Chapter 240 Asking For Help

Sierra got the call at 5 A.M. that day.

The zookeeper sounded frantic. As soon as Sierra heard the news, any trace of sleep vanished. She shot up in bed, instantly awake.

As she turned on the light, the entire staff dorm lit up in unison.

No one slacked off or hesitated. Not even bothering with raincoats, still in their pajamas, they rushed out the door.

It was still pitch dark outside, and the wind and rain were pounding down, the drops drumming against the glass. Sierra’s voice was almost swallowed up by the commotion of the crowd.

She shouted to the crowd, “Everyone, check on all the animals in the zoo! If any are up on the mountain, get them down right away.

“If you’re not sure about anything, just ask me in the group chat. Go!”

Before she could finish, hundreds of zookeepers were already sprinting off, disappearing into the storm.

The wildlife rescue team was already out there, helping however they could.

Sierra stood in the corridor, closed her eyes, and entered the WonderWild Zoo within the System.

The best thing about the System was that whenever there was any danger in the WonderWild Zoo, it would instantly light up her mental map with alarms, showing her exactly where the trouble was.

Right now, her mind was covered in red alert points.

The whole zoo was nestled in the mountains, and after half a month of endless rain followed by three straight days of heavy storms, there was no way those slopes could take it anymore.

Sierra went straight to the riskiest areas, soothing the animals while getting them to safer ground.

The four raccoons in the raccoon enclosure were mostly okay.

But Angel always easily got scared, and right now, it was terrified. The other three tried to comfort Angel, but it wasn’t having it. It just kept begging Sierra to hold it.

Angel was almost 220 pounds now, and Sierra managed to pick it up, but after barely a moment, she had to set it back down.

Angel kept giving Sierra those pleading looks, reaching out her paws. “Sierra, hold me.”

Sierra quickly shot a look at the other three raccoons.

The three raccoons instantly caught on. “Hey Angel, let me give you a hug.”

“No,” Angel wailed.

It was swarmed by the other three raccoons and had no way to escape. Seeing it distracted, Sierra quickly whisked the raccoons away to safety.

But there were just too many animals to evacuate. Even with all the upgrades the System had made, the WonderWild Zoo still didn’t have enough room to give each animal its own space.

So by 8 A.M., every single animal had ended up gathered together in one place.

The lions were pouncing at the birds, and the parrots were squawking their heads off, all begging Sierra to do something about it.

Solomon gave Sierra a wounded look. “My human wife, I swear I didn’t mean it. It’s just… I can’t help it. It’s in my genes.”

Sierra felt tongue-tied.

She wasn’t really worried about the animals getting into a brawl or hurting each other right in front of her.

But just like Solomon said, every creature had its own place in the natural order, and keeping their instincts in check was no

i easy feat.

Sierra spent ages trying to soothe the chaos and keep all the animals calm.

By the time she finally got everyone settled, Sierra was completely wiped out and felt like she could just collapse right there. The rain just kept coming down. Amberty was known for its top-notch drainage system, but even that couldn’t handle this kind of downpour. The whole streets were gettin Successfully unlocked!

A few other zoos in the same city didn’t catch the warning signs soon enough, and after the landslides, they ended up with a bunch of injured animals.

With things getting out of hand, the zoo managers could only turn to Sierra for help

Sierra didn’t waste a second. She rounded up a few zookeepers and rushed over.

When they arrived, the devastation was plain to noo.

Amberty Zoo was also massive, but after more than 60 years, a lot of its buildings and equipment were pretty run-down The drainage system of Amberly Zoo just couldn’t keep up with the downpour, and over half the zoo was swamped.

When Sierra arrived, Amberty Zoo’s director looked like he was about to burst into tears. “Ms. Sterling, you guys showed up just in time.

“We’ve got way too many animals to relocate right now. Any chance WonderWild Zoo has room for them?”

Sierra answered right away, “We do, but it’s pretty packed. Even our mountain area got flooded, so we’ve got a bunch of animals bunking together.

“If you’re okay with that, we can take some in.”

“That’s perfect. As long as you can take them in, that’s all that matters,” the zoo director replied.

To most people, wild animals seemed like total survivors, like they were naturally way tougher than humans.

But that was not really the case. Wild animals could get sick and die, too, just like humans.

People only thought that way because 99% of human beings lived in steel cities, far from nature. When wild animals died, it happened quietly, out of sight. Most people naturally couldn’t see it.

Right now, every animal at Amberty Zoo was completely drenched. If they stayed like this any longer, some of them would come down with a cold.

And if the cold turned into the flu, that’d be a whole other nightmare.

Sierra found Thomas and Ethan and said, “First, get all the animals from Amberty Zoo over to our place.

“Then go buy as many hair dryers as you can. We need to get their fur dry ASAP.”

With thousands of animals, just blow-drying all their fur is a huge project.

Ethan said, “Getting the dryers is easy, but with this many animals, it takes hours just to dry one with thick fur.

“Even with everyone from both zoos, we’ve only got about a thousand people. That’s…”

There might be a lot of zookeepers, but compared to the number of animals, it’s nothing.

The rain just kept coming down, with no sign of letting up.

The situation at Amberty Zoo was getting worse. They had to evacuate two-thirds of the animals in one go.

“Here’s what we’ll do,” Sierra said. “Our drainage system is still working fine. Have Ryan put out a help request on WonderWild Zoo’s website and see if any nearby residents want to come help out.

“If no one shows up, just blow their fur half-dry and do your best to keep them apart.”

For now, Sierra couldn’t come up with any better solution.

Disasters-whether natural or man-made-were way beyond what someone like her, just a regular person, could ever see

coming.

All she could do was keep moving and handle whatever came her way, making sure every task got done.

She had to get all the animals safe as fast as possible, doing everything she could to keep them healthy and alive.

When Ryan arrived, he was drenched from head to toe, his hair hanging in wet clumps with rainwater still dripping off him.

After Sierra explained what needed to be done, Ryan gave a solemn nod, all business.

“Don’t worry, Sierra. I’ll take care of it,” he promised.

Ryan was super efficient. He quickly put together a thorough post explaining Amberty Zoo’s current crisis, listing exactly how many people and what equipment were needed.

He even figured out which areas were safe and how vehicles could get in and out, all in record time.

It might sound simple, but actually making it happen was a whole different story. The person in charge needed to think about every little thing.

Ryan used the WonderWild Zoo account to put out the call, and the replies came flooding in.

He set up a large group chat to organize the volunteers and keep track of who was actually coming.

With so many people needed, Ryan oven considered contacting the police, so they could work together with the zoo’s own

security staff to help coordinate the volunteers as they arrived.

None of them expected what happened next.

In less than half an hour, over a thousand people showed up at the zoo gates.
