Chapter 140
After finishing all her tests, Sierra sat in the corridor, waiting for Sophie to come back with the results.
Sierra wore a mask and an all-black down jacket, with just her forehead and sparkling eyes showing.

Many people in the hospital dressed similarly, but Sierra’s exceptional aura caught the attention of passersby, who glanced at her a few extra times.
Sierra didn’t mind the looks; she just played on her phone every now and then.
Sophie shot her a text, telling her to hang tight because the results wouldn’t be ready for another ten minutes.
Sierra thought it over and figured she might as well walk over and find Sophie herself.
Meanwhile, Jonathan and Sharon were just coming out of the psychiatry department.
Sharon had been hit hard by everything that happened with Sierra. She was out of sorts, couldn’t sleep, and had even thrown up recently from stress.
As soon as they stepped out, Sharon looked up and saw Sierra sitting on a chair. Her eyes lit up. “Is that Sierra?”
Jonathan glanced over.
The corridor was filled with patients, some rushing by, others boredly sitting against the wall scrolling their phones.
Sierra was just sitting there, quietly messaging someone on her phone.
Then they saw that Sierra stood up, ready to leave.
Jonathan and Sharon instinctively started after her. They also noticed a slender, frail-looking middle-aged couple hurrying
after Sierra.
They shuffled quickly through the crowd, calling out Sierra’s name at the top of their lungs.
Sierra heard it, too. The voice was familiar yet strange, prompting her to instinctively turn her head.
Then, a man suddenly stepped right in front of her. His eyes went wide in shock, and he barked, “Well, look who it is.”
Once David realized it was Sierra, he was seething. “We’ve been searching for you for ages, and now we just happen to bump into you here at the hospital.”
Sierra frowned, feeling a little dazed.
The middle-aged couple before her was frail and pale. The man had sparse hair, sunken eyes, and unkempt stubble. He wore a dark blue work uniform, splattered with grease, and his words carried a foul stench.
The woman beside him had short hair tied at the back, hollow cheeks, a harsh expression, and wore flimsy clothes. She glared viciously at Sierra.
Sierra stared at the two of them, and memories started flooding back.
“David? Elouise?” she said, almost in disbelief.
“Oh, so you’ve got some nerve now, huh? We’re your parents. How dare you talk to us like that?” David barked angrily. He reached out to grab Sierra’s arm.
However, after years apart, Sierra was even stronger than in school. She lifted her hand, and David stepped back and fell to

the ground.
People immediately started gathering, eager to see the drama unfold.
Seeing this, Elouise rolled her eyes and dramatically collapsed to the ground, slapping her thighs and crying loudly, “Someone help us.”
Elouise kept wailing, but her words were clear as day. “She’s my daughter. We busted our backs to get her through college. but as soon as she graduated, she disappeared without a trace.
“Just recently, I heard from a girl back in our town that she’s living it up in the city, traveling all over the country, and even jetting off overseas all the time.”
Elouise glanced at Sierra’s indifferent eyes, then slapped her own chest hard, like she was in unbearable pain.
She continued, “My husband and I work hard every day. Recently, he was diagnosed with cancer, and we had to sell our property to bring him to the city for treatment. And finally, we happened to meet her here.
“Can you even believe that? When she saw us, she didn’t greet us. She just threw some harsh words at us. What an ungrateful brat.”
Sierra frowned, looking at their antics.
Seeing Sierra stay silent, Elouise assumed she was scared stiff.
Maybe David really was sick, because Elouise was holding a thick stack of medical reports.
She waved the reports for everyone to see. “My husband is in the late stage of lung cancer. My daughter has probably made hundreds of millions in these years, yet she’s never given us any money. We’ve suffered so much.”
Sierra couldn’t hold back a laugh, snickering at Elouise’s dramatic act.
She reached out and said, “Let me take a look.”
Elouise was stunned for a moment, thinking Sierra was finally about to fork over some money, so she hurriedly handed her the reports.
She kept chattering, “Just look at your dad. He’s so sick. What could possibly be more important than his life?”
Sierra quickly skimmed through the reports, finally pausing on the diagnosis. Suddenly, a bright smile lit up her face.
She handed the papers back. “How much longer did the doctor say he could live?”
Elouise’s eyes flickered, and she replied, “The doctor said it’s late-stage cancer. He might only have three months left, but it’s not hopeless.
“If we had enough money, we could get surgery overseas. Sierra, you’ve got so much money. You wouldn’t just let your dad die, right?”
Elouise knew Sierra never liked talking to them. Back in school, she always gave her scholarship money to the family, just so they wouldn’t have to stir up trouble at school.
Now, with all these people watching, and after hearing from Natalie that Sierra was some kind of public figure, Elouise figured if she could brand Sierra as an ungrateful daughter, Sierra would lose her job.
Elouise was sure of herself and thrilled. “You’ve got so much money. Just give us 15 million dollars to treat him.”
“15 million dollars? Come on, that’s not enough,” Sierra scoffed after a pause. “His illness is so serious. He’ll need at least 1.5 ~ billion dollars, right?”

Elouise was totally floored. She’d always figured Sierra only made tens of millions of dollars in showbiz, but it seemed hat she actually made billions of dollars.
She said, “Yeah, 1.5 billion dollars would be even better. That way, your father could live much longer.”
Sierra nodded, then pulled out the 50 cents she used for breakfast this morning, and handed it to Elouise.
Elouise just stared at the money, not taking it.
Sierra clicked her tongue and stuffed the cash right into Elouise’s pocket. “There’s a shop selling lottery about 300 feet to the left of the hospital. Maybe you’ll get what you want there. Good luck.”
Elouise saw the teasing look in Sierra’s eyes and finally realized she was being fooled. Her mouth couldn’t help but twitch.
David exploded with rage, scrambling up from the ground with a twisted look on his face. “Sierra, how dare you? I’m gonna beat you up.”
Sierra grabbed David’s scrawny arm and gave him a hard slap across the face.
Then she shoved him hard, and David nearly landed on his butt again.
David stared at her in utter shock. “How could you do this?”
Sierra’s face turned stern. “David, I wasn’t meant to be someone who just takes a beating. I’m not going to curl up three-year-old and let you hit me anymore.”

As a child, she had no way to resist, so she could only endure the beatings. Yet even then, she had never believed she deserved them.
Sharon, standing in the crowd, felt a chill running down her spine when she heard Sierra say that. She came over, her eyes fixed on Sierra’s face, then on the couple’s twisted expressions. She felt stunned.
She suddenly realized that the last layer of secrecy between her and Sierra was about to be brutally uncovered.
Sharon wanted to confront the couple, who matched the files perfectly.
She’d always worried that Natalie would get hurt by all this, so when Sierra wanted to make them pay in court, she had said
Natalie said her parents had done wrong, but they felt guilty toward Sierra and had always treated her well. She said that Sierra had misbehaved at school and hung out with the wrong crowd in the city.
And Sharon never doubted it for a second.
A shiver ran through her entire body. She realized she hadn’t carefully thought through the inconsistencies.
She thought, ‘If Sierra was really such a mess, how could she have gotten into Northbel University and earned her teachers’ respect? If she were really a bad person, how could she have survived the ruthless entertainment industry?
‘And if things were really so great with her adoptive parents, why would she go years without ever reaching out to them? She could even become as close as family with someone like Vivian, who used to be a total stranger’
Sharon’s rosy lips gradually turned pale. She realized that she had been utterly deceived.
“David, you bastard,” Sharon shouted, her eyes burning red like a wild beast unleashed as she demanded, “Is what Sierra said
true? Tell me.”
Sharon stalked toward David and Elouise, her voice trembling with fury. “Did you really lay a hand on her? What else did you do?”
Chapter 140
David and Elouise knew exactly who Sharon was. As soon as they saw her approach, a flash of panic crossed their faces.
People around saw her, too, and they realized that the girl wearing a mask was Sierra, someone who had been trending online recently.
More and more people gathered in the hospital corridor, all curious onlookers.
However, Sharon could no longer hold back. It felt as if a bucket of icy water had been poured over her, chilling her to the bone.
“Why won’t you say anything? Say something.” Sharon demanded, her voice shaking with rage.
She frantically grabbed Elouise by her shoulders. “Natalie told me you treated her so well and that you gave her everything. She said you were a good mom, so I believed it.”
She thought, ‘Why was it all a lie?”
