When Sierra returned to the raccoon area, she acted as if nothing had ever happened.
She continued working hard on the tasks given by the production team, and at that moment, May arrived with Angel’s file from the rescue center.
Sierra looked through the file, which was mostly notes about Angel’s daily routine.
“They found it near the border of Sunsville and Yondeland,” May explained. “We think it might have gotten lost from its group.”
Something about the location seemed off to Sierra, and she frowned slightly.
Before she could think more about it, Natalie walked up with the camera crew, smiling warmly. “How’s your task going?” she asked.
Without waiting for an answer, Natalie went on, “I finished my task early. I know Angel pretty well, so I thought I could help.”
Sierra didn’t reply. The silence stretched, becoming awkward.
Natalie’s smile slowly faded, unable to hold up under the quiet.
Natalie wasn’t here to help. She was just here to check if Sharon had succeeded in getting Sierra to drop the lawsuit.
With Sierra saying nothing, Natalie couldn’t even find a way to broach the subject.
Natalie sighed, playing the role of the concerned sister. “You always have to do everything alone. It’s okay to let people help. I studied wildlife before coming here. I want to help you, Sierra.”
When Sierra didn’t answer, Natalie just walked over to Angel calmly. “Angel’s not always like this, you know. When I was with it before, it used to bark at me,” she said.
Meanwhile, in the live chat, viewers were already typing their reactions.
[Wait, I thought Sierra said raccoons bark when they’re upset?]
[This is awkward.]
[What is she doing? If the raccoon barked at you, that’s a bad sign, girl.]
Off camera, Natalie was reaching a hand toward Angel.
Sierra looked back and saw Angel’s fur stand on end as Natalie neared. Its vacant eyes turned sharp and dangerous.
Sierra’s face went pale. She rushed forward, but she was already too late.
As Natalie approached, Angel charged. It slammed her to the ground with a low, warning growl.

At that instant, a clear, girlish voice spoke directly into Sierra’s mind, “Your kind is worthless. I will end you.”
“Angel, stop!” Sierra yelled, darting between them with her hands raised.
Natalie lay trapped under its weight. She wasn’t injured, but she was paralyzed with fear.
Angel kept her pinned, its growl rumbling deep in its chest.
“Help! It’s lost its mind. It’s going to eat me,” Natalie screamed, thrashing wildly. “Somebody call the police,
now.”
She fought to get free, but it was useless. Angel’s amber eyes burned with a predatory gleam.
It roared in fury, and hot, thick saliva dripped onto Natalie’s skin.
The nearby staff saw the attack and immediately reached for their phones to call for help.
“Wait, don’t!” Sierra cried, turning to stop them. “Please, don’t call the police.”
One of the staff protested, his voice tense. “But she’s in danger. We have to do something.”
“I can handle this,” Sierra said firmly, her focus entirely on Angel as she softened her tone. “Just stay calm, Angel. We’ll talk this through, but you need to let her go first.”
Sierra didn’t care about Natalie, but if Natalie died because of Angel, she wouldn’t be able to save Angel from the consequences.
At the sound of Sierra’s voice, the fight drained from Angel’s eyes. It gave a low, pitiful whine.
“What’s wrong?” Sierra asked gently. “You can tell me what happened.”
Angel blinked, looking down at Natalie, who trembled in terror. A low, apologetic whine escaped its throat. “Sorry.”
A wave of relief washed over Sierra. She reached out slowly, and when Angel didn’t move away, she placed a steadying hand on its back. “It’s alright. I know you didn’t mean it.”
The anger seemed to seep out of Angel, leaving it visibly calmer and still.
Sierra turned off her microphone and dropped it to the ground. “Natalie’s life means nothing. You can end it if you want…”
The cold statement snapped Natalie back from the edge of panic. Fury replaced her fear. “Sierra, you’re out of your mind! You’re encouraging it to kill me?”
“Idiot,” Sierra replied, not bothering to look at her. She kept her focus on Angel and went on, “But if you do it, the police will hunt you down. Your life is precious. Hers is not worth throwing yours away.”
“But I can’t stand her.” Angel’s voice rose again, thick with emotion. “She smells like the humans who murdered my mother and sister.

“She would jab me with a stick when no one was watching, trying to make me perform for the cameras. But I never wanted any of it. I just want my family back. I want to go home.”
Angel was just over a year old, still a juvenile by any measure.
In Sierra’s mind, the voice was that of a frightened child, trembling and lost. The sound of it pulled painfully at her heart.
As Sierra listened, a quiet alarm began to sound in her mind.
Raccoons were strictly protected by law. For someone to harm one was unthinkable. The chilling possibility of poachers operating right here in Sunsville crossed Sierra’s mind.
