When Thomas heard that the zoo was about to welcome its very first baby elephant, he was positively glowing with excitement.
He personally designed and prepared the future elephant enclosure, then planted sugarcane seedlings all around the perimeter.
After Sierra got back, she took a long nap and finally felt recharged.
Realizing she’d skipped her scheduled stream yet again, and since she didn’t need to head out, she decided to start an impromptu live session right then and there.
Meanwhile, cat and dog parents all over the internet had heard about this insanely popular pet communicator who was supposedly spot-on every single time. Everyone was scrambling for a chance to get a session with her.
With her popularity, people figured she’d be streaming non-stop, twenty hours a day if she could.
But after camping out in her channel for days, they realized she hadn’t gone live for a whole nine days.
Her profile clearly said she streamed once a week, and if she couldn’t make it, she would give everyone a heads-up.
And when everyone checked her streaming history, they were shocked.
Seriously, she only streamed twice this month.
‘Does she even care about all this insane fame and fortune?’ they wondered.
No matter how desperate all the pet parents were, Sierra just kept ignoring them all, so everyone ended up camping out in her channel every single day, hoping she’d finally go live.
No sooner had Sierra started her stream than thousands of viewers swarmed in.
The pet parents were spamming her with gifts like crazy, as if she might vanish at any moment. Honestly, it looked like she was getting even more than the insane haul from her very first stream.
Sierra gulped and quickly said to the chat, “Sorry, everyone, I’ve been out in the field doing rescue work these past few days, so I couldn’t stream on time.”
She thought people would complain, but the chat was super understanding. There were just a couple of haters, but Sierra pretended not to see them.
“Alright, same as always, twenty call-in slots, and I’ll pick randomly,” Sierra said.
With that, she opened up the call-ins.

Once again, the call-ins were jam-packed, and Sierra randomly picked a user whose profile pic was a beagle with those classic raccoon eyes.
As soon as the call connected, Sierra saw a young girl on screen, looking totally exhausted and at her wits’ end.
Behind her, that beagle with the raccoon eyes was standing on the couch, barking like crazy.
But in Sierra’s ears, it sounded like the beagle was trying to sing.
Yeah, not a single note was anywhere close to the right tune.
Just then, the girl spoke up, her voice totally drained. “You’re not imagining things, Sierra.
“This dog goes absolutely nuts barking every single day. Because of him, I’ve had to move three times in the past three months, and today my neighbors complained about me again.”
As she spoke, she tilted her head back, fighting back tears, and let out a long sigh. “Sometimes I honestly wonder if I should just throw in the towel and go down with it.”
As soon as she said that, the chat blew up, everyone telling her to calm down.
[Don’t throw your whole life away for a dog.]
[Miss, I feel you. I have a beagle, too. These dogs are born crazy. I swear.]
[You’re a good person, but your dog is a handful.]
[Why are you all so mean to beagles? They’re actually pretty cute.]
[Hey, open your door, I’ll ship my beagle straight to you.]
The girl glanced at the chat’s comforting words and sighed, totally defeated. “Honestly, I really did think about just giving up with him.
“Buddy’s a rescue. When I first brought him home as a puppy, he was super sweet and well-behaved, and didn’t even have those eyeliner markings yet. But once he got comfortable here, that’s when all hell broke loose.”
“The first sign something was off was when he started raiding the cat’s poop,” she said.
She paused, glanced at the chat, and said seriously, “Yep, he never skips a single serving of cat poop. But honestly, that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Wait till you hear what comes next.”
She continued, “I get up at five every morning to walk him, and then again at seven after work. But no matter what, he absolutely refuses to do his business outside.
“He always saves it right in front of the door. Every single time my boyfriend and I open it, his poop gets smeared in a fan shape across the floor as the door swings open.”
The beagle seemed to know his owner was talking about him and instantly cocked his head, giving her a look.

If the girl hadn’t just exposed all his mischief, everyone in the chat would be losing it over how insanely cute this dog looked.
But it was not like this.
The girl let out a long sigh. “I’ve made my peace with it, I mean, I took him in, and yeah, I ended up total little menace, but it’s not like I’d ever just give him up.

“I was hoping you could maybe talk to him, see if you can get him to chill out a bit. Honestly, if things keep going like this, he’s gonna drive me off the deep end before he ever settles down.”
Sierra and everyone in the chat were stunned.
[Oh my god, Buddy looks so sweet and innocent. Nope, my door’s staying welded shut.]
[Just hearing her whole story, you can really feel how suffocating it is for her.]
[Beagle owners, seriously, you guys deserve a medal for putting up with all this.]
[Does anyone want a beagle? I’ll just gift mine to my advisor.]
[My little rascal sleeps like an abuser and shreds the blanket into pieces.]
Sierra was genuinely stunned. Sure, she’d heard all the horror stories about how Beagles are a total handful, but this was the first time she’d actually witnessed the chaos up close.
“Can I talk to Buddy?” Sierra asked.
When the beagle heard someone calling him, he cocked his head and gazed earnestly into the camera with those dramatic raccoon eyes.
When he spotted Sierra, his eyes grew even wider.
“Whoa, Pretty lady, I think you’re stunning. Were you just talking to me?” he barked excitedly.
Sierra nodded, her voice soft and warm. “That’s right. Your owner says you’re always misbehaving. Can you tell me why?”
The beagle kept his head cocked to the side, looking a little puzzled.
He let out another one of those goofy barks. “I’m not being bad, though.”
“But your owner says you’re always being super rowdy,” Sierra said softly.
The beagle just looked even more puzzled, then glanced back at his owner.
“I’m not being bad. I really love my owner. If it wasn’t for her, I wouldn’t even be here anymore, I’d be gone with my mom,” he said.
The beagle paused, then started to reminisce. “My mom always said the world outside is super lively, and I should go out and have a blast, go wild, go crazy, just let loose and enjoy everything.

“My owner is awesome, she takes me out even before it’s light out, and again at night. She’s seriously the absolute best human ever.”
Sierra fell silent for a moment.
Then she looked at the owner and asked directly, “You said you rescued the beagle. Did you get him out of the lab?”
The girl nodded eagerly. “That’s right. Buddy was a research dog. He was going to be put down because they didn’t need him for experiments anymore.
“When I saw the message in our group chat, I knew I had to adopt him.”
The beagle barked from the side, tail wagging like crazy. “Yep, yep. My owner is the best ever.
“And my mom always told me, beagles who get a second chance have to live extra wild for all the ones who didn’t make it, so I’m gonna have as much fun as I can.”
Sierra’s chest tightened up, and for a long while, she was completely at a loss for words.
It wasn’t until the girl asked, “So what did Buddy just say?” that Sierra snapped back to reality.
Sierra looked at the camera and said, “Buddy says he loves you so much and thinks you’re the best owner ever. He’s still young and bursting with energy, and that’s part of why he’s so mischievous.
“But more than that, he wants to make every day count; he’s living life not just for himself, but for all the beagles who never got the chance to see this beautiful world.”
Seeing the girl and everyone in the chat looking confused and stunned, Sierra explained, “Every year, tens of thousands of dogs get sent to labs all over the world.
“Beagles are the top pick because they’re super gentle and their bodies are really similar to humans. Seriously, almost every lab dog you hear about is a Beagle, like, 98% of them.
“Beagles spend their whole lives giving themselves for humans, and all the stuff they’ve helped with is still making our lives better, even now.”
