On the phone, Dalton said David and Elouise knew they were wanted, so they’d been hiding out for the past few days.

But what they didn’t expect was that Sierra’s disappearance suddenly caused a huge stir online, and the whole thing was blowing up everywhere.

Just a quick search and David and Elouise’s photos pop up all over the internet, so even though David had been hiding out. in a remote town, someone still recognized him and reported him.

Dalton said, “David was hiding out in a rundown motel where they didn’t need to show any ID. When he snuck out to grab breakfast, a local spotted him and called the cops.

“After checking, the police confirmed it was David and Elouise, and now they’ve been handed over to the Amberty police station. Ms. Sterling, you’ll need to come back and give a statement.”

“Okay,” Sierra replied.

David had taken Sierra’s phone, and she hadn’t even gotten to hold a phone these past few days, so she had no clue how worried her fans and everyone online were about her.

Thinking about what Dalton just said, Sierra borrowed Elliot’s phone, logged into her Twitter and video app accounts, and posted an update to let everyone know she was safe.

A day later, the wildlife rescue team showed up at the Amberty police station, looking worn out after the trip.

Elliot had a mountain of work waiting for him, and as soon as they got to Amberty, his phone blew up with messages from his assistant.

Once he saw there was nothing else for him to do after dropping Sierra off, Elliot said, “Sierra, I’ve got work to catch up on, so I’ll get going.”

Sierra nodded.

Thanks to Elliot’s video, those villagers were finally brought to justice.

Elliot had really saved her this time.

“Elliot, thanks so much for everything. After the New Year, let me treat you to dinner,” Sierra said.

“No need to be so formal,” Elliot replied. His face stayed neutral, but inside he was thrilled.

Honestly, he couldn’t wait for Sierra to owe him even more favors.

Elliot watched Sierra walk into the police station, and then turned to leave.

But when he turned around, he realized Sophie hadn’t gone inside. She was just standing there, staring straight at him.

‘What the…?’ Elliot thought, totally baffled.

Before he could even process what was happening, eight tall men with a commanding presence stepped out of cars from all directions.

They were obviously military guys.

And these military guys were coming right at him.

Elliot swallowed hard, his mind racing.

As a son, he was the picture of filial piety.

As a boss, he ran a four-days-on, three-days-off schedule, ten to six, and was always the first out the door when the workday ended.

As a citizen, he never missed a single tax payment.

He thought, ‘I’m such a law-abiding citizen. Why would they arrest me?’

Elliot looked to Sophie for help, his eyes pleading.

“Come with me,” Sophie said.

They walked over to a shady spot, and one of the military guys handed Elliot a document.

Elliot’s gaze sharpened as he read the contents carefully, his face turning more serious than ever.

Elliot didn’t even hesitate. He just went ahead and signed his name, his expression more serious than ever.

At the police station, in the interrogation room, Sierra was allowed in as an exception. David was still insisting he was innocent, even with the video evidence and the Hoffman brothers’ testimony.

He and Elouise seemed to have rehearsed their story, both sticking to their “innocent” act.

Even though the police knew the truth, they still had to follow the legal process, so they’d been dragging things out with David and Elouise for days.

But the moment Sierra walked into the interrogation room, David’s face changed, shock flashing in his eyes.

The officer on the scene saw this and said, “David, we’ve got all the evidence-witnesses, video, and we even found 50 grand at your motel. Now the victim is here. What else do you have to say for yourself?”

David stared at Sierra, who was standing there completely unharmed. Sweat broke out on his forehead as his sharp, piercing eyes locked onto her, unblinking.

‘So she wasn’t sold off!’ David thought, his mind spinning in disbelief.

His gaze was filled with confusion, shock, and fury.

David suddenly hunched over, trying to stand up, but the interrogation barrier blocked his way, and his hands and feet were shackled with heavy iron chains. He could only manage to stand in a pathetic, awkward stance.

But the moment he tried to stand up, two staff members shoved him right back down.

He shouted, “Sierra, how come you get all the luck?

“Why won’t you just die? Why don’t you just drop dead?

“Why didn’t I just beat you to death when you were smiling at me? People like you deserve to rot in hell!

“Nat is the real heiress. You’re not even good enough to serve her. You’ll spend your whole life just like me, living like a rat in the gutter, never seeing the sun!”

‘Sierra’s still alive. What the hell am I supposed to do about my daughter now?’ David thought, panic and despair crashing over him.

The interrogation room instantly erupted into chaos.

Chapter 162

Sierra shot David a mocking look and said, “Serves you right.”

David’s mind just went completely blank, like something exploded in his head.

He collapsed back onto the chair, staring in a daze as Sierra walked out.

Less than half an hour after seeing Sierra, David and Elouise confessed to everything they’d done, but they never implicated Natalic.

Sierra had seen this coming.

Natalie was their precious daughter. Over twenty years ago, they risked everything, even committing a crime, to swap Sierra’s and Natalie’s identities. Now that they were behind bars, there was no way they’d ever betray Natalie.

Since David and Elouise were high-profile criminals, the police transferred them to the court without delay.

David was already battling late-stage cancer. After coming clean about everything, he ended up coughing up blood that same day and was rushed to the hospital for emergency care.

Dalton kept Sierra updated on the case, sending her a message every time there was a new development.

Seven days later, David was discharged from the hospital after narrowly surviving. And that was the same day their sentence came down.

They’d be sentenced to life in prison.

“They really lucked out. Just that? That’s way too easy for them!” The wildlife rescue team all spoke up for Sierra, and even Dalton was asking if they should push for a retrial.

But Sierra just shook her head. “This is a good outcome. If they got the death penalty, it would actually let Elouise off easy.”

David’s already in the final stages of cancer. At most, he got three months to live, and those months were going to be pure hell for him.

As for Elouise, even if her sentence got reduced, she wouldn’t get out for at least ten or twenty years. By then, she’d be in her seventies or eighties, and that was when her real suffering began.

As for Natalie, Dalton said she ran off and they still hadn’t found her. But no matter what, she was being dragged through the mud online. There was no way she’d ever have a peaceful life again.

For someone who’d always lived at the top, that was even worse than death.

Thinking about all this, Sierra finally felt completely at ease.

The grand opening of WonderWild Zoo was just around the corner, and today was the big day. Tickets were finally going on sale to the public.

Everyone on the WonderWild Zoo staff was freaking out.

After all, ticket sales meant everything for the zoo. With money coming in, the animals could finally enjoy the kind of life they deserved.

So when Sierra was making her rounds, she saw a bunch of zoo staff earnestly lecturing the little animals they were taking

care of.

They said, “Hey, little guy, when the visitors come, you gotta spread your tail, alright? Wait, no, don’t just moon the guests!”

“Angel, sweetie, when people come to the panda house, you can’t go around smacking the other pandas anymore, okay?

Sierra made her rounds and suddenly realized that all those early mornings and late nights spent trying to get the animals used to people had been a total waste. Her training hadn’t made any difference at all.

Thomas must have realized it, too, because lately he’d been running all over town visiting temples and churches, praying to every deity he could think of.

At four in the afternoon, Thomas came back from the church.

The tech team had just put up tickets on all the major online platforms.

Thomas said, “Come on, it’s our grand opening. At the very least, we should sell 10,000 tickets today. If we can’t even do that, how are we supposed to keep the zoo running?”

Suddenly, Thomas stared at the ‘Sold Out’ sign on the screen, totally stunned.

“Hey, tech team, what’s going on? Why does it say there are no tickets left? Did the site crash or something?” Thomas blurted

out.

As soon as he said that, the wildlife rescue team all crowded around.

The tech guy was sweating bullets, messing with the computer for a while. Finally, he just sat there, staring at the screen in

silence.

“Is something wrong?” Thomas asked, his voice full of worry.

The tech guy swallowed hard, spaced out for a long moment, and then finally stammered, “The system’s fine. It’s just… The tickets got snapped up. They’re all gone!”

“The system’s fine, and the tickets got snapped up?” Thomas muttered, trying to process what that meant.

After a long pause, it finally hit Thomas, and he almost squawked, “Sold out?”

‘Wait, how many tickets did we actually put on sale?’ Thomas thought, his mind going blank.

‘200 thousand? 300 thousand? Or was it 400 thousand?’ He tried to remember, but his brain just wasn’t working.

Thomas felt like his brain had just short-circuited. He took a deep breath, tears welling up in his eyes. “Are you serious? Every single ticket is sold out?”

The tech guy nodded, confirming, “Yeah, they’re all gone. If you don’t believe me, just check online. Tons of people are complaining they couldn’t get a ticket.”

Everyone grabbed their phones and jumped on Twitter.

Sure enough, the official WonderWild Zoo’s and Sierra’s accounts were packed with frustrated fans complaining about missing out on tickets.

Netizens: [Didn’t they say there were 400 thousand tickets? It’s only been five minutes. Where’d they all go?]

[Seriously, zoo tickets are harder to get than concert tickets! Are there any scalpers out there? I’ll pay whatever it takes for one.]

[Forget it. Even the scalpers couldn’t score any.]

[Forget it, I’m already thinking about applying for a permanent job at WonderWild Zoo.]

As Sierra watched WonderWild Zoo shoot up the trending charts, it finally sank in for her.
