Chapter 95
Chapter 95
Fabian, terrified after the beating, had no choice but to come clean under the police’s relentless questioning and confessed everything.
They found the old lady lying in the tall grass off a deserted road, the back of her head soaked in blood.
The lady looked to be around seventy, and when they found her, she was completely out of it. Her lips were deathly pale, and the blood on the back of her head had turned a dark, almost black color.
When the collared crow saw the old lady in such a terrible state, it let out a piercing, mournful cry.
The collared crow looked up at Sierra, its voice trembling with desperation. It begged, “Please, miss, please save her. She’s all I’ve got. I never had parents. She took me in when I was little, fed me, cared for me, never asking for anything back.
“But now, I can’t do anything to help her. Please, I’m begging you.”
Sierra’s heart twisted as she saw the tears glimmering in the collared crow’s pitch-black eyes.
Even though it was injured, the crow still hopped down from Elliot’s arms, bouncing anxiously over to the old lady. It nuzzled up to her cheek, as if trying to feel if she was still breathing.
The scene left the police officers around them speechless.
“How can this bird be so smart?” one of the officers blurted out.
Sierra glanced at the crow and said, “Crows are actually really smart and sensitive to people. There’s probably a deep connection between it and the old lady.”
Just then, the paramedics arrived.
Sierra scooped the crow back into her arms and followed the ambulance to the hospital.
As they were about to get in, Sierra held the crow tight. Making sure no one was watching, she leaned in and murmured in a low voice, “Don’t worry, little one. She is going to be just fine.”
The collared crow hesitated for a moment.
Then, its eyes suddenly widened in surprise.
Sure, it wasn’t as clever as a human, but it wasn’t dumb either.
The crow thought, ‘It doesn’t seem like this beautiful human is just trying to make me feel better. It sounds more like a genuine promise.
‘But why would she make a promise to me?’
“Can you really hear me?” the collared crow asked nervously.
Its dark eyes looked totally shocked, but it kept staring at Sierra, not even blinking, desperate to know the truth.
Sierra didn’t try to hide it. Under the crow’s intense gaze, she slowly nodded.
Sierra gave a gentle smile and asked, “What’s your name?”
The collared crow just froze up for a second when Sierra asked. Its mind went totally blank, but it still blurted out, “I’m Snowy.”

Chapter 95
The old lady was the one who gave it that name, and Snowy really loved it
Sierra nodded and promised, ‘Rest easy, Snowy. We’ll make sure that lady’s safe and comfortable, and then you can come with me so I can get you patched up.”
Snowy’s injuries weren’t serious, but Sierra knew that if she tried to take it away now, Snowy wouldn’t want to leave the lady’s side, not while she was hurt.
Sure enough, Snowy nodded excitedly and said, “Thank you, human!”
Ever since it was born, Snowy had received so much kindness from humans that it didn’t even care where Sierra was taking it. All it knew was that Sierra had saved both it and the old lady.
So it figured that Sierra had to be the kindest human out there. Any human as gentle as the old lady was someone Snowy would trust, no questions asked.
Sierra and Snowy got into the ambulance together.
What Sierra didn’t notice was the brief look of confusion in Elliot’s eyes as he watched them from behind, but he quickly hid it.
When they got to the hospital, Sierra covered the surgery costs herself.
The old lady was incredibly lucky. Thanks to the quick rescue, she survived.
By the time Sierra finally left the hospital, the sky outside was just starting to lighten.
Fabian had been hauled off to the police station last night and was now under investigation. Snowy, a nationally protected animal and an injured animal, was also receiving medical treatment at the hospital, as required by law.
Elliot offered to drive Sierra home. Sierra nodded and said, “Thanks, Mr. Paterson.”
Elliot hesitated, giving Sierra a tentative look. He asked, “Would you say we’re friends now?”
Sierra was totally thrown off by that question.
Elliot’s face was full of wounded puppy-dog vibes. He said, “I thought we were already friends.”
“Of course we’re friends,” Sierra blurted out without thinking.
But Elliot just put on a wounded look. He said, “Then why do you keep calling me Mr. Paterson? Every time you say that, it makes me feel like I’m stuck working overtime at the office.”
Sierra just stared at him, lost for words.
Seeing how unhappy Elliot looked, she hesitated for a moment before saying, “Then should I call you Elliot from now on?”
Sierra thought, ‘Honestly, considering Elliot is Vivian’s son, calling him ‘Mr. Paterson’ all the time just feels kind of rude.
Sure enough, when Sierra switched to his name, Elliot’s face practically glowed with happiness
Sierra couldn’t help but think, ‘If Elliot had a tail right now, he’d be spinning it like a propeller
Before long, they pulled up to the gates of Wonder Wild Zoo.
As soon as Sierra got out of the car, she spotted Thomas and Ryan waiting at the entrance
As soon as Thomas saw Sierra, he rushed over. The moment he realized she was okay, the tension melted from his face.

Thomas didn’t even acknowledge Elliot, who’d just stepped out of the car with Sierra, and said, “Relax, Sierra. Fabian’s finished. If he doesn’t drop dead, I’ll make sure he spends the rest of his life behind bars.”
After saying that, Thomas stared intently at Snowy in Sierra’s arms, unable to look away.
Collared crows needed a really specific habitat to thrive. They were not officially endangered, but they were still hard to come by and super valuable.
Thomas carefully cradled Snowy, his face radiating grandfatherly kindness, so much so that Snowy almost thought it had run into some magical old witch.
Luckily, Sierra jumped in to explain, or Snowy might’ve been scared out of its wits.
Thomas headed off with Snowy, while Sierra got ready to say goodbye to Elliot.
“Elliot, I’m heading back now. You should go home and get some rest,” Sierra said.
Who could’ve guessed that just going out for dinner would turn into such a wild ride? Sierra and Elliot hadn’t caught a wink of sleep the whole night.
Elliot nodded, his expression gentle.
He watched Sierra until she disappeared through the gates of WonderWild Zoo, then finally turned and left.
Sierra was still in the same coat she’d worn all night, so she swung by her dorm room to change into something fresh before heading out to see how Snowy was doing.
The feathers around Snowy’s wound had been shaved, and it was still groggy from the anesthesia, lying there half-awake on the cold metal table.
Thomas had performed the surgery himself.
When he saw Sierra come in, he said, “Snowy’s going to be okay. Its wing and chest are fractured, but it’ll have to stay with us at WonderWild Zoo for a bit to heal before it’s ready to head back out into the wild.”
Sierra had already messaged Thomas last night, briefly telling him what Fabian had done.
The more Thomas thought about it, the more furious he became. He said, “I’m submitting Snowy’s medical report to the prosecutor’s office right now!
“Fabian can rot in prison for the rest of his life.”
While he spoke, he was already moving to do just that.
Sierra didn’t try to stop him, just said, “Go ahead. I’ll bring Snowy over to the aviary in a bit.”
Hearing that, Thomas grabbed Snowy’s medical report and marched out, determined to make sure Fabian pays for this.
WonderWild Zoo was massive. Just getting to the aviary alone took over twenty minutes. If visitors ever wanted to see the whole place, there’s no way they could see it all in just one day.
Sierra settled Snowy into a private glass enclosure in the aviary.
The staff had already disinfected the place before Sierra arrived. In the past, if an animal like Snowy got injured, it would’ve been stuck in a tiny cage to heal.
That was because people couldn’t talk to the animals, so they worried the rescued ones would freak out and make their

injuries worse by panicking and thrashing around.

But now, with Sierra here, any animal whose injuries weren’t too serious could recover in a roomy glass enclosure instead.
When Sierra brought Snowy into the glass enclosure, Snowy was just starting to wake up from the anesthesia, blinking groggily as it slowly came to.
“Pretty human?” Snowy mumbled with its tongue sticking out, sounding a little silly and slurred.
Sierra nodded and said, “I’m the head here at WonderWild Zoo. Just take it easy and heal up here, okay? Once you’re all patched up, I’ll personally take you back to that old lady.”
Snowy was still groggy, but the moment it heard Sierra’s words, it instantly snapped to attention and nodded eagerly.
It pressed its face right up against Sierra, totally missing the way Quickie’s eyes in the next glass room were practically shooting sparks of jealousy.
