Beast Tamer's Rebirth National Treasure Edition novel Chapter 84

Chapter 84

Sierra berkound to the alps well

The wild dudes hesitate for second. After glaring back at its pack, it strode over to Sierra, ears priced and heart Seaning in closer to her

Sierra said, “If you want to save the wolf pups, then help us protect the Kaelenridge Sheep and make sure they get to Ler Sylvenmar safely so they can give birth

The alpha wolf didn’t even pause. It agreed instantly, “Yes”

So if we get hungry along the way, how many sheep can we snack on the alpha wolfasked, dead serious.

The alpha did come quick calculating

There were fourteen adult wolves and four elders in its family. He’d take eight wolves to escort the Kaelenridge Sheep

Eight wolves could finish off two sheep a day, and that would keep them fed for two days. So, all told, they’d only need to eat seven or eight sheep.

Part when he glanced up, Merra was giving him a long, meaningful look.

The alpha wolf tilted his head, confused. He asked, “What? You think we’re asking for too much? We can cut back a little, but wwe still need at least 1.5 sheep each time.

And let’s be real, half a sheep isn’t going to make it anyway, so we might as well eat the whole thing I know you humans are all about saving resources, but don’t worry, we won’t waste a bite

After saying, that, the alpha wolf thought he was being super comiderate.

Sierra sighed deeply, a bit exasperated. She said, “We’ll give your pack fresh beef or lamb, but while we’re taking the Karlenridge Sheep to Lake Sylvenmir, you’re not allowed to eat them”

The wildlife rescue team was short-staffed, so having, the wolves around would not only scare off other animals but also lead the Karlenridge Sheep to follow the main group just to stay safe.

Wolves were at the top of the food chain in Coliburg, so with them escorting the Kaelenridge Sheep, the chances of the sheep dying, would drop significantly.

Just lay at the sheep during the trip, alright? After that, how you live is your own business, Sierra added

The alpha wolf tooked a bit confused, but nodded anyway

Having humans provide meat was definitely a good deal

“Alright, but we don’t want sheep meat. It’s too gamey If these Kaelenridge Sheep weren’t the easiest to catch, we wouldn’t even care to eat them; the alpha wolf said.

The Kaelenridge Sheep were speechless.

They thought, Seriously, you wolves are something else!

After Sierra and the alpha wolf struck a deal, Sierra walked over to the female Kaelenridge Sheep that was being held by the wolves.

The female Kaelenridge Sheep gazed at Sierra, her eyes brimming with admiration

Sat,

Seeing the look in her eyes, Sierra reassured her. “As soon as we finish rescuing the wolf pups, we’ll make sure you all get safely to Lake Sylvenmir.”

The female Kaelenridge Sheep said, “Thank you.”

Sierra said. “Let the Kaelenridge Sheep up on the cliff know to come down. We’ll be back in a bit.”

The female Kaelenridge Sheep replied, “Sure thing.”

Sierra glanced over at the little Kaelenridge Sheep nearby, who was also gazing at her with the same adoring look. She thought, ‘Like mother, like daughter. Those matching expressions-seriously, it’s uncanny!

Sierra had no clue what was up with the wolf pups, but seeing how worked up the wolves were, she didn’t bother asking and simply hurried after them to their den.

When Sierra arrived, she saw two scrawny wolf pups slumped weakly in the den. At the sound of her footsteps, they tried to lift their heads, but every time they made the effort, their heads just drooped back down, too exhausted to hold them up.

The alpha wolf explained, “My mate Luna bled out during labor and passed away a week ago. There are no other mothers with milk in our pack, and none of the mothers in the nearby packs would accept my pups.”

He tried giving them blood from different animals, but every time, the pups just ended up puking and having diarrhea, and things only got worse.

Without milk, those two little pup’s wouldn’t survive.

The alpha wolf’s voice was low and desperate as he pleaded, “Please, I’m begging you. Save them.”

Sierra checked the wolf pups with a thermometer and some test strips for viruses. When she saw they had no major health issues, she breathed a sigh of relief.

She told the alpha wolf, “The pups are just mildly malnourished.”

The alpha wolf let out a sigh of relief, but as he looked at the pups, who were barely hanging on, his worry didn’t fade. He asked, “Are they going to be okay?”

Sierra replied, “They’re just about to starve to death.”

The alpha wolf looked completely defeated.

He thought, ‘How does this human say something like that with such a straight face?’

Sierra noticed the worried look in the alpha wolf’s eyes and asked Alex and Timothy to grab some goat’s milk powder from the trunk of the car. They mixed it with water in a bottle and fed it to the two wolf pups.

The wolf pups grabbed the bottle and drank hungrily. In no time, one could actually see their tiny bellies putting up.

Sierra was careful not to let them overeat, so when the little guys looked halfway satisfied, she pulled the bottle away.

The wolf pups perked up a bit, their big amber eyes fixed on Sierra, full of longing. Their heads were still too weak to hold up properly, but they kept trying, desperate to get a better look at her.

They glanced at the alpha wolf, then back at Sierra. Finally, with wobbly little steps, the two pups made their way over to Sierra, determined. They called out, “Mommy.”

Sierra had been called “Mommy” by little animals so many times, she didn’t even blink anymore.

But since the wolf pups were so frail, she made sure she was completely sanitized before feeding them, doing everything she could to keep germs away from the little ones.

So she refrained from touching them. Instead, she crouched down beside the wolf pups, with a gentle look, and explained. “I’m not your mommy. Your mommy…”

She remembered what the alpha wolf had told her: that their mother had died during childbirth.

The rest of the words stuck in her throat, so she just said, “Just call me Sierra.”

The two wolf pups weren’t having it.

They thought, ‘Mommy is the prettiest in the whole world! If she isn’t our mommy, then who else could it be?’

The two wolf pups yipped and whined with all the energy their milk gave them, calling out, “Mommy! Mommy!”

Sierra could only give in.

The wolf pups’ situation was a bit different from what Sierra had expected. There was no way she could count on a bunch of wolves to mix up milk formula, so she’d have to keep the pups with her and look after them herself.

Sierra explained the situation to the alpha wolf, and he had no problem with it.

He knew Sierra would never harm the wolf pups anyway.

The elder wolves and a few of the strongest pack members stayed behind to guard the territory, while the rest of the wolves joined Sierra to escort the Kaelenridge Sheep to Lake Sylvenmir.

Sierra had already checked the map. By following this new route, the Kaelenridge Sheep would reach Lake Sylvenmir in another two weeks.

But if they stuck to their old migration path, it would take them almost twice as long to get there.

By late July, the Kaelenridge Sheep would normally have reached Lake Sylvenmir for lambing season. But this year, they were still trudging along the road, with plenty of little lambs that had only just been born mixed in with the herd.

For the grown Kaelenridge Sheep, the long trek was manageable, but for those tiny newborns, it was downright brutal, maybe even deadly.

This was exactly why Sierra had to strike a deal with the alpha wolf.

The wolves didn’t need to lift a paw. Just being there was enough to keep accidents at bay.

It didn’t take long before the wolf pack and the Kaelenridge Sheep teamed up and started their journey together.

The signal out in the desert was spotty at best.

Mark had just gotten Sierra’s phone when the signal died, and he was kicked offline.

For seven days straight, Sierra hadn’t gone live, leaving everyone waiting eagerly for her next broadcast.

55 VOUCHMEN

Meanwhile, Sierra and her crew had crossed the Kaelenridge Wilderness and were about to bring the Kaelenridge Sheep into the Coliburg region.

Deep in the wilderness, unless one had a satellite phone, one’s smartphone was basically useless.

They didn’t get any bars until they were nearly out of the wilderness.

As soon as Ethan saw his phone had signal, he reached out to the local authorities for help getting the Kaelenridge Sheep into Coliburg.

Luckily, the Kaelenridge Sheep migrated into the region every year, so the local authorities always responded quickly and had everything ready.

The trip had its tense moments, but most of the Kaelenridge Sheep made it safely into Coliburg. Now, all that was left was to wait seven days until they reached Lake Sylvenmir.

Sierra finally remembered she hadn’t streamed in forever.

As soon as she went live, thousands of viewers instantly flooded into her channel.

One commented: [You’re finally back. Do you know how much we’ve been suffering waiting for you? Hey, look at your background. Did you just make it out of Mount Kaelenridge?]

Another commented: [What happened to that female Kaelenridge Sheep and her baby? Did they get eaten or something?]

Someone commented: [That’s so heartbreaking.]

One commented: [Wait, when did you start keeping dogs?]

The chat was actually talking about the two wolf pups Sierra was holding in her arms.

Ever since the wolf pups started seeing Sierra as their mom, they stuck to her like glue.

Whenever anyone else from the wildlife rescue team tried to feed them, the pups would snarl and refuse even to touch the bottle. They’d rather go hungry than accept anything from anyone but Sierra.

To those little furballs, Sierra was the only mom in the world.

During the whole trip, the wolf pups snuggled up next to Sierra in the car, behaving like little angels. Sometimes they’d stick out their tongues, trying to get her attention and beg for a little extra love.

Sierra explained, “They’re wolf pups, about ten days old.”

Sierra glanced down at the pups, who were sleeping soundly and looked just like little puppies. She thought. ‘If I tossed them in with the local mutts around here, no one would ever guess they’re actually wolves.

In just seven days, the two wolf pups had visibly plumped up.

As Sierra was lost in thought, the chat was blowing up with comments.
