Chapter 281
Inside the van, there were five adults, a mix of men and women, spread out between the front and back seats. To everyone’s surprise, each one of them had a child in their arms.
“Sierra, that’s the kid we were talking about. The one in the passenger seat,” one of the wolves said.
Without hesitation, Sierra rushed over and threw open the passenger
door.
The woman holding the baby was startled, but then her expression twisted with annoyance. She snapped, “What the hell do you think you’re doing?”
Sierra’s eyes zeroed in on the baby, bundled up tight. She demanded, “Is this your kid?”
“Of course it’s mine! Who else’s baby would it be?” the woman shot back. She shifted protectively, moving to shield the baby from Sierra’s sight, making it clear she wasn’t about to let her get a closer look.
Sierra narrowed her eyes. “Ever since the crash, not a single one of the four kids in this van has said a word or cried. And now you claim the baby in your arms is yours? Who would beliee that?”
The woman’s face changed, her mouth hanging open in shock. “You… you…” Finally, she snapped in anger. “Mind your own business!”
She shot Sierra a warning glare.
But Sierra ignored her and, right in front of the woman, dialed 911.
The call connected, and the operator’s voice came through right away.
Sierra stared at the woman, her eyes cold, like she was giving the woman one last chance.
But as soon as the woman realized Sierra was calling the cops, her face twisted in panic and rage. She lunged to snatch Sierra’s phone, but Sierra locked her wrist in a vice-like grip.
Seeing their chance, the nearby wildlife rescue team members immediately snatched all four kids out of the van.
Mark glanced at the kid in his arms. It looked about three years old. Even with all that commotion, the little guy didn’t peep.
All the other kids were just as quiet.
“Sierra, these kids must’ve been drugged,” Mark said.
Sierra nodded and said to her phone, “Hi, there’s been a car accident about a half mile from the highway exit on Plasma- Drift Highway.
“There are several kids in one of the vans who seem to have been drugged. I suspect this is a case of child trafficking.”
The officer on the line said they’d arrive in ten minutes, and the hung up.
Now, both the shady group and the rubberneckers were totally thrown for a loop.
‘Wait, how did this suddenly turn into a trafficking mess?’ the onlookers were thinking.
But it was obvious something was off with those kids. With a crash that loud, any normal kid would’ve been crying their heads off, but these didn’t even stir. They were still fast asleep.
‘Don’t tell me they actually drugged the kids?’ they thought.

While the crowd was still trying to wrap their heads around the chaos, Samuel had already gone off on the woman who’d been fighting with Sierra. He was totally dominating her, not giving her a chance to fight back.
“So, you really are child traffickers, huh? You scumbags deserve burn in hell! And don’t think I’ll go easy on you just because you’re a woman, I’ll hit you all the same! Damn you, you soulless scum!” Samuel yelled furiously.
Samuel couldn’t care less if she was a woman. He hated child traffickers with every fiber of his being.
Sierra couldn’t even get there in time to stop him.
Still, she wasn’t surprised by how worked up Samuel was.
Samuel was Vera’s older brother, and Sierra knew Vera had been kidnapped when she was little. Their dad was so obsessed with finding his only daughter that he let the whole company go to hell.
Vera had even told Sierra that if she hadn’t made it back, the Summers family would’ve been finished.
Samuel knew firsthand how much pain losing a child could bring, so the moment he heard they were traffickers, he didn’t hesitate to curse them out and start swinging.
He’d lived through it himself. That’s why he hated it with passion
The woman was howling in pain inside the van as Samuel laid into her.
Of course, Samuel’s fighting skills were basically zero, so he got pretty banged up in the scuffle, too.
No one in the crowd tried to stop him. Sierra just watched from the sidelines and, without missing a beat, called for an ambulance.
They weren’t experts, so they couldn’t really tell if the kids were in any real danger.
Once everything was done, Sierra finally turned her attention to the two wolves.
The wolves piped up right away, “Sierra, here’s the thing. After we left Mount Kaelenridge, we had no clue where to go. We got lost so many times!
“Turns out, there are lots of nice humans out there. Some people were scared of us, but they thought we were just big dogs, so they gave us tasty treats.
“Once we got to Amberty, we couldn’t hunt anymore. We had to fight with the strays for a place to stay, but there were way too many of them.
“One time, my brother and I both got hurt, and it was pouring rain. We were a sorry sight. That’s when a young couple found us.
“We figured we needed a safe place to heal up, so when the couple mistook us for dogs, we decided to play along and act like regular dogs. Whenever we got the chance, we’d try to ask about WonderWild Zoo.
“Then the couple had a baby. The husband went to work, and the wife stayed home to nurse the little one. We basically became their bodyguards.
“But a few days ago, five people, men and women, suddenly burst into the house. My brother and I were downstairs, just minding our own business, so we missed the whole thing.
“But when they came down carrying the baby, we caught the scent and saw the wife chasing after them, screaming her lungs out. We didn’t think twice and just kept on their tail.
“We lost track of them a couple of times, but today, we finally got them cornered.”

The wolves’ noses were sharp. Newborn humans had a special scent. That’s how they managed to follow their trail all the way here.
