Chapter 177
Chapter 177
The little cheetah was just a kid, and a lot of things just went over its head.
But Sierra’s voice was so soft, like a gentle cloud circling a distant mountain, making the cheetah want to gaze up, admire. and believe.
It cocked its head, trying to remember what happened that day.
It said. “I was really close to the little spotted hyena. After my mom disappeared, the spotted hyena alpha female let me play with its cub
It took care of me, gave me milk, and made sure the cheetah group didn’t bully me. So I’ve always liked its cub, and I really like the spotted hyenas, too.
I loved watching the spotted hyenas chase after cows and sheep and nip at their butts, so I asked its cub to show me how. But I accidentally hurt it. I swear, I didn’t mean to!”
Sierra saw how panicked the cheetah cub looked and quickly asked. “So what happened after that? Was it really you who bit it on the butt?”.
The cheetah cub flopped down on the ground, looking totally wronged. “My memory’s so bad.
“All I remember is that after I hurt it. I wanted to get my aunt and the spotted hyena alpha female to come help, but I didn’t realize it was hurt so badly.
The spotted hyena alpha female was really mad, and my aunt grabbed me and we ran off.”
As the cheetah cub spoke, it suddenly burst into tears. “I really don’t know what happened. The spotted hyena cub is my best friend. I never wanted to hurt it, honestly! I had no idea my teeth were so strong!”
Even now, the cheetah cub still blamed itself for what happened to the spotted hyena cub.
But the adult animals and Sierra weren’t buying it. They immediately realized something didn’t add up.
The spotted hyena alpha female leaned in, checking its own cub’s wounds, and then eyed the cheetah cub’s teeth.
Sierra said, “The little cheetah’s been growing in its teeth lately, so it doesn’t really know how hard it bites. I did see a few bite marks on the cub’s leg, but they’re not too serious.
“From what I can tell, something must’ve happened after the little cheetah left to find you all.
As Sierra spoke, she gently picked up the spotted hyena cub. “It needs to go to the wildlife center for stitches and some rest. Once it’s healed up, I’ll bring the little one back to you, okay, Your Majesty?”
The spotted hyena alpha female already trusted Sierra completely.
When it heard that, its eyes showed a trace of reluctance, but it knew humans could work miracles. If its cub stayed out here in the wild, it wouldn’t make it.
Most cubs didn’t survive in the wild.
So only with the humans did its cub have a fighting chance.
“Okay,” the spotted hyena alpha female said.
It moved gracefully over to Sierra and gently nuzzled her arm. “I trust you.”

Chapter 177
Dvoud
Sierra and the others were about to take the spotted hyena cub to the wildlife center in Primal Pines, but just as the car started moving, a red jeep suddenly sped toward the passenger side, aiming right at Sierra.
The passenger-side window shattered, and the door was dented in.
Luckily, they’d rented the best car available. Sierra held the spotted hyena cub tightly, and everyone else in the car was unharmed.
But they were all shaken up.
“Sierra, are you okay?” Ethan asked, his expression hardening as he saw blood seeping from Sierra’s bite wound. He glared at the jeep that had crashed into them.
In a flash, Sarah, Bonnie, and the spotted hyena pack closed in around the red jeep.
Sophie leapt out with a Barrett M82 in hand, and leveled it at the driver.
“Get out of the car!” Sophie shouted in a foreign language, her voice cold and commanding.
There was no movement from inside the jeep. Sophie’s eyes narrowed, and she aimed at the red jeep’s tire, squeezing off a shot.
The tire on one side of the red jeep blew out instantly.
“You’ve got three seconds to get out. Three… Two…” Sophie warned, her voice cold as ice.
She chambered another round.
At the very last second, a tall, blue-eyed handsome foreigner stepped out of the driver’s seat of the red jeep.
He raised his hands above his head and said, “Don’t shoot.”
Sophie scowled hard, her expression fierce.
Ethan and Mark jumped out, twisted the guy’s arms behind his back, and pinned him down. The man crouched on the ground, rambling in some language none of them understood.
With the passenger side smashed in, Sierra had no choice but to crawl over the driver’s seat to get out.
By the time Sierra made it over, the foreigner was curled up on the ground, while the spotted hyena alpha female, Sarah, and Bonnie paced around him with a graceful but menacing air, sniffing him, their breath warm and heavy.
“Who are you?” Sierra asked sternly, fixing him with a steely glare.
Wesley instinctively looked up.
He’d been keeping an eye on that group of Hustralian-looking folks from afar, but he was too far away to make out what they were talking about.
But when he saw them with guns, getting ready to take the spotted hyena, Wesley knew he couldn’t wait around anymore.
But he hadn’t expected the girl questioning him to look so young-smooth-skinned, lips a little chapped but perfectly shaped, and those deep eyes. Just one glance, and he felt himself getting completely drawn in.
Wesley froze for a moment, and then finally asked, “Are you Hustralians?”
When he spoke in heavily accented Hustralian, the whole wildlife rescue team was stunned.
Timothy blurted out, “Holy crap, this foreign dude actually speaks Hustralian? That’s awesome!”

Everyone was speechless.
Wesley had no idea what he meant, but the rest made sense to him.

He squirmed on the ground, glanced up at Sierra, and said, “Thanks for calling me awesome. Seriously, it was all misunderstanding. Just let me go and I’ll explain everything, promise.”
All the wariness and fear in Wesley’s eyes melted away, replaced by warmth and a sense of connection.
But to the wildlife rescue team, Wesley seemed kind of weird.
a
They thought, ‘He literally crashed into our car one second, and the next he’s saying it was all just a misunderstanding?’
“Misunderstanding my ass!” Timothy rolled his eyes. “You smashed our car and now you say it’s just a misunderstanding?”
With that, Timothy gave Sarah a pat on the head. “Sarah, go show him who’s boss!”
Sarah let out a low, rumbling yowl and started prowling toward Wesley, every step full of menace.
Wesley’s eyes went wide in an instant.
“Bro, I swear, it’s all just a misunderstanding!” Wesley blurted out, his Hustralian suddenly sounding way more perfect than ever as he spoke fast and clear.
He said, “Look, I was just trying to protect the spotted hyena cub! I thought you guys were with that research team!”
Sierra suddenly spoke up, “Hold on.”
Sarah stopped in its tracks, flicked its tail, and padded over to Sierra.
Sierra looked at Wesley. “What did you mean by that?”
Wesley swallowed, sneaking a glance at the icy sniper rifle Sophie was holding. Trying to sound sincere, he admitted, “I’m not lying. I’m an international wildlife rescuer. Just look me up online. My name’s Wesley Sutton.”
There was an official site. Just typed in his name and they’d see everything.
Wesley gave Sierra his full name, and when she searched the site, his profile popped right up-photo, credentials, and a list of rescue missions he’d worked on.
After checking everything over, Sierra nodded at Ethan and Mark. “Let him go.”
Wesley finally got his arms free, grimacing as he gave them a good shake
Now that he was released, Wesley looked like he might just break down and cry right there.
Before Sierra could even ask, Wesley jumped in, “I came here about a month ago, mostly to watch spotted hyenas, cheetahs, and lions.
“You know, in the wild, spotted hyenas and cheetahs are supposed to hate each other, and the idea of a spotted hyena actually raising a cheetah cub? That’s just unheard of.
So when I saw them getting along like best buddies, it totally blew my mind.
“That’s what I thought, and the research team thought the same thing. So I actually saw them do some messed-up experiment that was just insane and gross…”
