Chapter 243 Creating An Oceanarium!
Sierra heard a familiar voice, and her eyes flew open.
Then, the System’s mechanical voice echoed in her mind: [Beep!
[New mission: Rescue marine animals and create an oceanarium to house them within one month.
[Reward: WonderWild Zoo upgraded to 100%.
[Please complete the mission in a timely manner.]
The System disappeared without a trace, leaving nothing but a blue panel hovering in front of Sierra.
Sierra was stunned for a second, but she quickly caught on to what the System was getting at.
The marine creatures she’d brought back from Elyria were still out in the deep waters off Harborty, currently under the care of the Harborty Environmental Agency.
But with so many fish and some dolphins seriously injured, Sierra had to shell out a ton of cash for the dolphins’ medical care after WonderWild Zoo opened.
So now, the System was basically telling her to rescue all the marine animals that needed help and set up an oceanarium.
But with WonderWild Zoo being so tiny, how was she supposed to build a huge oceanarium in just one month?
No matter how many times Sierra tried to get a response from the System, it was completely unresponsive, like it had shut down for good, with no peep from it.
Hence, Sierra had no choice but to report the situation to Thomas.
Thomas listened and said, “The System must have its reasons for giving us this mission. Sierra, here’s the plan. You guys head over to Harborty and check out the situation with the marine animals.
“See if anything’s up. Once we’ve got a handle on things, I’ll look into whether we’ve got any room left to expand WonderWild Zoo, and then we’ll get started on building that oceanarium.”
Sierra nodded in response.
They weren’t in a rush this time, so after Sierra gave the wildlife rescue team a heads-up, she waited until the next day to
head out.
This time, she didn’t go alone. Ryan came with her.
After the last trip to Tiger Haven, Ryan signed a confidentiality agreement. Since he was a tech whiz, Thomas thought it over and brought Ryan onto the wildlife rescue team.
It was only then that Sierra learned both of Ryan’s parents had been heads of a migratory bird sanctuary.
Twenty years ago, poaching was rampant, and during their time in charge, they led the fight against over a hundred poaching cases.
But shortly after Ryan was born, his parents were targeted by a poaching gang they hadn’t managed to shut down. They were kidnapped and brutally murdered, and their bodies were found dismembered.
Ryan became an orphan before he was even three, and ever since, his relatives never let him do any fieldwork again.
But he inherited his parents’ passion. He grew up totally obsessed with wild animals.
The Quentin family had been trying to keep him away from the wild for years, but they only found out what he was up to after he landed a government job.
By then, it was already too late to stop him.
Thomas knew a few of the Quentin family elders and talked their ears off trying to convince them. But with Ryan being so stubborn, they finally agreed to let him tag along with Sierra.
Thus, before they headed out for Harborty, Thomas said, “Sierra; I’m asking you this as a favor. Ryan comes off as easygoing, but he’s actually really sensitive.
“He never brings up his parents. It’s not because he doesn’t care, but because he keeps all that pain locked away. He’s bound to end up working in the field someday.
“Honestly, I think he’s safest with you. He’s got almost no field experience, so don’t hesitate to give him a hard time when he needs it.
Successfully unlocked!
“But if things get dangerous, I hope you’ll be the time had
Thomas and Ryan’s parents were good friends and colleagues back in the day.

After Ryan’s parents passed away, Thomas just couldn’t bring himself to face Ryan, the orphan, so he ended up seeing Ryan less and less.
Humans live about seventy years on average. Most people never really understood death until it happened.
But death always means an abrupt end.
Not only would soldiers make sacrifices. There were heroes from all kinds of backgrounds who gave their lives for what they loved.
Sierra agreed to Thomas’s request.
When Ryan found out he could go on a mission with Sierra, he was over the moon. His smile never left his face, even as they got in the car.
Everyone on the wildlife rescue team knew about Ryan’s past, but nobody brought it up. Still, they all went out of their way to look after him on the trip.
Ryan was worried he wouldn’t fit in, but by the time the plane landed in Harborty, he realized he’d been overthinking it.
‘Anyone who can be friends with Sierra can’t be a bad person, Ryan thought to himself.
As soon as they stepped off the plane, the Harborty Environmental Agency’s vans were already waiting for them outside the airport.
There were two vans parked outside the pick-up area. They looked like they’d seen better days, and the interior wasn’t anything special, but they could fit all their luggage for the trip.
The person in charge of the welcome was Harold Levy, the director of the environmental agency.
Harold wore round, decorative rimmed glasses, and his chubby face gave him a friendly, approachable look. He was dressed in a simple suit, and his round cheeks made him look kind of cute.
He said, “You must be the experts from Amberty Zoo. The higher-ups already filled us in on your situation. You must be tired from the trip.
“Let’s have a nice home-cooked meal tonight, and tomorrow, I’ll go out to sea with you to check on the dolphins and humpback whales.”
Sierra checked in with Harold about how the fish and dolphins were doing lately.
Harold answered, “After you left, the government sent a bunch of people to help out. We did our best to tag every dolphin and big marine animal with an ID code, but you know how it is.
“There are just so many out there. We could only do what we could.”
Sierra understood.
Then she read through the data report Harold had brought.
Since she’d been gone, roughly twenty percent of the dolphins had died because their wounds got badly infected.
‘That’s actually a lot lower than I expected, Sierra thought, feeling a bit relieved.
After. going over the report, Sierra nodded. “Tomorrow, we’ll head out to sea and see how the dolphins are doing.”
Plus, it had been ages since Sierra had seen Finn and Leah. She was actually looking forward to catching up with them.
*****
When Harold said they’d have a simple meal, he wasn’t kidding. The environmental agency building looked pretty beat-up, and the staff dorms were old and worn, like something out of a bygone era.
Once everyone had stashed their luggage, Harold got them a private room at a restaurant nearby.
The food was plentiful and inexpensive.
No pointless speeches, no rounds of drinks. After sorting out the plan for tomorrow’s trip out to sea, everyone just dug in. Since they’d be heading out to sea the next day, nobody wanted to risk getting seasick, so they all called it an early night. The next morning, everyone was waiting downstairs with just their essentials, but Harold had beaten them to it. They loaded up the van and made their way to the shore.
This time, the boat was noticeably smaller-definitely much tinier than the ferry Coleson’s family had used before.
The trip from the dock out to the deep sea would take several hours, but since they still had a signal on the boat, Sierra started a livestream for her followers.
After settling some squabbles between a few pet cats and pet dogs and their owners, Sierra saw they were almost in the

deep-sea area, and the signal was getting shaky, so she wrapped up her stream.
“Sierra, we’ve made it to the deep sea.” Just as Sierra ended her livestream, she heard Ryan’s voice from outside He sounded a little excited.
She opened the door to find Ryan staring at her with big, eager eyes.
Ryan blurted out, “Sierra, I watched your stream back in Elyria. Are we really about to hop on a little boat and head out to the deep sea to look for dolphins and humpback whales?”
Before Sierra could even say a word, Ryan was already rubbing his hands together, practically buzzing with excitement.
Sierra was speechless.
Ryan, knowing exactly what was needed, had already put on his wetsuit.
“Let’s go,” Sierra said.
With the wildlife rescue team growing in size, they needed two small boats this time, and both set out together.
Sierra was holding a tablet, and the whole screen was blue except for a single red dot that was moving quickly toward her.
That was the tracker they’d put on Leah. It didn’t bother her or cause any discomfort, but it let them track its location at any
time.
Just as Harold was about to ask Sierra why they weren’t heading out to find Leah, he suddenly heard excited cries echoing from far out at sea.
Before Harold could even react, he saw hundreds of dolphins, orcas, and humpback whales racing toward them across the
water.
They leaped out of the sea, arching gracefully through the shimmering waves.
Then, with loud splashes, they crashed back into the water, their tails propelling them forward with unstoppable force as they headed straight for Sierra’s boat.
Sierra’s lips twitched as a sudden realization hit her.
‘Oh, no!’ she thought.
The next second, Sierra saw Leah, the little orca, leap out of the water, letting out an excited, ethereal call. “Sierra! Here I come!”
There was a huge crashing sound, and the boat went belly-up.
