Ten minutes later, ten police cars left the smooth road and turned onto a mountain path. The ride got bumpier and bumpier.
Anderson sat next to Ryan, watching as Ryan was hammering away at the police laptop, his fingers flying over the keys.
In the next second, the code turned into a blue-green map, a tangle of white lines crisscrossing all over. Where the lines crossed, two red dots started flashing.
“Done!” Ryan said as he quickly slid the laptop over to Anderson.
Anderson stared in disbelief. “You mean you already found it?”
Ryan nodded. “It’s really not that difficult. AI is everywhere now. Some industries might resist it, but it can be super helpful.
“For example, you can turn the suspect’s statement into code and let the AI search through it. It’ll pull up what you need in no time.”
Amberty was loaded with mineral resources. There were over thirty mines just in the surrounding area, which made searching for the right one a real challenge.
But Ryan made it sound as simple as basic math.
Anderson was both shocked and a little jealous.
Honestly, nobody was useless around Sierra. Either they were total pros, or they were the kind of jack-of-all-trades who could handle anything.
Anderson clapped Ryan on the shoulder. “Bro, you’ve got real skills. Ever thought about working at the station?”
Timothy coughed to hide his embarrassment and said, “Anderson, that’s not fair. Trying to poach me right in front of Sierra? Ryan’s our team’s treasure! If you want talent, go find your own. Don’t try to steal ours!”
Alex added seriously, “Looks like Sierra’s gonna have to give Ryan a raise when we get back.”
Mark chimed in, “No worries. Cops don’t make much anyway. I’ve got a friend who pulls in five grand a month, but he spends three grand just buying snacks for his little sister.”
Anderson tried to defend himself. “Five grand a month isn’t bad right?”
Mark replied, “He’s the chief.”.
Anderson was speechless. He felt like someone had twisted the knife in his chest all over again.

A suspect was sitting next to Anderson. As the car bumped along the mountain road, Anderson glanced at the face was so pale that he looked ready to pass out. “Are we actually on the right road this time?”
The suspect managed a shaky nod. “Y-Yeah, this time it’s right.”
Right after that, the suspect slowly raised his hand.
Anderson didn’t catch on. “What’s up with you?”
The suspect opened his mouth and blurted out, “I’m gonna puke”

“Pull over! Pull over, now!” Anderson shouted.

The mountain road was a real bone-shaker, and the police cars bounced along for more than forty minutes. The thick forest gradually faded away, leaving nothing but barren hills.
Anderson couldn’t help but sigh. “I’ve lived in Amberty my whole life, and I never knew there was a place this desolate.”
The deeper they went, the less greenery there was.
All around, jagged rocks stuck out everywhere, with nets stretched out to keep the rocks from tumbling down.
The scenery kept shifting until the police cars finally rolled up to the gates of Fleming Mining Group.
Anderson grabbed his walkie-talkie. “All units, listen up! Leave one officer in Car One to watch the suspect. The rest of you, gear up and follow me into the mining facility.”
The case of the home invasion and child abduction was blowing up online, so the special task force had been given full authority. The search warrant had already been issued while they were still on the road.
As soon as they pulled up to the gate, Sierra spotted a mean-looking sheepdog. The moment it saw strangers, it started barking like crazy.
That barking quickly drew the attention of the whole security office.
The guard took one look at the cops and instinctively tried to run into the facility.
Sierra glanced over, gave Richie and Penny a quick pat on the head, and said, “Go get him.”
The gate was just a simple fence, and Richie and Penny just hopped over it. In seconds, they had the guard pinned to the ground.
The sheepdog next to them went absolutely nuts, barking even louder.
The sheepdog was letting out a whole string of canine curses, but Sierra gave it a merciless slap right across the head.
That slap made the dog suddenly dazed.
It stared blankly at Sierra, and just as it was about to bite, one look at Sierra’s icy gaze made its fierce snarl melt into a pitiful whimper. In the end, it just tucked its tail and acted like a proper obedient pup.
For whatever reason, the sheepdog instinctively apologized, “I’m sorry. Please don’t take it out on me.”
Sierra lowered her gaze. “I’ll give you one chance. You want it or not?”
The sheepdog nodded frantically. “Yeah! Yeah! I want it! Please!
Sierra asked, “How long have you been here? Ever seen any kids brought into this place?”
The sheepdog blurted out, “Yeah, yeah, tons! Not just kids, but loads of clueless men too. They all get dragged in here.”
Sierra blinked in surprise, “Men?”
Sierra’s alarm bells went off in her head. Something was seriously wrong here. She didn’t waste a second before telling Anderson.
But before anyone could wrap their heads around what was happening, the mine boss came running over in a hurry.
