WonderWild Zoo had undergone a total transformation.

Sierra noticed the animal enclosures had doubled in size, and all the facilities looked brand new, packed with tech she’d never even heard of before.

“System, what’s going on?” Sierra asked.

The familiar blue panel popped up in front of her.

At the same time, the System’s mechanical voice rang out. It said, [Host, you’ve completed the beginner quest. You’ve rescued 100 animals, and the System has upgraded successfully. This is your reward.]

Then, a few lines popped up on the blue panel: [Beginner Quest Rewards: 1. WonderWild Zoo’s grounds have expanded to twice their original size. 2. You’ve earned a one-time park upgrade.]

Sierra could barely contain her excitement when she saw the rewards.

She’d been worried about not having enough money to renovate the zoo, but it was like her prayers had been answered at the perfect moment. Every problem just vanished.

Sierra thought, ‘System, you’re the best.’

Sierra asked, “Any new quests? And what do I get if I complete another one?”

The System answered, [Advanced quests unlock at random. Your access level isn’t high enough yet, so I can’t reveal the rewards to you.]

Sierra didn’t feel let down at all. She thought, ‘With so many animals out there waiting to be rescued, the System is bound to upgrade eventually.

‘Who knows, maybe I will even get to upgrade the zoo’s medical gear. Then Quickie and the injured wolf could finally get the care they deserved.’

As soon as Sierra walked out of WonderWild Zoo, she rushed to call Henry, asking him to round up some folks to lend a hand.

Henry agreed right away.

After Sierra rescued over a hundred animals, she became a sensation in the wildlife conservation community. Even people from abroad had started to take notice.

Helping Sierra with something like this was no big deal for Henry at all.

Henry said, “Sierra, the leaders already heard about the whole Payton thing. They said they’ve got your back. No way are they letting you get pushed around.”

Sierra was taken aback, not quite sure what he was getting at. But soon enough, she realized exactly what he meant by “not letting her get pushed around.”

Even though the top dogs in Wildlife Conservation Association weren’t exactly loaded, they still had real influence.

Less than an hour later, more than a hundred news outlets were reposting a civil case from Aville’s police department.

At first, people online didn’t pay much attention, but then the police blew up the internet.

Not only did they call out a trending celebrity for instigating dog theft out of jealousy, but they even shouted out Sierra on Twitter, thanking her for her rescue work and saving over a thousand animals.

Sophie’s police department also publicly thanked Sierra for providing homes to thousands of stray animals.

At first, netizens couldn’t believe it until they realized that almost every official local media outlet had reposted posts from both local police departments.

A media account posted: [Thank you, Ms. Sterling, for all you’ve done for the little ones.]

Another posted: [Ms. Sterling, your compassion is inspiring.]

Netizens were totally blown away.

But it didn’t take long for the internet to go wild with guesses about which celebrity the police were talking about, the one who supposedly told someone to steal a dog.

One commented: [Was Sierra the one who lost her dog? She went looking for it, ended up at a slaughterhouse, found wild animal pelts there, and then they started investigating together?]

Another commented: [Sierra really does have a dog named Payton. He looks so dopey, like he’d chase after anyone with a piece of braised pork.]

Someone commented: [So, which celebrity was the one who told someone to steal the dog?]

One commented: [I’ve got a guess: Natalie.]

Another commented: [Come on, don’t go making stuff up. Nat’s way too sweet to ever tell someone to steal a dog.]

Someone commented: [Natalie, you’d better come out and clear the air. If it’s not true, hit them with a lawsuit!]

One of Natalie’s fans commented: [Seriously, why does everything always get blamed on Nat?]

Natalie’s fans were outraged, but with so many people tagging her, Natalie didn’t even dare to respond.

She hadn’t actually told Charles to steal the dog in those chat logs, but now Charles was swearing up down that it was all her idea. If this blew up online, there was no way she could shut down all the rumors.

Even though the Sterling family did everything they could to keep the rumors down, the second the police dropped a smirking meme under the comment “I’ve got a guess: Natalie”, Natalie’s fans went ballistic.

People online had been throwing out all kinds of guesses, but the police’s official account only responded under the Natalie comment. Just that one meme said it all; the truth was out.

Natalie could only watch helplessly as she lost a million followers in a single day. She barely slept a wink that night, and by morning, she had smashed up everything in her room out of sheer frustration.

She was consumed with hatred for Sierra.

The next morning, Natalie came downstairs pretending to be all heartbroken, with her eyes so puffy they looked like she’d been crying all night.

Seeing her like that, the Sterlings’ anger only grew.

At breakfast, Natalie was sobbing so much that she could barely breathe, not eating a single bite.

Shawn’s fork and knife made a screeching noise across his plate before he slammed them down hard on the table. He said, “Nat, don’t cry. I’ll go talk to Sierra today and get her to set the record straight for you.”

Shawn thought, ‘Sierra’s gone way too far this time. She’s making things unbearable for Nat.

Natalie’s eyes widened in shock for a second, tears streaking down her cheeks. She quickly ducked her head again, like she was hiding something she couldn’t talk about.

Jonathan sat off to the side, thinking way more deeply than the simple-minded Shawn.

Jonathan thought, ‘It is obvious Sierra is ready to go head-to-head with us. Forget asking her to post a clarification; if we push her too far, she might just bring up that whole mess about Nat’s birth parents again.

‘If things got to that point, Nat would be done for.”

With that in mind, Jonathan spoke with a commanding tone, “Shawn, you’re being too reckless. Let me

handle this.”

Shawn had always looked up to Jonathan, so he nodded without a second thought. He said, “Yeah, you should go. Back then, Sierra always did whatever you said. She’ll definitely listen to you.”

Sharon spoke up, “Jonathan, Sierra’s still young. She’s just come back, and seeing us spoil Nat so much probably makes her feel left out. Just talk to her gently.

“Tell her that if she owns up and tries to do better, we’ll still accept her into the Sterling family.”

Sharon hadn’t slept a wink last night either. She was disappointed in Sierra, no doubt, but after all, Sierra was her own flesh and blood. Once her anger cooled, she figured kids just needed a little patience and guidance.

Sharon thought, ‘If I can set Nat straight, I can do the same for Sierra.

Jonathan just gave a cool nod and said, “I know.”

The whole family kept chattering away, not even noticing Natalie sitting in the corner, head down, fake- crying with her eyes full of pure loathing.

She’d been sure that after everything Sierra had pulled, the Sterlings would have totally written her off. She never expected that even now, they still wanted to give Sierra a shot.
