#Chapter 258 Saving the Day
Sierra’s last bit of drowsiness vanished in an instant.
She immediately said to the sparrows, “Fly as far away as you can right now. Don’t get anywhere near the hotel.”
With that, she turned to open the door.
But no matter what she did, the door wouldn’t budge.
In an instant, Sierra realized what was going on.
She’d really underestimated those people today. They were actually trying to silence her for good.
Sierra turned back into the room, grabbed her phone, and frantically started calling her teammates one by one.
The wildlife rescue team members snapped awake and hurried to check their doors and windows.
Ethan said, “My door’s locked.”
Sophie said, “Mine won’t open either.”
Mark said, “Same here.”
All seven of their rooms were locked.
Just then, Timothy sent a panicked voice message to the group. “Damn, I can see sparks in the hallway through the gap under my door. Do you guys smell smoke?”
Sierra immediately dropped to the floor to check.
Sure enough, heavy smoke was already creeping in under the door.
Right then, panicked screams rang out all over the building.
Outside was total chaos.

Chapter 258
Chapter 258
After Sierra time-travelled back, she had faced life-or-death threats more than once.
But this was the first time someone had come after her for revenge, up close and personal.
Sierra’s heart was racing, sweat was soaking her hairline, and the hotel’s fire danced in her eyes.
Everyone’s eyes were glued to the scene, not just Sierra.
But once the panic faded, the anger was burning in their eyes.

Timothy gritted his teeth. “These motherfuckers! If I don’t shut down that goddamn Darknet Animal Hub for good, I’m not a Keyes!”
He thought, ‘Killing us would’ve been enough, but now they have to drag innocent hotel guests into this?
‘They’re fucking lunatics!”
Sierra snapped back to reality when she heard Timothy’s outburst.
The firefighters were already battling the flames. After hearing the explosion, they rushed to evacuate everyone to safety.
Once the fire was out, they went into the hotel, which was half burned down, to see if anyone was hurt or if there were any bombs left behind.
Luckily, everyone was found in time. Some guests were out cold but their rooms hadn’t caught fire, which was a real blessing.
After Sierra and the crew finished up at the police station, Elliot had already gotten Connor to rent them a villa for the night.
After all that chaos, nobody from the wildlife rescue team could catch a wink.
It was almost dawn, so Elliot told Connor to go grab some breakfast.
Everyone was sprawled out on the villa’s living room couch, their faces still smudged with soot from the fire.
Sierra’s eyes felt dry, and Elliot suddenly got up, fishing out a bottle of eye drops from who-knows-where.
“Sierra, do your eyes hurt? If they’re still bothering you tomorrow, let’s get them checked out at the hospital,” Elliot said.
Sierra shook her head, but took the eye drops from Elliot anyway. She put in a couple of drops, and instantly her eyes felt way better. She passed it back to Elliot.
“We still have to head out to the desert tomorrow,” Sierra said.
Before Elliot could respond, Sierra suddenly said, “Elliot, we really owe you for this.”
“Just happened to be in the right place at the right time,” Elliot said quickly. “Our company’s been having trouble with a batch of jewelry lately.
“Turns out the issue was with the raw materials, and the diamonds were from Nymeria. I’ve actually been here for a week
now.
“Honestly, if I hadn’t run into you in the hallway after my meeting last night, I wouldn’t have even known you were here.”
Elliot wasn’t just trying to cover for himself.

It was like fate had set everything up just right.

He couldn’t be more relieved that he came to Nymeria himself, instead of sending Connor or some company exec.
He honestly didn’t know if Sierra and Sophie could’ve made it out on their own. People never really knew how things might
turn out.
So Elliot wasn’t about to take that risk.
So Elliot said, genuinely relieved, “I’m just glad you’re safe.”
Then he switched gears. “So, were those guys targeting you? Maybe you shouldn’t head into the desert just yet. There are plenty of mercenaries around here.
“I can have them handle those guys first, and then you and Sophie can go once it’s safe.”
Mercenaries were stone-cold killers. Those thugs might be vicious, but they were nothing compared to the pros.
Elliot thought his plan was brilliant.
“Elliot, we don’t have time,” Sierra said. “Bessa and the other desert lions are in serious danger. Right now, desert lions are like this year’s viral fashion item.
“Everyone’s scrambling for them, but there’s just not enough to meet the demand. Even if we take down these guys, more will just pop up. We have to get the lions to safety, and fast.”
Elliot only half got what Sierra meant.
Everything Sierra said made sense to him. “I’m still worried about you guys, but if I go with you, I’ll just hold you back. I’ll send my bodyguards with you.
“Just stay sharp out there. I’ll be waiting outside, ready to jump in if you need backup.”
Elliot never tried to play the hero.
He knew exactly where his strengths and limits were.
When it came to jewelry design, he was top three in the world. But when it came to animal rescue or thinking on his feet, he knew he was out of his depth.
Even Timothy, who was not exactly the sharpest tool in the shed could totally wipe the floor with him in a situation like this.
He was worried sick about Sierra, but if he tagged along, he’d just be dead weight. He might even get everyone else in trouble.
So Elliot decided to settle for the next best thing.
Having more people around was definitely better, so Sierra did say no this time.
Elliot stood up. “Sierra, once Connor gets back with breakfast, grab a quick bite and try to get at least two hours of sleep before you head out. Just be careful, okay?”
Sierra’s heart melted at Elliot’s concern.
“Okay,” Sierra said.
Everyone actually ate, and then crashed for four hours before finally heading out to the desert.
The local government took this seriously, too. As soon as they heard Sierra was going after the lions, they sent out over

Elliot’s crew was just as intimidating. Every single bodyguard was at least 6 feet tall, and people could feel the danger rolling off them from a mile away.
These weren’t just bodyguards. Elliot had handpicked a squad of mercenaries for this mission.
Elliot couldn’t care less about work right now. He set up camp on the very edge of the desert and said, “Sierra, you guys have the satellite phones I gave you, right?
“If you run into anything you can’t handle, just call me. No matter what, I’ll send a helicopter to get you out.”
Elliot had repeated this at least ten times on the way, but Sierra never got tired of hearing it. She just nodded sweetly every time. “Don’t worry, Elliot, I’ll definitely call you if anything comes up.”
Elliot almost broke into a goofy grin at that.
What he dreaded most was Sierra being all polite and distant with him.
Honestly, he wished she’d come to him for everything.
Elliot watched as a bunch of SUVs and a truck packed with supplies and fuel rumbled off into the heart of the desert.
He didn’t let out a soft sigh until the last vehicle disappeared from view.
Connor honestly couldn’t figure out why Elliot, who was so impressive, always seemed so unsure of himself.
He said, “Sir, Ms. Sterling really is something else.
“She came all the way from a small, unknown town to Northbel University, went from a nobody to a household name, and then gave up a skyrocketing career for her love of animals to become the director of a zoo.
“And now she’s rescuing wildlife all over the globe. She’s amazing, but you’re pretty incredible yourself.”
Elliot thought it over, and then asked, dead serious, “So what’s my advantage?”
“You… You…” Connor started, but just couldn’t find the words.
Connor just froze, completely blanking out.
Then he looked Elliot up and down, and suddenly his eyes lit up. “Sir, you’re rich! Come on, look at you. You built jewelry empire from the ground up, no family handouts, and now your company pulls in billions every year.
“How could you not be awesome?”
He thought, ‘Pulling in billions in pure profit-seriously, how many people in the world can say they’ve done that?
your
‘And the best part? Our boss is even hotter than any movie star. Rich and good-looking. If I were him, I’d be drinking the most expensive water every day.
‘But he is different. He always goes for the cheapest bottled water
Connor had never met a CEO this down-to-earth before.
