Chapter 241 Elephant Rescue Team
Sierra barely had time to thank the volunteers.
There were so many animals transferred from Amberty Zoo that the volunteers flooded into the zoo as soon as they arrived.
Unlike the usual staff, the volunteers all had excitement written across their faces.
The zoo didn’t even need to prepare blowers; everyone brought their own from home.
Even though they were all soaked to the bone, they rubbed their hands together and asked, “When can we touch these wild animals?”
“Yeah, Sierra. I brought three hair dryers. I want to give the raccoons a blow-dry,” one volunteer said.
“Back off. The raccoons are mine,” another shot back.
“I want to blow-dry Solomon. I gotta see just how bad its feet smell,” someone else chimed in.
“Payton’s probably soaked, too. I’ll pet… Wait, no, I’ll blow-dry Payton’s fur,” another volunteer said.
Before any tasks were even assigned, everyone was already scrambling to decide who would blow-dry which animal.
Some of them were so fired up, it looked like they were about to start a fight.
Sierra didn’t know whether to laugh or cry at the scene.
She grabbed the mic and said, “Thanks for coming through when we needed you most.
“Our zoo’s animals are all safe and pretty much dry now. The real victims right now are the animals from Amberty Zoo.
“Tasks will be assigned at random, and the keepers will show you where to go. But don’t worry. Every wild animal you meet here is a total sweetheart. You won’t have to worry about any of them getting aggressive.
“Just remember. Don’t blow air into their ears. Don’t go grabbing their butts, and whatever you do, don’t poke them…”
After a few more instructions, Sierra looked truly grateful as she spoke to everyone. “Seriously, thank you all so much for stepping up when things get tough.
“On behalf of every wild animal here, I’m really grateful for your help.”
With that, Sierra bowed deeply.
Nów wasn’t the time for more words of gratitude.
Getting the animals dry was the top priority.
The keepers and volunteers were right on it.
Within three hours, volunteers kept arriving one after another, éach carrying a hair dryer.
By the five-hour mark, every last animal-big or small-had its fur dried off.
The rain showed no sign of stopping, but rain or no rain, every animal was settled in safe and sound within twenty-four hours.
By the time everything was done, everyone was completely wiped out.
Still, nobody dared to slack off. With the rain pouring nonstop, no one could say if something even worse was coming next. So the keepers pulled shifts around the clock, keeping a close eye on the animals day and night.
The next few days, the rain finally let up a bit.
But bad news kept coming in. The villages and small towns around Amberty were flooded because their old drainage systems just couldn’t handle all the water.
The heavy rain had triggered massive floods, and the streets and villages were buried in mud.
Heavy equipment couldn’t even get through the muck, so local cops and soldiers had to wade in and clear out the mud themselves.
With so much ground to cover, some houses got wrecked by the floodwaters, and nobody had any idea if people were still stuck inside or not.
When Sierra saw the devastation in the videos, she didn’t even hesitate. She just wired a million bucks straight to the local disaster relief fund.

fights broke out every now and then.
Keepers from both sides had to jump in and break things up.
Every time, Sierra would have the keepers record the chaos, edit the footage, and upload it online.
Sure enough, it caught a lot of people’s attention.
Amberty Zoo, which had never had many fans, suddenly saw its follower count shoot up from ten thousand to a hundred thousand overnight.
But on the third day after the rain finally let up, the chief of the Amberty police station came to find Sierra at WonderWild Zoo, looking seriously anxious.
He got straight to the point. “Ms. Sterling, there’s a village less than 186 miles away, built entirely of wood.
“The whole place got flattened by the flood. Some of the elderly didn’t make it out in time and are now trapped under the collapsed houses.”
After a pause, the chief continued, “But the whole village is knee-deep in mud. Anyone who steps in sinks halfway down, so cleanup is painfully slow.
“I know you’ve got a way with those big animals. They actually listen to you. Since no vehicles can get through, I wanted to ask if your elephants could help us move the heavy timber?”
Sierra could hear the desperation in the police chief’s voice.
If things weren’t so dire, he’d never in a million years ask the animals to pitch in.
Sierra was taken aback for a moment.
Then she replied, “I’ll need to ask the elephants first, and…”
Sierra looked the chief in the eye and said seriously, “If they agree, they’ll be working on official business. Their daily meals have to be more than enough, and they deserve some extra rewards, too.”
“That’s totally fine. We’ll cover their food for the whole year out of our budget,” the chief replied without hesitation.
He knew it would cost a lot, but if it meant finding those people, it was all worth it.
The chief’s eyes were full of sorrow as he spoke quietly. “Ms. Sterling, most of the people trapped in that village didn’t make it. The families who survived are falling apart, just staring at the ruins of their homes.
“That’s why the police and military want to get the victims out as soon as possible. Whether it’s cremation or burial, we have to give their families some closure.”
Even with all modern technology, when nature struck, people were still left powerless.
After hearing that, Sierra rushed over to the elephant barn.
There were ten elephants in the barn now, plus Pip, the little one.
As soon as the elephants heard the request, they all trumpeted and agreed without hesitation.
The chief was ecstatic. He immediately set up a dedicated train for the elephants, and before anyone knew it, those ten gentle giants were rolling out toward the disaster zone.
Sierra and the wildlife rescue team tagged along right behind in their own vehicles.
After a four-hour trek, they finally reached the area hit hardest by the flood.
The villages around Amberty didn’t have as many mountains as those down south, but this one was seriously unlucky. It was hemmed in by mountains on every side.
Days of nonstop rain had caused parts of the mountains to collapse, and when the floodwaters hit, houses were smashed to pieces, tangled up with debris and splintered wood.
Before Sierra arrived, she had never expected things to be that dire.
But after she saw it for herself, a chill ran through her heart.
Surrounded by the heart-wrenching cries of the victims’ families, Sierra gently patted the elephants’ bellies and said, ” Sweethearts, please listen to the instructions and help us out.
“I’m really counting on you.”
The elephants let out a gentle trumpet and nudged Sierra with their heads. One of them spoke up, its voice soft and comforting, “Don’t worry, Sierra. We’ve got this.”
In real life, elephants were much larger than they ever looked on TV.

Next to these giants, a grown man would look like a pet standing beside its owner.
The elephants gently used their trunks to move aside the timber mixed with mud and debris, working piece by piece.
By midday, they had already found three elderly people who had lost their lives.
The sight was heartbreaking. After collecting the remains, the forensic team rushed them back to the morgue for post- mortem care and reconstruction.
Elephants were absolute powerhouses. In other countries, folks had even trained thern to do heavy lifting, putting these giants to work just to save on labor costs.
One elephant packed the strength of 20 grown men, so with all ten of them pitching in, the rescue sped up like crazy.
Three days later, all the victims in the village had finally recovered.
There was a light rain for about three hours, but luckily, it never got any heavier. Then, out of nowhere, the sun came out.
The disaster hit out of nowhere, and just like that, it disappeared as suddenly as it came.
