Chapter 246 Fut Authority Over Marne Animals
Chapter 246 Full Authority Over Marine Animals
The wildlife rescue team hoisted Cherry up with ropes. Then Sierra, Sophie, and Ethan boarded the helicopter, while the rest of the team headed back by boat.
The round trip took less than two hours. By the time Cherry was brought to the nearest rescue station’s operating room its vital signs were already extremely weak.
Fortunately, since the station was right by the coast, the local medical team had plenty of experience with situations like this.
By the time Cherry was loaded onto the plane, Sierra, Ethan, and the others were already physically and mentally exhausted. Hence, Sierra just helped out on the side during the surgery.
The surgery went off without a hitch. After seven long hours, the lead surgeon managed to clear all the marine trash from Cherry’s stomach and intestines, and it was moved to the animal ICU for monitoring.
When Sierra finally emerged from the operating room, it was already 3 A.M. the next day.
There wasn’t much the wildlife rescue team could do except wait outside.
Everyone immediately got to their feet as Sierra walked out.
Elliot hadn’t left the whole time. When he saw Sierra’s lips were pale, he quickly pulled a chocolate bar from his suit pocket.” Sierra, are you okay?
‘Have some chocolate to tide you over. I’ll have my assistant bring you something to eat right away.”
The wildlife rescue team just stared, dead silent.
Wow! Double standards, huh? they thought.
They’d been there for hours too, hungry and thirsty, but Elliot hadn’t offered them a thing.
The team members sent Elliot resentful looks.
But Elliot pretended not to notice, holding out the chocolate with hopeful eyes, just waiting for Sierra to take it.
Sierra didn’t have the energy to care about everyone’s stares. She just said thanks, unwrapped the chocolate, took a bite, and updated them on Cherry’s condition.
Cherry needed someone to stay with it overnight. The hours after surgery were always the riskiest. If they weren’t careful, it could spike a fever or have other issues crop up.
But with plenty of staff on duty at the rescue station, Sierra didn’t have much to worry about.
*Everyone, get some rest tonight. Tomorrow at noon, make sure Harold and the other key people are in the conference room. I’ve got a few things I want to talk to them face-to-face,” Sierra said.
Ethan knew exactly what Sierra meant, so he nodded and said, “I’ll take care of it.”
When they got back to the crew quarters, Elliot ordered takeout for everyone. He joined them for a few bites, but then, probably swamped with work, he slipped out without saying a word.
After eating, Sierra just washed up quickly and crashed onto her bed. She closed her eyes, and within seconds, she was out
cold.
She slept straight through for eight hours, only waking up at noon the next day.
If Ryan and Timothy hadn’t come knocking on her door, she probably would’ve kept sleeping for another couple of hours before she was fully awake.
After getting dressed, Sierra found Ryan and Timothy, her two goofy friends, waiting for her.
Seeing Sierra finally up, Ryan said, “Sierra, Cherry’s awake. It’s asking for you.”
Sierra doubled back into her room. “I’ll get ready and head over right away.”
Since they were both guys, Ryan and Timothy just shut the door behind her and waited out in the hallway, killing time on their phones.
Less than ten minutes later, Sierra came out, still carrying a hint of her shower gel.
In this job, no one wasted a second.
“Let’s go. Come with me, Sierra said.
When Sierra arrived, Ethan, Sophie, Mark, and A.
As soon as they saw her, they all crowded around.

Sophie asked with concern, “Did you get any rest?”
Sierra nodded. “Yeah. I’m all rested up. So, what’s Cherry’s situation right now?”
Ethan explained, “It’s been making little noises ever since she woke up. Not sure if it’s pain or something else.
“The doctor said that with the pain pump, most animals stay quiet, but Cherry’s been getting more and more agitated.
“Looks like she really wants to see you-maybe she’s got something to tell you.”
Hearing that, Sierra scrubbed in, suited up in protective gear, and stepped into the animal ICU observation room.
Cherry heard the noise and picked up Sierra’s familiar scent, instantly turning toward her.
A jagged scar, as thick as an arm, ran down its body-gnarly and fierce-looking-as it drifted slowly through the water.
“Human, here you came,” Cherry called out, her voice buzzing with excitement.
If it weren’t for the pain, its tail would be spinning like a motor.
Sierra said, “Cherry, I heard you were looking for me.”
“Cherry? Who’s that?” Cherry asked, sounding confused.
Sierra explained, “That’s the name people gave you.”
Enlightened, Cherry thought, ‘Oh. So that’s what that was about.’
Seeing Cherry deep in thought, Sierra asked, “Cherry, you’re a healthy female dolphin, but why did you eat so much trash?”
She couldn’t help thinking about the stuff they had removed yesterday. After the surgery, they weighed it, and it was 11 pounds of trash that hadn’t been digested at all.
Dolphins weren’t dumb. If it was just a little, that’d be one thing, but Cherry ate that much? It just didn’t make sense.
Cherry was caught off guard by the question.
Then she said, “Humans keep taking our food, so sometimes we’re left hungry. And…I did it for my kid.”
“Your son?” Sierra was taken aback, but then she remembered that the research team had been tracking Cherry for five years. At her age, there was no way she hadn’t had a baby by now.
“What happened to your son?” Sierra asked quickly. “Where is he now?”
Cherry got all flustered and hurried to explain, “I came to you because I need help for my son. A month ago, a boat’s propeller broke his jaw, and now he can’t eat by himself.
“So I’ve been trying to find food for him wherever I can… I didn’t know it was just garbage.”
She figured if it fit in her mouth, it had to be food.
Sierra fell into silence when she heard Cherry’s words.
Then she asked quickly, “So your son is missing? Was it in the same area where you got hurt?”
Cherry nodded. “My son is only a few months old. His jaw was broken, and he hasn’t been able to open his mouth since.
“We got separated when a huge ship suddenly showed up. He freaked out at the propellers and bolted. I tried to chase after him, but I just couldn’t catch up.”
While it spoke, Cherry broke down in tears.
Anyone outside would just hear the mournful sounds of a dolphin crying.
Sierra jumped in to comfort it, “Don’t worry, Cherry. I’ll get out there ASAP and look for your kid. You just focus on getting better here. If we find your son, we’ll help fix his jaw, too.”
If they could build a fake leg for a tiger, making a prosthetic jaw for a dolphin should be totally doable.
After calming Cherry down, Sierra headed out.
Harold was standing at the door, looking all meek and deferential.
Even though he technically outranked Sierra, the truth was, he had no clue who she really was, and Sierra had absolute authority over everyone here.
Even if the director himself showed up, he’d have to step aside for Sierra.
As just a lowly director, Harold could only keep his head down and hope he didn’t get on Sierra’s bad side.
Otherwise… Harold suddenly seemed to remember something, and his round face instantly broke into a fawning smile. Sierra cast Harold a quick glance. “Seriously, you don’t have to look at me like that. I’ll be heading out to sea again in a bit. Harold, get the boat ready, and…”

She paused for a moment, then said, “Since your team’s been so sloppy with procedures, I’ll be in charge of all the marine animals around here from now on.
“If there are any fish that aren’t fit to live in the ocean, I’ll be taking them off your hands.”
Harold looked absolutely shocked.
He wondered, ‘All of them?
‘How much is that gonna cost?
‘Plus, if she really takes everything, their budget from the higher-ups is gonna shrink for sure.
Harold’s mind was racing, but Sierra didn’t let up. “And when I get back from the sea, I’ll be reporting your problems directly to the top brass at HQ.
“Just so you know, Harold. Get all your expenses related to marine life ready. If your receipts don’t match what you’re actually doing, I’ll make sure your whole department gets a visit from me.”
If someone needed to get the boot, they would be out. If someone needed to do time, they would be going behind bars.
Sure enough, Sierra’s words made Harold’s mind go blank for a second.
Harold stammered, “We’re all legit here, really. There’s no way there’s a problem.”
But even as he said it, cold sweat broke out on his forehead.
Sierra’s aura was seriously overwhelming.
But Sierra acted like she didn’t notice. “Whether there’s a problem or not, we’ll see after the investigation.
“The Audit Team never lets a crook off the hook, and they don’t frame the innocent. We trust the authorities to get it right.”
Her eyes sparkled with a cold edge. “Right, Harold?” she added flatly.
