Chapter 139
Chapter 139
The next day, when Sierra went back to the Lion’s Den, she and her livestream audience saw the two wolves trying to get Milo to lose some weight.
However, Milo seemed born lazy. He’d run a couple of steps, then stop to catch his breath or flop down on the ground, tongue lolling out, panting like he was dying.
The wolves had no choice but to rub up against Milo, trying to coax him to stand up and keep running.
Milo looked totally wiped out. “I really can’t run anymore. I’m so hungry. I think my blood sugar is crashing. Man, I just
want to eat some chicken.”
Then its eyes darted over to Sierra, who was outside the enclosure, streaming with her phone.
Milo’s eyes widened, and it quickly stood up, letting out several howls. “Bring it on. I’m the best kid in the zoo.”
It started pushing itself, stomping around its territory with heavy steps, running ten laps while cheering itself on in its head.
It thought, ‘I bet I’ll drop at least 3 pounds today.
It suggested tracking its weight every day. When it hopped onto the scale, it turned to Sierra with total confidence. “Sierra. relax. After all that hard work yesterday, I’m sure I dropped 3 pounds at least.”
It thought, ‘Need for month. I’ll crush my goal in just five days.
Sierra had a custom-made scale. The animals were checked for health regularly, but stepping on the scale was always tricky.
The little guys were easy enough, but trying to get an elephant like Pip on the scale was a whole other headache.
Thankfully, most of the animals at WonderWild Zoo were cooperative, so Sierra had a custom-made scale to accommodate creatures of all sizes.
The scale started making noise.
It said, “Milo, your weight today is 333 pounds. Yesterday, it was 330 pounds. You’ve put on some weight. The result shows you’re officially overweight. Time to work out.”
Milo just stood there, mouth hanging open, eyes wide in utter disbelief.
The chat exploded with laughter.
[Milo, didn’t you run yesterday? How did you end up gaining more pounds?]
[Milo never holds back. Eat more, train more,]
[Milo is just way too cute.]
[Wait, don’t you even need anesthesia to weigh animals? Milo just hops on the scale himself]
[Look at Milo’s eyes. Does he seriously look that clever?]
[The goose the zookeeper used to train Milo with keeps coming back every day, and now Milo can’t even bring itself to eat it. It just wants to be buddies with the goose.]
[Hey, Sierra, I’m the director of Ravos Wildlife Park. Where did you get that scale? We want one for our animals, too.]
[Sir, you gotta make sure your animals are as cooperative as Sierra’s before you get one.]

Sierra glanced at the chat, then looked over at Milo, who looked so crushed that it was having a full-on existential crisis.

Milo whimpered, its voice thick with tears. “Sierra, is the scale busted or something? I ran forever yesterday and didn’t even have my usual after-dinner treats or fruit. Why did I still gain weight?”
It used to be a chubby little guy at 220 pounds, but now it had ballooned up to a whopping 333 pounds.
Milo threw its head back and wailed at the sky.
Sierra just stood there, at a loss for words. She poked Milo’s head, exasperated. “Come on, it’s just a few pounds. If you work harder later, you’ll soon lose some real weight.”
After saying that, she let out a deep sigh. She hadn’t expected Milo to end up heavier, either.
She thought, ‘If I had strictly controlled my diet and still gained several pounds, it would feel worse than death.
Sierra gave Milo a gentle pat, her voice soft and encouraging. “It’s alright, sweetheart. We’ve still got a whole month. If it doesn’t work, we’ll make it two or three months.”
Milo felt Sierra stroking it. Normally, that would be super comforting, but after hearing her say that, it just couldn’t hold back its tears anymore.
It thought, ‘Damn it, why do animals have to go on diets, too?’.

While Sierra was on break for a month, she kept encouraging Milo to stick to his weight loss routine every single day.
Thankfully, their efforts paid off. Milo was still lazy as ever, but after a month of struggling, he managed to lose 10 pounds.
Milo scratched its head, trying to do the math. It thought, ‘If I keep at it, I’ll finally be done with this diet in just ten more days. Maybe the last few pounds will just drop off after one good poop.’
Milo lifted its head high, looking all proud, clearly waiting for Sierra to praise it.
Sure enough, Sierra was really happy about Milo’s weight loss; she looked just like a mom watching her silly kid finally get it right.
“Milo, you did an amazing job,” Sierra said.
Milo stood tall, chest puffed out, looking proud and just about to say something when Sierra jumped in. “Next month, let’s keep pushing and drop another 11 pounds. Next year, we’re aiming to get you below 220 pounds.”
“Why do I still have to go on a diet?” Milo blurted out, eyes wide in disbelief.
Sierra looked even more baffled. “Why not? Did you even check out that mirror I bought for you? You can’t even fit inside
the frame.
“Other snow leopards are just a bit over 110 pounds, but you’re literally double that. Of course, being too skinny isn’t good either, so how about we just start with a light 110-pound drop?”
Then Sierra turned to the livestream. “By the way, once WonderWild Zoo opens up, you can feed the animals, but just skip
Milo. He’s on a diet.”
Milo felt that the world was collapsing.
The livestream showed Milo sprawled on the ground, looking defeated.
No matter what, Milo was doomed to this diet; there was no escape.

Sierra sent out the weight loss plan and meal schedule by email. With so many animals at WonderWild Zoo, she just didn’t have the time or energy to babysit Milo all day.
Thomas had scheduled a hospital check-up for her, and Ethan and the others had already gone, but Sierra kept putting it of since she was busy looking after Milo.
Thomas couldn’t take it anymore and came to see Sierra in person. “Sierra, you have to go to the hospital this week.
Elyria denied everything. The Global Environmental Association sent experts, and if their tests matched, they’d sue the local government.
Sierra had spent so much time soaking in seawater, and Thomas had always been worried that her body might undergo irreversible changes like the fish.
Thomas’s voice was firm, making it clear there was no room for negotiation.
Knowing Sierra would probably try to dodge it by claiming she was too busy, he had Sophie drag her off to the hospital for her check-up the very next day.
The moment Sierra saw Sophie and Thomas standing at the door, she instantly felt like a naughty kid.
Thomas said, “Sierra, you must get your checkup done today, no matter what. And make sure you do the rest on time, okay?”
Sierra looked a little timid. “I never said I wouldn’t go.”
Thomas just let out a couple of dry laughs and, without a hint of mercy, shoved Sierra into the car. He didn’t believe a single word she said.
