Chapter 178
Chapter 178
As Wesley spoke, Sierra already had a pretty good idea of what was coming.
Sure enough, Wesley went on, “Two cubs from different species, even natural enemies, playing together? That’s something humans have never witnessed before.
“So when the research team saw the cheetah cub bite and injure the spotted hyena cub before leaving, they decided to run an experiment.”
The little cheetah finally caught on that Wesley was talking about it.
It meowed anxiously and blurted out, “I only left to find the spotted hyena alpha female! I’m way too little to carry the cub myself!”
Adult spotted hyenas were heavier than a grown human, and since it was even smaller than the cub, there was no way it could drag it. So it had to leave the cub where it was and go get help from the spotted hyena alpha female.
Wesley heard the sound and instinctively glanced down, only to see the little cheetah with those signature black “tear tracks” under his eyes, desperately protesting to him. Unfortunately, Wesley couldn’t understand a word of it.
Sierra scooped the cheetah cub into her arms, gently soothing it.
Wesley’s eyes went wide in shock.-
Cheetahs were super protective of their cubs, but Sierra just picked up a wild cheetah cub and started cuddling it like she was playing with a house cat.
‘Wait, something’s off!’ Wesley realized.
He looked around and noticed all the flamingos by the lake had turned to face them, while the grey crowned cranes stood less than 30 feet away, their long legs stretched tall.
Despite all the commotion, not a single animal left. Instead, every creature stayed put, quietly watching the scene unfold.
And they weren’t looking at him. Judging by their eyes, it was obvious Sierra was the center of attention.
‘Wait, could this Hustralian girl really be…?’ Wesley thought, his mind spinning.
Suddenly, Wesley’s eyes widened in shock. “No way! Are you the legendary beast tamer from Hustralia?”
Sierra was speechless as well.
‘What is he even talking about?’ she thought.
Sierra couldn’t help but roll her eyes and said, “Wesley, just keep going.”
Wesley’s eyes were a mix of awe and intrigue as he stared at Sierra. When she didn’t say anything, he instantly took her silence as confirmation. If she wasn’t denying it, she must be admitting it.
[Hustralians really are so modest and mysterious!’ Wesley couldn’t help but think to himself.
Wesley’s eyes suddenly sparkled as he went on. “After the little cheetah left, a few cheetahs got out of the research team’s vehicle and started mauling the spotted hyena cub, leaving it barely hanging on.
“I overheard them saying they wanted to run an experiment to see if wild animals from different species could think like humans and even betray each other like people do.”

Wesley finished and let out a heavy sigh. “The research team has a ton of people, and they are all carrying guns, so I didn’t dare get close.
“I was planning to wait until they left, then sneak the spotted hyena cub over to the animal rescue center. But the spotted hyena alpha female found her cub before I could do anything, so I never got the chance.”
Wesley didn’t need to say anything else. Everyone there already knew what happened next.
Animals just didn’t think the way humans did, so when the spotted hyena alpha female got mad, the cheetah cub just blurted out that it was the one who bit the spotted hyena cub.
To protect the cheetah cub, Bonnie ended up turning against the spotted hyena alpha female, and from that moment on, it was forced to go on the run.
“Why didn’t you tell anyone at the wildlife center?” Sierra asked.
Wesley replied, “I wanted to, but cheetahs and spotted hyenas becoming friends? That’s like something out of a fairy tale. Everything happened so suddenly that I didn’t even get it on video.”
Then he scoffed. “Plus, I was all alone. Who would believe me anyway? They’d probably just think I’m some joker trying to get attention. All I wanted was to get that spotted hyena cub to the wildlife center for treatment.”
Wesley had a point.
Sierra didn’t dwell on it. “We’ll trust you for now, but we’ll verify everything ourselves.
“I’ll get my team to take the spotted hyena cub to the rescue center and get it treated. You stick around and come with us to track down that research team.”
“Deal!” Wesley agreed without a second thought.
Then, remembering it’d wrecked Sierra’s car, it blurted out, “I’ll pay for a new one! Same model, I promise!”
Sierra replied, “We’ll get in touch with the rental company. Let’s talk about that later.”
With that, Sierra started making plans.
Alex and Timothy would take the spotted hyena cub back to the wildlife center and report the incident to the authorities, while the rest of the team would search the area for any sign of the research team Wesley had mentioned.
Once the plan was set, Wesley watched in disbelief as the spotted hyena alpha female took the initiative to pick up its cub and load it into the car.
Then, with surprising elegance, it hopped down and plopped itself right next to Sierra, its scruffy, wolfish face practically fawning for Sierra’s approval.
‘Wait, is this really that legendary butt specialist everyone talks about?’ Wesley thought, totally floored.
Wesley’s eyes went wide as he watched Alex and Timothy drive off
Good thing, even though both cars got roughed up to different degrees, the airbags in the front seats didn’t even deploy.
By now, it was getting late, so everyone decided to just camp outside for the night.
It was early February, and Primal Pines was notorious for its wild temperature swings.
Just that afternoon, they’d been fine with a couple of light jackets, but now Sierra and the others were layered up in heavy down jackets and burrowed deep into their sleeping bags.

The little cheetah was super curious about Sierra, kept sneaking glances at her, and clearly wanted to snuggle up with her for the night.
But, as expected, Sierra turned him down.
The spotted hyena alpha female wanted to snuggle up with Sierra, too. It even offered to be her personal heater for the night, but Sierra turned it down flat, no hesitation at all.
Sierra never had any prejudice against animals, but truth be told, the smell of wild animals was definitely not something you’d call pleasant.
At WonderWild Zoo, the animals always had fresh water to splash around in their own spaces.
And since they actually got what Sierra was saying, even if they weren’t fans of baths, they’d still make sure to keep themselves clean, just so they could cozy up to her whenever they got the chance.
Sierra might not judge animals, but she definitely wasn’t about to snuggle up with any stinky critters!
Both the spotted hyena alpha female and the cheetah cub realized what was up, so they just kept rubbing their faces against Sierra, trying to get a little affection anyway.
The cheetah cub whined, “Sierra, please let me sleep with you! I’m super duper well-behaved, I promise!”
The spotted hyena alpha female snorted. “That cheetah cub is a total troublemaker. It snores, kicks in its sleep, and gets up in the middle of the night looking for milk,
“He’s teething now, and you’re so delicate. He could easily nip you without meaning to.”
With practiced ease, the spotted hyena alpha female scooped the cheetah cub aside, and then sprawled out next to Sierra’s sleeping bag, hogging a huge patch of space.
It said, “But me? I’m different. I’m fluffy, I’m warm, and I sleep like a rock. Human, I’m your number one pick for a bed
warmer.”
The cheetah cub listened to the spotted hyena alpha female shamelessly bragging, kicked his little legs in a huff, and stormed off bawling.
“Mom, Aunt Bonnie, the spotted hyena is picking on me! Boohoo…” the cheetah cub bawled, sounding utterly miserable.
Honestly, its cries sounded just like a little kitten mewling.
Sarah glanced at its cub and gave its head a half-hearted lick.
The little cub wailed, tattling, “It is just bigger than me, so it hogs Sierra áll for itself! Mom, you should totally have an epic showdown with her. Let’s steal Sierra back together!”
Sarah just stared, speechless.
Too fed up to listen to its cub’s endless whining, Sarah gave it a swift kick with its back paw, booting the babbling little guy right into Bonnie’s lap.
Sierra heard the cub bawling and came out to see what all the fuss was about.
Sarah and Bonnie quickly got to their feet.
Sarah rumbled softly as it walked over and bumped its head against Sierra’s hand. “Sierra, don’t mind it. It’s just a kid, you know. It doesn’t mean anything by it.”
Since Sierra had already helped it out so much, Sarah didn’t want to push her luck or ask for anything else.

But Sierra simply sat down right where she was.
The night was dark as ink, but the stars glittered overhead and the air buzzed with insects. Off in the distance, large animals and birds watched Sierra from afar, none of them leaving.
Sierra snuggled up to Sarah and said, “Sarah, you don’t look happy. Will you tell me what’s really bothering you?”
Sarah paused, and then mumbled, “N-No, it’s nothing.”
“Sarah! Just say it. Sierra will totally help us!” Bonnie urged, hurrying over.
Sierra had pieced together most of the story by now. Bonnie was Sarah’s sister, and during the time Sarah was at WonderWild Zoo, it was Bonnie who looked after the cheetah cub, making sure it was fed and cared for.
Bonnie even turned down every male cheetah who tried to mate with it, all for the cub’s sake. She ended up getting kicked out of its territory and became a wanderer. Thankfully, the spotted hyenas welcomed them in.
Sierra waved Bonnie over. “Since Sarah doesn’t want to talk, maybe you could tell me, Bonnie?”
Bonnie glanced at Sarah, then at Sierra, and finally said with determination, “Sierra, the truth is, Sarah actually had five cubs!”
