Pip’s oxygen saturation and heart rate both dropped to zero.

Without a second thought, Sierra leaned over Pip, desperately performing chest compressions to stimulate its

heart.

Ethan and the others came to their senses, realized Sierra was doing CPR on Pip, and rushed over to help.

The mother elephant, sensing Pip had stopped breathing, pushed desperately through the crowd, its movements slow and dazed, until it reached its side.

Her trunk gently caressed Pip’s shattered limbs and sunken chest.

She kept calling out to her baby, her voice filled with longing, hoping against hope that he would answer her like before.

But Pip, drenched in blood, lay motionless and silent on the asphalt.

The mother elephant let out an agonized bellow that ripped through the crowd, sending a chill down everyone’s spine.

Sierra couldn’t afford to pause for even a moment.

Just then, after being silent for so long, the System’s voice suddenly echoed next to Sierra.

[The System is launching an advanced quest.]

[Quest One: Bring Pip back to life.]

[Quest Reward: Ultimate Vet Guide.]

The System’s quest came out of nowhere, making Sierra’s heart leap with hope.

Pip had almost stopped breathing, but the System suddenly issued a quest, which probably meant Pip wasn’t beyond saving yet.

Sierra’s forehead was slick with sweat, the drops streaming down her face, dripping from her chin onto Pip’s body.

Finally, Sierra saw Pip’s body begin to move again, just barely breathing,

In that instant, Sierra finally let out the breath she’d been holding and nearly collapsed from relief, Good thing Sophie was right there to catch her.

obvious she was suffering from heatstroke.

Sierra closed her eyes briefly, trying to steady herself.

Her emotions had been running wild, and giving CPR to an elephant was nothing like what she’d pictured. It was way tougher than she’d thought. Her hands were still trembling from the effort.

“I’m fine,” Sierra said, though her vision was spinning. She turned to Ethan. “Ethan, hurry and take Pip back to the rescue center with the staff for treatment. I’ll catch up soon.”

Ethan saw that Sierra wasn’t looking so good and nodded. “Pip’s oxygen saturation and heartbeat are slowly getting back to normal. Don’t worry too much. Just take your time coming over.”

Sierra nodded.

The staff moved fast, lifting Pip onto the rescue truck as quickly as they could.

The elephant herd started rumbling anxiously, and the mother elephant, desperate with worry, tried to chase after Pip.

There was a highway just down the mountain, and Sierra, afraid the herd might wander onto the road and cause an accident, rushed to block the lead mother elephant before she could go any further.

“We need to take Pip to the rescue center for surgery. I hope you all can wait here. No matter what happens, I’ll come back tomorrow and tell you how he’s doing, deal?” Sierra said.

Sierra stood before the towering herd of elephants, the mother elephant’s weary eyes staring intently at her.

Finally, the mother elephant let out a sharp, urgent cry.

Sierra had no idea what it meant, but she guessed it was some kind of secret signal between the elephants.

The standoff between Sierra and the elephant herd didn’t last long.

Less than three seconds after the mother elephant called out, the herd slowly and quietly slipped back into the bushes lining the road.

Once they had returned to their territory, the mother elephant called out again, her voice carrying a plea. “Miss, please save my child. We’ll be waiting for you here tomorrow.”

With that, the mother elephant led her herd away, vanishing from human sight.

Half an hour later, the local traffic cops managed to clear the mountain road. The truck driver, still bawling and causing a ruckus, was dragged away to the station.

Intentional or not, he was gonna pay the price for driving illegally.

But that was no longer Sierra’s concern.

The System’s progress bar was stuck at halfway, and Pip was still far from safe. After handling everything at the scene, Sierra rushed to the local protection station.

When she arrived at the surgery room, Alex and Timothy were waiting outside.

As soon as they saw Sierra and Sophie, Timothy quickly stood up. “Pip’s already in surgery. Its condition’s pretty stable now, Sierra. You don’t have to worry too much.”

Sierra finally felt a huge weight lift off her shoulders.

She was still dizzy and lightheaded. There was no way she could handle surgery right now, so she just stayed

outside to wait.

Seeing how rough Sierra was feeling, Sophie turned and left, coming back a moment later with a box of remedies for heatstroke.

Sierra saw what it was, didn’t say a word, popped in the straw and drank it down, her expression unreadable.

That night, Pip’s surgery was finally over.

Ethan, Mark, and the local experts stepped out of the operating room.

Sierra quickly stood up, her eyes fixed on Ethan.

“Pip’s surgery went really well. If he can make it through tonight, he’ll be out of danger,” Ethan said.

“That’s awesome,” Sierra let out a long sigh of relief. “I’ll keep an eye on Pip tonight; otherwise, I won’t get any sleep.”

Everyone knew Sierra was way too worried about Pip to rest. Even if they told her to take a break, she wouldn’t be able to sleep anyway.

Seeing that she looked much better than before, Ethan just let her do as she wished. “Alright, there are other staff keeping an eye on Pip’s vitals too. If you get tired, make sure to take a break.”

Sierra nodded.

Since Sierra wasn’t leaving, Sophie naturally stayed behind too.

Sophie didn’t know the first thing about wildlife rescue, so she just hung around, watching Sierra take care of Pip and helping out whenever she could.

After finishing up, Sierra saw that Pip’s vitals were finally stable.

By the middle of the night, she couldn’t fight off the exhaustion any longer; she just plopped down on the floor, leaned back against the wall, and drifted off for a quick nap.

Payton, never causing any trouble and always quietly keeping Sierra company, curled up right beside her, serving as her makeshift pillow.

At six in the morning, Sierra, who’d barely gotten an hour of sleep, was startled awake by the System’s robotic

voice.

At the sound of the System’s voice, Sierra’s eyes shot open, startled awake.

The only sound in the room was the steady beeping of the medical equipment, while every now and then, the laughter and chatter of the rescue center staff drifted in from outside.

Sophie was wide awake. She’d pulled more all-nighters than she could count back when she was a cop, so she’d been watching over Sierra all night.

The second Sierra’s eyes fluttered open, Sophie was instantly alert.

She watched as Sierra got up from the floor and walked over to Pip.

Just as Sophie was about to say something, she saw Sierra’s lips, usually set in a cold line, suddenly light up with a smile.

Then Sophie followed Sierra’s gaze and saw Pip’s soft trunk give a little twitch.

The next second, Pip’s weak voice filled the room.

Sophie couldn’t help but turn to look at Sierra.

Sierra barely got any sleep all night. Her eyes were puffy and bloodshot.

As soon as Pip opened its eyes, Sierra couldn’t hold back anymore. A single tear trickled down her face.
