Cheetahs were insanely fast, but unlike leopards or cougars, they were not much good in a fight.
The cheetah was running so fast that its body was just a blur.
Hot on its heels were the spotted hyenas, famously known as the chief proctologists of the grasslands.
Spotted hyenas were pack animals, and one of the rare creatures that actually knew how to pull off real teamwork.
Sierra watched as three of the spotted hyenas charged forward, while a few more moved in to cut off the cheetah from both sides.
This was something people’d see all the time out here. On the grasslands, everything was part of the circle of life.
So she wouldn’t interfere unless she really had to.
But before Sierra could even get a word out, Sarah bolted from her arms like a shot, leapt out the car window, and landed smoothly on the ground.
“Bonnie!” Sarah yelled, racing straight for the cheetah that was being hunted down.
Sierra put two and two together right away. “Sarah knows that cheetah! Let’s go!”
But it was already too late. The moment Sierra finished speaking, the spotted hyenas had already caught up to Bonnie, who was running for its life with its cub in tow.
Bonnie tumbled across the grass, and the cub went flying from its mouth.
The little cheetah shook its head, feeling like the world was spinning. Stars danced in its eyes, and it could barely keep its four paws under it.
By then, the spotted hyenas had already surrounded them.
Bonnie didn’t even notice Sarah coming. It scrambled to its feet, found the cub, and clamped it firmly in its jaws, its amber eyes narrowed in focus.
In the next instant, just as the spotted hyenas were about to strike, Bonnie sprang high into the air, its muscular limbs propelling it upward. Its claws sank deep into the hide of a female spotted hyena.
With a loud crash, Bonnie sent the hyena flying.
Seizing the opening, Bonnie grabbed the cub and, with a couple of quick sprints and leaps, shot straight up into a tree.
However, climbing just wasn’t a cheetah’s thing, so Bonnie barely made it up before gravity took over and it started sliding right back down.
Bonnie clawed at the bark, fighting to haul itself up.
It had to survive.
The spotted hyena alpha female sneered as it watched Bonnie struggle. “Kill them!”
At its command, the whole pack ringed the tree, snarling and snapping their jaws at Bonnie.
The wildlife rescue team’s hearts clenched tight as they watched, not daring to blink.
Just as the spotted hyenas were about to tear into Bonnie, Sarah shot out from the grass and pounced on them, slamming

them to the ground.
Bonnie saw that and, not caring about its injured paws, leapt straight onto the tree trunk.

Sarah was a full-grown female cheetah. It might not be as tough as a cougar or a leopard, but it could totally hold its own against a pack of spotted hyenas.
Bonnie was only getting outmatched because it had its tiny cub clamped in its jaws, slowing it down.
Sarah fought like a demon, going straight for the hyenas’ necks and bellies, while the hyenas kept trying to sink their teeth into its rear end.
For a while, it was a back-and-forth brawl, neither side giving an inch.
By the time Sierra showed up, both sides had pulled back, eyeing each other like predators ready to pounce. The tension was so thick, but neither side dared to make a move.
It wasn’t until Sierra hopped out of the car and stood less than 30 feet from the standoff that things shifted.
The spotted hyenas turned their attention to the human.
Normally, the spotted hyena alpha female wouldn’t waste its time with humans, since they usually had weapons.
It gave the humans a passing glance, but the instant its eyes landed on Sierra, its gaze locked tight. It couldn’t tear its eyes
away.
Sierra seemed to shimmer with an otherworldly white glow, something the alpha female had never seen coming from a human before.
Just one look from Sierra was all it took. The alpha female’s bravado vanished like mist. It felt an irresistible urge to submit and found itself edging closer without even meaning to.
By the time it realized what was happening, it was already crawling toward Sierra, flattening itself to the ground in a gesture of total surrender.
The alpha female was left speechless.
Sierra hadn’t expected her animal affinity to be this overpowered. Her mouth twitched awkwardly. “Okay, that’s a bit much, don’t you think?”
The alpha female was left speechless.
It wasn’t like it wanted to bow. Its body just moved on its own, totally ignoring its will.
Just like its pack, they were already crowding around Sierra, sticking their butts up and wagging their tails, looking even more eager to please than it was.
‘Damn, this is nuts!’ the alpha female thought, totally baffled.
Is being a simp really something to brag about?’ it grumbled inwardly.
But even as it thought that, its tail was wagging even harder than the rest of the pack.
Sierra found the whole thing pretty amusing.
She glanced at the alpha female and said, “You’re the leader here, right? How about I hook your pack up with some food, and we call a ceasefire between you guys for today?”
Normally, Sierra wouldn’t mess with the natural order, but with both Sarah and Bonnie around, the hyenas wouldn’t really

come out ahead anyway.
The alpha female finally had a way to save face, and its mood visibly brightened.
It shot a look at the shivering cheetah cub up in the tree and gave a cold snort. “Hmph, for the human’s sake, I won’t hold it against this cheetah cub today.”
Sierra could tell there was something in the alpha female’s tone, but before she could ask, the alpha female went on.
It said, “If that cub ever tries to bully my pups again, I don’t care if I have to chase it all the way to Wolfsbane Meadow-it’s gonna be lunch!”
Sierra looked up and saw the little cheetah shaking like a leaf up in the tree.
Even Sarah looked puzzled. It turned to Bonnie and asked, “What happened?”
Bonnie scoffed, shooting it a smirk. “Maybe you should ask your own cub what it’s been up to!”
With that, both cheetahs and the whole spotted hyena pack craned their necks, all eyes turning to the little cheetah, who was shaking like a leaf.
The little cheetah’s legs turned to jelly as it tried to climb down the tree. The tree was way too tall, and halfway down, it slipped and fell right off. Thank goodness for the soft grass. It didn’t get hurt.
It shook its head and scampered over to Sarah’s paws. “Mom, I didn’t mean to! Come on, I was just curious.”
Sarah lowered its head, giving its cub a hard stare.
The intense mom glare made the little cheetah freak out even more, and it burst into tears. “Mom, don’t look at me like that! I swear I didn’t mean to bully the hyena cub!
“How was I supposed to know it was so squishy? I was just copying how the hyenas bite stuff, so I took a few chomps at its butt, but who knew…”
As it kept talking, its voice got smaller and smaller, and it flicked its long tail nervously. “I really didn’t think I’d actually wreck the hyena cub’s butt…”
Sarah just stared, speechless.
Sierra was speechless as well.
The alpha female snorted coldly. “Wrecked? You call that wrecked? Just look at the mess you made of my cub!”
With that, a male spotted hyena trotted over from the back, carrying a hyena cub about the size of a kid’s arm in its jaws.
When Sierra saw the state of the hyena cub’s butt, her jaw dropped and she sucked in a breath.
Honestly, she figured the hyenas had actually held back a bit.
