Vivian and Leonard. It wouldn’t really make sense for me to join you guys.”

Seeing Sierra decline, Sophie didn’t press the issue. She just headed back to her room to pack, planning to spend a few days at home.
After lunch, Sierra realized she had nothing else scheduled for the day. Noticing Sophie was loaded up with gifts to take home, she offered to help carry them and see her off at the gate.
These past few days, Sierra had been thinking about opening the zoo to the public.
She’d spent all her money on marine life, so what used to be a decent budget was now almost gone.
Therefore, after she got back, she sat down with Thomas to talk it over again.
The merchandise was almost ready, and Thomas had gone begging for more funds. In the end, he managed to secure a million dollars, and they immediately started construction, eager to get the zoo up as soon as possible.
The roads were still being redone, so the only way for them to get around was by taking the shuttle bus.
Leonard hadn’t arrived yet, so Sierra and Sophie waited at the entrance.
As soon as they walked out the door, however, Sharon stepped out of a luxury car parked in the nearby lot.
She wore a dress, and even though she was already in her fifties, she still carried herself with a graceful, almost fragile elegance. She looked radiant and energetic.
Sierra’s face instantly darkened. She thought, ‘I really need to ask Mr. Carter and Mr. Monroe if we can just ban the Sterlings from buying tickets. Otherwise, it’ll be even easier for them to track me down.
“What are you doing here? You’re not welcome,” Sierra said directly.
Sharon’s smile froze, her eyes flickering with nervousness. “I just wanted to see you.”
“The Sterlings are all the same. You just follow me everywhere,” Sierra shot back, glancing at Ryan, who looked ready to
pounce.
Ryan couldn’t hold back anymore. Brandishing a giant shovel, he stepped between them and shouted, “Sorry, Mrs. Sterling, but Sierra doesn’t want you here. Get out of here, or I’ll have to make you move.”
With that, he pressed the 9-foot shovel right against Sharon’s waist.
Sharon instinctively stepped back, her expression falling further. “Sierra, can I have a quick word with you in private?”
Sierra replied, “I don’t want to hear it.”

Sharon bit her lips so hard that they almost bled. For the first time, she realized that Sierra was truly done with them, but she didn’t know why.
Sharon couldn’t help but think back. When Sierra was first brought home, she was so happy, always wanting to spend time
with her.
However, at some point, she somehow started to dislike Sierra.
She’d spent ages replaying everything in her mind, but no matter how hard she tried, she just couldn’t figure out where it all
went wrong.
She just knew that if she didn’t try to reach out now, she and Sierra might never see each other again for the rest of their lives.
And thinking about that dream, Sharon panicked.
Ever since the birthday party, she kept having the same dream again and again. In the dream, Sierra was always clashing with Natalie, and everyone else in the family just kept getting more and more distant from her.
And then, one day, she dreamed Sierra was in a crowd and got stabbed in the stomach by a man in black, over and over.
Sierra fell to the ground, helpless, her eyes full of desperate hope as she called out to her, “Mom, help me.”
However, in the dream, Sharon didn’t even blink. She just covered Natalie’s eyes, her tone icy and calm. “Nat, don’t be scared. I’m here. This place is disgusting. Let’s go.”
Her son just shrugged and said, “Sierra had it coming. So what if she’s dead?”
The other one scoffed, “It’s a pity that she didn’t die sooner.”
Her husband said coldly, “Once she’s dead, just haul her off to the graveyard. Don’t let her be an eyesore.”
Sharon saw the fire in Sierra’s eyes snuffed out, with every word they threw at her, and by the end, she had no idea what had happened to her.
In the dream, she saw Sierra bleeding out, but instead of helping, she just covered Natalie’s eyes and turned away in disgust.
She thought, ‘Sierra is also my daughter. How can I possibly feel that kind of disgust towards her? It’s just a nightmare. It
can’t be real.
