Chapter 83
Chapter 83
The little Kaelenridge Sheep blinked its big eyes and went quiet.
Without even thinking, it dropped to its knees and crawled over to the wolf, mumbling anxiously, “I’m just a kid. There’s hardly any meat on me. Please don’t eat me.”
The more it thought about its doomed fate, the sadder the little Kaelenridge Sheep got, until it just couldn’t hold back and started bawling.
The wildlife rescue team was just speechless, totally shocked.
The livestream chat exploded with question marks. Everyone was just dumbfounded.
The wolves were just silent, not knowing what to say.

One viewer in the livestream commented: [What’s the little Kaelenridge Sheep doing? Is it trying to defeat the enemy with its cuteness or something?]
Another commented: [Why didn’t Sierra hold the little Kaelenridge Sheep tighter? Seriously, I can’t with this!]
Someone commented: [How is this Sierra’s fault? Kaelenridge.Sheep are surprisingly strong, and she’s not a mind reader. How was she supposed to know the little one would jump out of her arms?]
They’d never seen a Kaelenridge Sheep so hopelessly clueless in their lives.
This had to be the first one ever to literally volunteer itself as a snack.
But the wolves didn’t seem interested in the little Kaelenridge Sheep in the slightest.
They saw the wildlife rescue team and watched the little one leap out of Sierra’s arms, so even though this clueless kid was being so out of line, they didn’t just go for its throat right then and there.
Wolves were highly intelligent animals.
They were clever, alert, and one of the few species in the animal world that really stuck together and cooperated.
The alpha wolf stood right in the middle, its golden eyes just staring at Sierra in silence, then rumbled a warning deep in its throat.
Sierra didn’t need to translate. One look at its tucked tail and bristling fur, and everyone could tell the alpha was basically telling them to get lost.
Sierra handed her phone to Mark and said to the group, “The wolves are acting weird. Mark, you keep the livestream going. The rest of you, stay here for now.”
Mark nodded and said, “Got it. Be careful.”
Ethan glanced at the wolves, who looked like they were about to pounce, and lowered his voice. He said, “Be careful. Wolves are super territorial. If anything feels off, just run back here.”
Sophie quickly chambered a round and said, “I’m right behind you.”
Sierra nodded, and the two of them stepped forward.
With every step Sierra took, the tension in the wolf pack ramped up, like they might lunge at her any moment.
The little Kaelenridge Sheep thought Sierra was here to rescue it, and was totally overwhelmed with gratitude.

Chapter 83
It cried, “Sierra, you’re amazing. Even now, you’re still coming to save me?”
Sierra was speechless.

She honestly just wanted to tell the little Kaelenridge Sheep she was only here because the wolves were acting off, and she wanted to figure out what was up.
But seeing the little Kaelenridge Sheep looking so pitiful, Sierra couldn’t help but feel her heart melt a little.
Sierra edged closer until there were fewer than ten steps between her and the wolves.
The wolves and the humans faced off. Except for the wind whipping, nobody dared to make a sound, not wanting to shatter the tense silence.
The livestream viewers were on the edge of their seats, hearts pounding.
One commented: [Is wildlife rescue really this hardcore now? Just walking right up to save a Kaelenridge Sheep?]
Another commented: [Seriously, what’s the big deal? Ever watched those nature documentaries? The photographers get right up in the animals’ faces for close-ups. This is nothing compared to that.]
Someone commented: [But shouldn’t Sierra just let nature do its thing? If she saves the Kaelenridge Sheep, isn’t that breaking the laws of nature?]
One commented: [The wildlife rescue team didn’t step in when the wolves were hunting earlier, so they’re clearly respecting the rules of the wild. And Sierra just said the wolves are acting weird, so she’s just going to check it out.]
Someone commented: [The way those wolves are looking is seriously scary. This is the first time I’ve really felt how dangerous Sierra’s job is.]
One comment read: [You never see it in the news, but so many wildlife rescue workers have died out there in Coliburg every
year.
[It’s only because gear and legal awareness have gotten better these past few years that poaching isn’t as crazy as before, and their work’s gotten just a little bit safer.]
The wolves kept a close, wary eye on Sierra, but never dared to attack her.
Part of it was her aura: something about Sierra just kept them from even considering going after her.
The other reason? Sophie was right behind Sierra, aiming a massive Truth rifle straight at them.
They simply didn’t dare to make a move.
The alpha wolf threw its head back and howled, “We don’t want to be enemies with humans. That little fool doesn’t interest us, but this female Kaelenridge Sheep, we have to take her back.”
Sierra was caught off guard when the alpha wolf was the first to break the silence.
“I won’t interfere with the laws of nature. But I am curious. Why are you taking a female Kaelenridge Sheep back with you?” Sierra called out, her words drifting on the wind to the wolves.
The wolves looked stunned for a moment, then one of them threw its head back and let out a long howl. Instantly, the rest joined in, their howls rising together in the wind.
One wolf exclaimed, “Wait, did that human just understand what our alpha said?”
Another said, “That means our wolf pups might be saved!”
Chapter 83
A wolf said, “That’s great.”
As the wolves chatted among themselves, Sierra quickly picked up on what was happening, She thought, So that’s it. The wolves aren’t trying to eat the female Kaelenridge Sheep at all. They need her milk for their hungry wolf pups!
After all, the mother Kaelenridge Sheep’s udder was visibly swollen, heavy with milk. Anyone could see she was nursing.
Sierra called out, “Are your wolf pups going hungry because something happened to their mother?
The alpha wolf didn’t hesitate. Right now, this human seemed like a better bet than the female Kaelenridge Sheep. It replied, “Yes.”
Before Sierra could respond, the alpha wolf continued, “If you can save our wolf pups, we’ll release these two Kaelenridge Sheep.”
For the wolves, it was a smart trade, definitely worth it.
With hardly any old wolves in the pack, and most of them young, strong, and expert hunters, letting a couple of Kaelenridge Sheep go was no loss at all.
But the wolf pups were their hope for the future. The pack needed them to survive, no matter what.
What the alpha wolf and its pack didn’t even notice was how their guard around Sierra was quietly slipping away. In fact, they were starting to get a little anxious.
They thought, ‘What if this human, who somehow makes us feel so comfortable, ends up saying no to our request?
The alpha wolf added, “And if you want more sheep, we can catch some for you. Just help our wolf pups out.”
The whole pack howled in agreement.
One said, “As long as you save our wolf pups, we’ll catch even more Kaelenridge Sheep and bring them to you!”
Another chimed in, “We’ll give you anything you want. Those jerboas are kinda cute, aren’t they? If you want, we’ll go grab some from their burrows and bring one for you and your buddy!”
Sierra was speechless.
The Kaelenridge Sheep and the jerboas grumbled inwardly, ‘Seriously? Are they trying to suck up by putting us on the chopping block? What a bunch of jerks.
But the Kaelenridge Sheep and the jerboas, just spectating from their burrows, could only roast the wolves in their minds No way were they brave enough to say it out loud.
Watching the wolves trying so hard to suck up to her, Sierra instantly pictured Payton, her dog, pulling the same cute begging routine for snacks.
She thought, ‘No kidding, it’s exactly the same!
Sierra glanced at the two Kaelenridge Sheep surrounded by the wolves and said, “I can help you save your wolf pups, but you not only have to let the mother and her baby go, but you also need to make a deal with me
