Chapter 216 The Key Evidence
Leland’s wife shot up from her seat. She said, “The couch is so small, how could anything be hidden in it? That teddy dog is just being a brat. Flora probably yelled at it earlier, so it’s acting out on purpose.”
Curl’s ears flattened, and he jumped up, yelled back at Leland’s wife, “No way! I can smell it. There’s definitely something wrong with your couch!”
After saying that, Curl hopped off the couch and started jumping around Sierra like he was doing hurdles, barking his head off.
Teddy dogs like Curl had weak knees, and all that jumping wasn’t good for him, so Sierra just scooped him up.
Curl whined, “Sierra, you have to believe me! My nose never lies. There’s something stinky inside that couch: blood and the smell of wild animals!”
Hearing that, Sierra was now certain where the animal skins were hidden.
The cops could tell from the looks on Leland’s wife’s and mother’s faces that something was up. One of them ordered,” Open it up!”
“You can’t do that! Who dares touch it? This couch costs ten grand. Can you even pay for it if you break it?” Leland’s wife shouted.
The cop said, “If we break it and there’s nothing we’re looking for, we’ll pay for it at full price. But we’ve got a search warrant, and what you’re doing now is obstructing official business.
“This is your first warning. If you still refuse to cooperate or keep running your mouths, we’ll have to take stronger measures against you both.”
In Hustralia, cops rarely got into conflicts with regular folks.
Leland’s wife and Flora had no clue what “stronger measures” even meant.
Leland’s mother, in particular, started scratching and hitting the officers who were trying to-pull her away, leaving every cop with scratches and bruises on their faces.
“Second warning!” the cop shouted.
“Third warning!” the cop shouted again.
By the third warning, the cop didn’t hesitate. He whipped out a can of pepper spray from his belt and blasted Leland’s mother right in the face.
Her scream’s instantly filled the whole village.
Crowds gathered outside, watching the commotion.
Everyone sucked in a breath when they saw Leland’s mother, eyes blazing red and screaming, being hauled off to the squad
car.
Leland’s mother, who’d been mouthing off the whole time, couldn’t get a single word out now.
Leland’s wife was frozen in shock, just watching everything unfold.
She stood trembling in the doorway.
Sierra shot her a look and said, “If you’ve got nothing to hide, let them tear open the couch and prove it.”
Leland’s wife shrank back, too scared to say anything else.
Downstairs, Leland’s mother’s screams kept getting louder, echoing through the house.
Soon enough, the cops grabbed hammers and all kinds of tools and started taking the couch apart.
At first, nothing seemed off, but when they pried open the wooden panel under the cushions and flashed their lights inside, they spotted several wooden boxes.
The officer’s eyes lit up, and he waved his hand. He said, “Keep going! Rip it open!”
Soon enough, the couch was ripped apart and left in shambles.
From inside the six-foot couch, the cops dragged out three wooden boxes.
When they cracked them open, they found the boxes crammed with rare animal furs.
Most of it was fox fur.
Successfully unlocked!
Suddenly, Sierra’s eyes narrowed. Hugging Curl, she walked over slowly, Staring straight at the white tiger skin. Her eyes shimmered with tears.

She turned to Leland’s wife, standing in the doorway. She demanded, “So this is what you call innocent?”
Sierra pressed in, her eyes boring into Leland’s wife. She said, “Your husband, Leland, did all this for money: setting traps in the mountains. How many animals did he kill? These boxes are just the ones you haven’t gotten rid of yet, right?”
“No, that’s not it,” Leland’s wife protested weakly.
Sierra let out a cold laugh. She said, “You know exactly what’s going on. Soon, your whole family will be meeting up in prison!
“Oh, and didn’t you and your mom keep saying I made the takin ram into Dustin on purpose? Well, guess what? You’re absolutely right. I did it on purpose!
“Because he wanted me dead! If it hadn’t been for the takin, I’d be the one six feet under!”
Without another word, Sierra scooped up Curl and strode out.
Sierra brought Curl back to the pet shop.
Curl whimpered, “Sierra, can’t you buy me and take me home? My nose is amazing. I could help you with anything! And all the other humans say I’m ugly, but you’re the only one who doesn’t mind.”
Curl had been at the pet shop for two whole years, and still, no human wanted to buy him.
Sierra felt a pang of sympathy for him.
Just as Sierra was about to speak, the pet shop owner strolled over and gave Curl’s long ears a gentle pinch. He snapped, Curl, were you some kind of actor in your previous life? You’re always whining that I’m mistreating you.”
The owner barely touched his ears, but Curl let out a scream that could wake the dead.
The owner looked a bit sheepish and said, “Ms. Sterling, this dog is a total drama king. He’s mine, but every time someone offers him a treat, he puts on the saddest face ever and would ditch me in a heartbeat for anyone with snacks.
“I have no clue what he’s actually saying, but I swear he’s just milking it for sympathy.”
Curl’s expression flipped in a heartbeat.
He went full zombie mode, barking at the owner, “Not true! I don’t wanna stay with you, I wanna go with Sierra!”
“Hey, still yapping?” the owner said, exasperated.
The owner knew Curl’s tricks all too well and just picked him up, putting him back in his crate.
Curl went off again, barking his head off like he was auditioning for a zombie movie.
Sierra couldn’t help but roll her eyes. Any sympathy she had was gone in a flash.
She thought, ‘No wonder he’s ranked as one of the smartest dogs. The way he pulls these stunts, I gotta admit, it’s impressive.’
Sierra said, “Big thanks to Curl for all his help today! In a few days, the cops will probably swing by to take a quick photo with him and give him a certificate of appreciation.
“And here are the cookies I promised. They’ll stay fresh for about two weeks.”
After saying a couple more things, Sierra hopped on a flight back to Amberty with the Amberty police.
Meanwhile, the Darkmoor police issued a public notice, exposing how Leland’s wife and mother tried to smear the cops. To gather enough evidence, Sierra had the takin guide the police back to the spot before she left so that they could search the area for more traps.
Near the white tiger’s territory, they found over thirty hunting traps of all shapes and sizes.
On some of the traps, the cops even managed to collect fingerprints.
After a thorough investigation, the cops arrested the villagers whose fingerprints matched the ones found on the traps. They also uploaded footage from the operation to their official police video account.
All the clips: Leland’s mother going wild, Curl’s big moment finding the furs, were posted online for everyone to watch. They even released a full breakdown of the scene regarding Dustin’s death.
The whole situation flipped in the blink of an eye.
One commented: [Damn, so the white tiger really killed Leland for revenge?]
Another commented: [Honestly, what did the white tiger do wrong? Leland killed the tiger’s mate, skinned her, and ripped out her tendons. The tiger just came down and killed him. How is that wrong?]
A comment read: [Dustin totally had it coming. He was out to kill not just the white tiger, but Sierra, too. If it hadn’t been for

the takin, Sierra would be the one dead. So why should Sierra have protected that old bastard?]
One commented: [Good thing the white tiger and his cub ran into Sierra, or they’d have been killed ages ago.]
Another commented: [Sierra only went up there because she heard the white tiger was hurt during a livestream. I can’t even imagine how much she had to go through just to climb the Greenridge Mountains.]
One commented: [It’s just one mountain, what’s the big deal?]
A comment read: [Man, do you even read? Greenridge is a whole mountain range, not just one mountain!]
The person replied: [Oh, for real? Sorry, I dropped out before finishing grade school and hit the streets. Did they even teach that in elementary?]

As soon as the plane landed at Amberty Airport, everyone’s opinion had done a total 180.
Sierra was practically bursting with excitement. She couldn’t wait to rush back and tell the white tiger the good news
herself.
She didn’t bring the animal skins back with her. Instead, she asked the local police to bury them outside their old cave,
once the evidence was collected.
When the white tiger heard what Sierra had done, he nuzzled her face softly and said, “Thank you, Sierra.”
His mate could finally return home and rest in peace.
