Chapter 148

50

Thomas was just grumbling as he lay down on his bed, hoping to finally catch a break. But as soon as he heard Sierra was missing, his face went ghostly pale. In less than three minutes, he waddled over, his belly swaying with every step.

“What happened? Didn’t Sierra come back early?” Thomas asked, worry tightening his voice.

Ethan had already called the cops. He looked up, his expression tired and defeated. Everything happened so suddenly that they could barely even start figuring things out.

“Mr. Monroe, try not to panic. We’ve already called the police, and Alex and Timothy are checking the park’s security footage,” Ethan said, trying to sound reassuring.

“How can I not panic?” Thomas paced back and forth in the living room like a headless chicken. “How could she just get kidnapped out of nowhere? Sierra’s so small and helpless, she’s just a girl! What if someone hurts her?”

Ethan was at a loss for words. It probably wasn’t the best time to think about it, but honestly, with Sierra’s skills, she could wipe the floor with everyone here.

Sophie shot them both a look and said, “There’s some blood on the floor. Sierra’s hurt, but it’s nothing serious. She knows how to handle herself. Since this is a kidnapping, they’re not likely to hurt her right away.”

Just then, Timothy and Alex came in with the police.

Everyone rushed to check the security cameras and saw that David had blended in with the film crew and had been staking out right outside Sierra’s room.

Thomas felt like his brain short-circuited when he saw that. He’d gotten careless, thinking the zoo wasn’t open yet, so nobody could get in. That’s why he’d sent all the security and staff off for the photo shoot.

No one could’ve imagined Sierra would just disappear in broad daylight, right here in the park. If something happened to Sierra, he’d be totally responsible.

By the time dawn broke, Sierra had already been awake since the middle of the night. She’d been stuck in the same position for hours on end, her body stiff and tingling all over. Her mind was all over the place, restless and frustrated.

The van bumped along a winding country lane, finally stopping in front of a rundown house in a tiny village. This was deep in the sticks, a truly isolated rural spot.

“What is this place?” Sierra demanded, her voice tense and uneasy as it bounced around the cramped van. But nobody bothered to answer her. She might as well have been talking to the walls,

The driver stepped out, puffing on his cigarette without a word, while David hovered nearby, his wrinkled face practically begging for approval.

“Emory, just look at her, pretty face, strong body. She could crank out a whole brood of children, no problem. So, about that price…” David said, laying it on thick.

“We stick to what we agreed, Emory shot back, sounding fed up

He swung open the front door, grabbed a big leather bag, counted out a fat stack of cash, and handed it to David. “Since this girl’s in such good shape, I’ll throw in another ten grand. That’s 50 grand total. Take the cash, deal’s done.”

“Yes.” David nodded eagerly, almost falling over himself to agree. He was grinning so hard his face could split as he stared at the pile of cash.

Chapter 148

If he’d known Sierra could fetch this kind of cash, he would’ve sold her off long ago. Why bother waiting till now?

Sierra felt David staring at her, and she had a good idea of what was happening.

Her heart didn’t even flinch. David had been selling her off since she was little. This was nothing new.

David pocketed the cash and left right away. Emory roughly yanked Sierra out of the van.

Sierra struggled, her voice sharp. “Do you know what’ll happen to you for selling me?”

Emory thought she was trying to threaten him and scowled. “Consequences? Bullshit. Once I sell you off, nobody’s ever gonna find you. There’s nothing but mountain roads, no cars, no people. The cops won’t find you, and you’re not getting

out.”

With that, Emory fixed his gaze on Sierra. She’d been dragged here unconscious, and just by looking at her, he could tell she didn’t look easy to handle.

Emory warned her, “You’d better behave, or I’ll kill you myself.” With that, Emory forcibly dragged Sierra into the house.

The place was nothing to write home about. Emory clamped down on Sierra’s arm and roughly hauled her toward the backyard.

Soon, they reached a clearing. Then he opened up a hidden cellar, so inconspicuous you’d never notice it was there.

“Get in there,” Emory ordered. He let Sierra go, gesturing for her to get in herself.

Sierra was still tied up, no chance to escape. She didn’t even hesitate. There was no point. Carefully, she climbed down into the cellar.

As soon as she was inside, the cellar door slammed shut with a heavy thud. The cellar was dimly lit, shadows clinging to the walls. Sierra moved forward, following the weak light deeper inside.

When she reached the far end, Sierra stopped dead in her tracks, her eyes wide with shock and anger at the scene waiting for

her.
