Chapter 78

FX at Jaichiers

Bradley stood in front of Sierra, his eyes burning with urgency, desperate to know the answer.

Sierra’s lips curled into a faint smile as she stood just a step away from him. She asked, “You want to know?”

Bradley’s eyes widened, but he didn’t say a word. His gaze said it all.

Sierra let out a cold laugh, her voice as icy as the biting wind on Mount Kaelenridge at night. She said coldly, “Maybe in your second life.”

As soon as she finished speaking, Bradley was escorted into the police car.

Every last member of the poaching ring targeting Kaelenridge Sheep on Mount Kaelenridge was finally brought to justice.

At the police station, Sierra was allowed to sit in on the interrogation with the officers: a rare exception.

The poaching ring consisted of eight members, and during the search, the cops found over eight hundred Kaelenridge Sheep pelts and several carcasses in the car.

Each of the eight suspects was locked up in a separate interrogation room.

Bradley was the first to be questioned.

Realizing there was no way to hide it anymore, Bradley confessed to everything without holding back.

But he kept trying to justify himself. He said, “I had no idea things would get this bad. I just wanted to help put my kids through college.”

The officer slammed his hand on the table, barely holding back his anger. He snapped, “Are you really that ignorant of the law? Don’t hide behind your family. Out of all the excuses, you chose this? What kind of college tuition costs tens of millions?”

Lies told in a panic never hold

Bradley was completely shut down, unable to say a word.

Sierra sat off to the side and said coldly, “You were planning to pull off one more job, but when we showed up and found the Kaelenridge Sheep carcasses, you and the others had no choice but to run deep into Mount Kaelenridge to hide.

“Let me guess. You were just waiting for the cops to stop watching the Kaelenridge Sheep before you tried to move the car, right?”

Bradley’s head snapped up.

He thought, ‘Wait, weren’t those the exact things I talked about with my guys? How does Sierra know all this?

‘Wait a second…

Suddenly, he remembered the eagle that had been circling overliead earlier.

The thought made his skin crawl. Sweat beaded on his forehead’ as he stared at Sierra, fear written all over his face.

Crushed by the intense pressure and terror, Bradley confessed everything, leaving nothing hidden.

Within a day, all eight poachers were handed over to the higher authorities at the prosecutor’s office.

In Hustralia, the harshest sentence they’d get wouldn’t be the death penalty. Just a little over ten years behind bars, and then

they’d be out.

It was hardly fair to the Kaelenridge Sheep that died so miserably.

Sierra walked out of the police station and quickly texted Thomas and Henry.

Law was just morality one could see, and morality was law one felt. Neither stayed the same forever.

Sierra thought, ‘Just a decade in prison for slaughtering so many Kaclenridge Sheep? That is nowhere close to justice!

Her fight was to tip the scales of justice back where they belonged, no matter how far they’d slipped.

Sierra thought, ‘I won’t let this go’ Determination flashed in her eyes as she turned away.

White doves soared beneath the crimson flag, the giant police emblem catching the sunlight and shining like a promise.

On the pristine white wall, bold letters declared: [The police keep the peace, guarding every home and every light.]

Sierra thought, ‘I will protect the peace for the animals.’

Sierra returned to the Kaelenridge Conservation Center.

Now that the poachers were behind bars, the most urgent thing was to help the Kaelenridge Sheep reach Lake Sylvenmir to give birth.

As soon as Sierra got back, she called the team together for a meeting to figure out how to track down the Kaelenridge Sheep herds and guide them back to their original migration route.

“Sierra can talk to animals, and she’s got this natural way with them. Getting the Kaelenridge Sheep to trust us shouldn’t be a problem,” Ethan said.

Sierra nodded and said, “Ethan’s right. The most important thing now is to find the migrating Kaelenridge Sheep herds. This mission could take a while, so we need to make sure we have enough supplies.”

At the Kaelenridge Conservation Center, there were only four staff members on duty besides Quinn. The signal out here was spotty at best, and hardly anyone ever bothered to come this far out.

That lack of manpower made it easy for the poachers to take advantage of the situation.

They spent the whole night hashing things out, making sure every detail was covered before finally getting ready to head

out.

“Wait, I’ve got a suggestion I’d like to discuss with everyone,” Sierra suddenly said, hesitating a bit as if she’d just thought of something.

Ethan said, “Just say it, Sierra. If it sounds reasonable, you know we’ve got your back.”

The rest of the team nodded along.

Timothy shot his hand up like a kid in class. He said, “Yeah, Sierra, go ahead. Whatever it is, we’re with you!”

As soon as he finished, he got a solid whack on the back of the head, just like always.

Ethan shot him a look, exasperated. He said, “Act your age.”

Timothy might look like a total goofball, but he was actually a legit PhD student.

But just standing there, he might as well have “dummy” written on his forehead. Who’d believe he’s a PhD student?

Timothy clutched his head, looking all pitiful. He grumbled, “What am I supposed to do? Sierra’s the heart and soul of our team. Next to her, I’m straight-up a rookie.”

Timothy was a total debate genius. He left Ethan completely speechless.

“Suit yourself,” Ethan said with a resigned sigh.

Timothy, realizing he’d actually out-argued Ethan, instantly got smug.

Ethan kicked at Timothy, his face full of disbelief.

Timothy zipped behind Sierra and flipped Ethan off, grinning like a troublemaker.

Seeing Ethan about to pounce, Timothy hurriedly blurted out, “Sierra, just say it already, or Eeef’s gonna kill me!”

In just a few minutes, Timothy had already slapped a new nickname on Ethan.

Sierra thought, ‘No wonder Timothy always ends up getting whacked!

Sierra cleared her throat and said, “Whether it’s the polar wolves in Coliburg or the Kaelenridge Sheep this time, these poaching incidents always catch us off guard.

“So yesterday, I was thinking: why not go live and show everyone online what wild animals are really up against out here? It might even give those poachers a wake-up call.”

“Streaming?” Ethan echoed, mulling it over. He said, “Honestly, that’s a solid idea. If we can get more people online to pay attention to what wild animals are dealing with, that’d be even better. Only problem is, none of us have ever tried livestreaming before.”

“If everyone’s cool with it, let me be the one to go live,” Sierra said.

After a pause, Sierra thought about the conservation center and added, “If we ever do another livestream in the future, I’m planning to donate every cent we make directly to the local conservation center

Most conservation centers in Hustralia, and honestly, all over the world, were barely scraping by, never really turning a profit.

Even with Hustralia’s rising status and all those government grants, just organizing a single patrol up the mountain could cost tens to hundreds of thousands, sometimes even more.

Most of the staff at these conservation centers were paid next to nothing, yet they risked their lives every day.

The money from a single livestream might not be much, but at least it could help the local conservation center weather the current difficulties.

When Sierra said that, nobody on the team could possibly disagree

Timothy kicked himself and groaned, “Damn it, why didn’t we think of livestreaming back when we were in Coliburg?”

He thought, ‘Man, we must’ve missed out on a fortune.

Timothy let out a dramatic screech.
