Chapter 279

Samuel moved like a whirlwind. Before Sierra could even blink, he was already in the car.

Seeing Sierra still staring straight at the wolves, Samuel was so worried.

He quickly waved at her. “Sierra, what are you standing there for Those are wolves. They’re vicious. We can’t take them on. Get in the car, quick.”

If he’d known those two dogs were actually wolves, he never would’ve gotten out of the car.

But Sierra just stood there, frozen. She even started walking toward the two wolves in the bushes.

Samuel almost fainted. He choked on his own words, unable to get a sound out.

But the thought of Sierra being in danger made Samuel realize that, even if his brain hadn’t gotten any sharper over the years, his courage was top-notch by now.

Then he remembered his sister said he’d be single for life, and not only that, he’d live to ninety-nine, making him the one with the shortest lifespan in his family.

His sister’s predictions were always freakishly accurate, so there was no way he could just stand by and let Sierra throw her life away.

Gritting his teeth, Samuel quickly got out of the car and rushed over to Sierra.

Sierra said, “It’s okay, Mr. Summers. I just want to check it out.”

Samuel gritted his teeth. “Check it out? Those are wolves, wild animals! What if one of them bites you? Do you really want to risk that beautiful face of yours?”

Then he lowered his voice. “Just because you’re not in the spotlight anymore doesn’t mean you should stop caring about your looks. If anything happened to your face, I’d be so upset that I couldn’t even sleep.”

Sierra was speechless as well.

After hanging out with Samuel for a while and getting used to his quirks, Sierra knew he meant well. Otherwise, she would’ve thought he was a total nutcase or some kind of weirdo.

Sierra looked over at Samuel, and then at the two wolves in the bushes.

The wolves had big amber round eyes. Where they’d looked fierce just moments ago, now their gaze turned gentle, and their tails looked like they might start wagging any second.

“Sierra?” Just then, a tentative howl broke the silence.

Then the other wolf started howling too, and soon their cries echoed back and forth, filling the air.

Now that everyone realized they were wolves, the crowd instantly freaked out. But their curiosity beat everything. Even though they were scared, they just shuffled back a bit, their eyes practically sparkling.

“Wait, those are wolves? They look just like dogs!”

“Hey, check it out, that wolf’s actually sticking its tongue out.”

“The wolves are coming out of the bushes, Actually, they do look kinda different from dogs.”

“So, does calling traffic cops even do anything? I mean, traffic cops aren’t exactly trained to handle wolves, right?”

The wildlife rescue team members grimaced when they overheard all the whispers around them.

Ethan, standing right beside Sierra, felt something was definitely off as he watched the wolves emerge from the bushes. Still, he and the others instinctively closed ranks around Sierra, making sure she was safely in the center.

After all, the wolves were already showing signs of aggression toward people, and no one could be sure if they might suddenly go after Sierra.

Seeing this, Samuel stopped pretending to be brave.

He figured that any one of Sierra’s crew could easily knock him flat, so without a second thought, he squeezed into their protective circle and ducked behind Sierra, putting on a tough face as he stared at the two wolves.

Though honestly, he was only acting brave because he had Sierra and the others to back him up.

But the wolves didn’t even bother glancing at anyone else. Their eyes were locked on Sierra, not blinking once. The moment they recognized her, their tails started wagging like excited puppies.

“Look! It’s really Sierra!” one wolf said.

“Sierra, I can’t believe it’s actually you! We thought we were just imagining things!” the other wolf chimed in.

But to the crowd, all they heard was a chorus of wolf howls echoing through the air.

Sierra glanced at everyone and reassured them, “No need to freak out. Looks like these wolves actually recognize me. They won’t hurt me.”

Sophie added, “Still, just be careful, okay?”

Sierra nodded. “Don’t worry, I will.”

With that, Sierra slipped past the others and stopped about 9 feet from the wolves.

That was asking for trouble.

Wolves could bite and leap like crazy. At 9 feet, Sierra was basically toast if they went for her.

Still, Sierra stayed cool as ever.

Her gaze was locked on the two wolves.

One of the wolves had a scruffy face with a patch of black fur right under its eye.

It looked oddly familiar.

Sierra tried to remember, but came up empty, so she just cut to the chase. “Do you guys know me?”

The two wolves nodded and wagged their tails excitedly.

“Sierra, do you remember the wolf pups from Mount Kaelenridge in Kashuk? You saved us back then! My dad always says, if it weren’t for you, my brother and I wouldn’t have died,” one wolf said.

The other wolf piped up, “Sierra, you had my dad help escort the Kaelenridge Sheep all the way to Lake Sylvenmir so they could have their lambs!”

She finally remembered who these two wolves were.

Her face lit up with surprise and joy. “It’s you guys!” Then she turned to the wildlife rescue team behind her and explained, “These two are the wolf king’s cubs we met back on Mount Kaelenridge.

“They’re the little wolves who helped us get the Kaelenridge Sheep safely to Lake Sylvenmir.”

The wildlife rescue team was just as shocked.
