Chapter 254

Whatever they end up as, just let it be easier than this one, Sier thought to herself.

The officer in charge of the case was momentarily taken aback, and then quickly nodded. “I’ll have them sent over to WonderWild Zoo in three days.”

“Okay,” Sierra replied.

Sharon and her whole family were taken to the police station.

It was only then that Sierra learned that after the truth came out Sharon had not only locked Natalie up, but after finding out about her second chance, she even planned to sell Natalie off to some remote village where she’d be trapped with no way out, alive or dead.

Unluckily, Natalie overheard everything. When the maid brought her food, Natalie attacked her, grabbed all the gold and cash from Jimmy’s safe, and bolted.

The Sterling family didn’t dare call the police. If Sharon hadn’t completely lost her sanity, the cops would’ve never found out about any of this.

Sharon took all the blame herself, and the police arrested her according to the law.

Jonathan, Shawn, and Jimmy were all scrambling in total chaos, barely keeping it together.

Jimmy couldn’t help but scold Sierra, calling her a walking disaster.

But this time, Jonathan and Shawn were fed up. They said, “Sierra’s the real victim here. If you want to blame someone, shouldn’t it be David’s family-or even us?

“Mom messed up. At least she’s safe in prison now. If anything else happened, her heart probably wouldn’t be able to handle it.

“Dad, instead of blaming Sierra, you should focus on the company. Our partners are bailing on us one after another. If this keeps up, we’ll have to sell everything just to pay off the debts.”

After telling Jimmy off, the two brothers didn’t spare him a glance and just walked out, leaving him standing there with a face like he’d just swallowed a bug.

Even with Sharon locked up, it’d only be for a few months.

Plus, she wasn’t in any rush to leave anyway. Jonathan and Shawn figured it was better to just let her cool off for a while.

For a while, things were pretty quiet around the Sterling residence. Jonathan and Shawn kept showing up at work every day.

Honestly, they weren’t too bothered if the company went under. But with so many employees and families counting on them, they knew they couldn’t just leave everyone hanging.

Whether the place shut down or got bought out, they owed these people an explanation.

But the Paterson brothers were like wild dogs, never bothering with anyone else’s business. But the moment something was connected to the Sterling family, they’d swoop in and snatch it up.

Even if it was just spare change to them, they’d take it without breaking a sweat, not even needing to spend much time or

money.

Jonathan and Shawn tried to patch things up a few times, but Elliot just shut them down at dinner. “You think you’re even worth my time?

“However you bullied Sierra in your previous life, I’m going to make you pay for it in this one!”

The Sterling family’s business was in free fall.

They were so swamped with work that seeing Sierra wasn’t even on their radar. They practically lived at the office, barely stepping out for anything.

On Sierra’s side, everything was smooth sailing. Her relationship with Elliot was heating up and getting more serious by the day.

After the police opened a case, they delivered the bodies of 781 animals to WonderWild Zoo.

Based on Thomas’s recommendation, Sierra reached out to two famous masters who were trending all over the internet.

Vera Cooper was the daughter of the country’s richest man. The first time Sierra met her, she totally gave off that girl-next- door vibe, so adorable that Sierra almost wanted to pinch her cheeks.

But when Sierra asked her age, she was shocked to find out Vera was already twenty-four and had even finished grad school.

The other one was Lily Wynn from the Wynn family, who was just as carefree and easygoing, and the same age as Vera.

And as luck would have it, Lily’s boyfriend and Elliot had actually grown up together as best buddies.

Sierra hadn’t met either of them before, but as soon as the three got together, things instantly felt lively.

To be honest, it was all Vera’s energy driving the vibe.

She was always cheerful, greeting everyone with a bright smile.

Sierra had dropped 300 thousand dollars on the spiritual ceremony for the animals, so to Vera and Lily, she was basically a VIP client.

Vera gave Sierra a friendly pat on the shoulder. “Trust me, girl, I handle everything for you. No worries at all.”

There were just too many animals, so Sierra asked Vera and Lily if it was okay to cremate the remains. Once they said it was fine, she went ahead and had them cremated.

WonderWild Zoo had a special room set aside just for this, a mourning hall where, if an animal died from illness or natural causes and it was clear no one was to blame, their remains would be cremated and placed inside.

Up to now, not a single animal at WonderWild Zoo had died naturally or from sickness, but the wall in that room was already lined halfway up with urns.

The place was dark, with only a faint lamp and some candles flickering in and out. Every cabinet held urns, each painted with a different kind of animal.

Sierra had rushed online and hired a bunch of artists to get all these designs done in record time.

Natalie had killed so many animals, and after all these years, all that was left of most of them were scraps of fur and bare bones.

Sierra did her best to get the artists to recreate what the animals might have looked like. For those they couldn’t identify, they just used whatever remains they had to sketch out images of the same species.

Vera and Lily were about to perform the spiritual ceremony, and Sierra didn’t really understand the details. Honestly, it was just for some peace of mind.

But if this could really help those animals find some peace, then no matter how much it cost, it’d be worth it.

Vera and Lily looked a bit tired, but when they saw Sierra, Lily straightened up and said seriously, “Ms. Sterling, all the animals have rested in peace. You can relax now.”

Vera chimed in with a grin, “The little ones said they’re super grateful to you. They hope everything goes your way from now on, and they’ll be there to protect you.”

Sierra didn’t even stop to wonder if they were just being polite.

Instead, she just smiled and said, “As long as they can rest in peace, that’s good enough for me.”

Vera flashed a playful grin. “Leave it to the master, Sierra. Just kick back and relax!”

With that, Vera shrugged off her robe, stood on tiptoe, and threw an arm around Sierra’s shoulders.
