Chapter 97
Chapter 97
Quickie’s eyes darted around nervously, refusing to meet Sierra’s gaze.
Sierra raised an eyebrow and asked, “What’s wrong? Haven’t figured out how to fool me yet?”
Quickie wished it could scratch its head and fidget like a human.
As Sierra spoke, Quickie shuffled its feet, looking just like a guilty kid.
Finally, it lowered its head in defeat and mumbled reluctantly, “Sierra, I was wrong.”
“So, what exactly did you do wrong?” Sierra pressed.
Quickie jerked its head up, beady eyes wide, totally incredulous.

Honestly, it only admitted fault to keep Sierra from blowing up. As for what it actually did wrong, with its almond-sized brain, Quickie had absolutely no clue.
Quickie lifted its head, giving Sierra those puppy-dog eyes and looking as sweet and innocent as it could.
Quickie blinked its shiny black eyes and carefully snuggled up to Sierra’s feet, hoping Sierra wouldn’t get mad.
Sierra looked at Quickie’s pitiful little act and couldn’t help but sigh inwardly.
It was one thing to know she had a way with animals, but seeing it play out right in front of her was something else entirely.
Quickie was always well-behaved. The zookeepers would sometimes let it out for a bit, but most of the time, it was stuck inside this square glass room.
It didn’t even get to fly around like the parrots in the aviary next door, who at least had some space to stretch their wings.
Sierra was the only one Quickie could communicate with.
So when Sierra brought Snowy over, she hadn’t really considered how Quickie/would feel.
But that just wasn’t right.
Sierra took a deep breath, crouched, and gently placed Quickie in her palm, eye to eye. She said, “Quickie, what made me mad today was that you snuck out of the glass enclosure on your own, and even got into a scuffle with your buddy.
Sierra paused, her voice grew stern as she continued, “I’m really upset.”
Quickie shivered, fear written all over its face. It kept mumbling, “I was wrong, I was wrong.”
Quickie’s voice was shaky, almost about to verge of crying.
It thought, ‘I don’t want Sierra to be angry. I won’t get jealous of the other birds again, and it definitely won’t go after those funny-looking birds.’
Quickie anxiously stomped its little feet, kept repeating, “Sierra, don’t be mad. I was wrong, I was wrong.”
As it spoke, it instinctively went to peck at its own feathers again.
But then it remembered Sierra wanted it to be healthy and not hurt itself anymore, so it had to fight the urge and stop itself.
Sierra saw this and knew Quickie’s anxiety wasn’t completely cured. It was just trying really hard to hold itself together.

Chapter 97
She thought, ‘Quickie can’t just hang out with humans all the time. It needs bird friends, too!
Sierra’s gaze fell on Quickie’s twisted wings.
She said, “Quickie, I’m not just mad because you picked a fight with Snowy. What really worries me is that you didn’t think about your own safety. The zookeepers can get distracted sometimes.
“If you sneak out and no one notices, and you’ve never been outside the aviary before. What if you end up in another animal’s territory by accident? That could be really dangerous.”
Quickie tilted its head.
It thought, ‘Wait, is Sierra not even blaming me?’
Back with its old owner, whenever he got angry, he’d just take it out on Quickie and the other birds: throwing them around, stomping on them, sometimes even refusing to feed them.
But even when Sierra was upset, she never threw Quickie, never stomped on it, and never kept it from eating.
Instead, Sierra was worried that Quickie would get hurt if it ran off on its own.
Quickie’s eyes started to sting, and finally, after sneaking a glance at Snowy, it confessed, “Sierra, I’m lonely. I can’t help but feel jealous of Snowy.”
Before Sierra could even feel a pang of sympathy, Quickie rolled its eyes dramatically. It said, “Seriously, why does Snowy, so ugly it’s a crime against nature, get all your love, while I, the most adorable and brilliant bird on the planet, get nothing?”
Sierra looked the bare little bird up and down, and most of her anger just melted away.
She poked Quickie on the head and said, “Who says I don’t like you? If I didn’t, would I have come running to save you? If I hadn’t been here today, Snowy would’ve pecked you to death!”
Quickie flopped onto its back, showing off its round little belly. Beneath its soft, warm, pink-and-white skin, Sierra could even see the bluish veins.
If Sierra couldn’t understand animal language, she never would’ve imagined that a palm-sized bird could get jealous, feel wronged, and even start complaining before anyone else did.
Life felt so vivid and full of color in that moment.
Sierra scooped up Quickie and plopped it down right in front of Snowy.
Quickie gave Snowy’s ugly mug a once-over, tilted its head, and let out a sharp sound.
Quickie thought, ‘Every single time I look at him, he is just as hideous as ever.
Snowy just shot Quickie a look like it was the village idiot, ignored it completely, and focused on Sierra instead.
Sierra said, “Quickie, go apologize to Snowy.”
Quickie jumped up, feathers all ruffled. It said, “No way. I won’t apologize.”
“If you don’t, I really won’t like you anymore,” Sierra warned.
The next second, Quickie blurted out an apology before it could even stop itself.
It said, “Snowy, I was wrong. Please forgive me.”
Quickie whined inwardly, ‘Sierra is so mean! Snowy was the one who pinned me down and beat me up.’

Quickie shot Sierra a resentful look, but at the same time, it was really scared Sierra would stop liking it, so it apologized in a flash.
Sierra curled her lips into a smile and looked at Snowy. She said, “Snowy, Quickie messed up this time. I’m not going to cover for it, and I won’t force you to accept its apology. Whether you forgive Quickie or not, it’s your choice.”
Snowy stared at Sierra, totally taken aback.
After all, from the way Quickie and Sierra got along, it was clear they’d been together forever. Snowy was just the newcomer, here to heal up, and when it came to their bond, it knew it couldn’t compare.
Snowy honestly never thought Sierra would stand up for it.
Seeing this, Snowy pointed its butt right at Quickie and said,”No way I’m forgiving this ugly bird.”
Quickie thought, ‘Ugly? Me?
‘Isn’t my voice adorable? Aren’t my feathers beautiful?
‘Okay, maybe my voice cracks sometimes, and I don’t have as many feathers as the others, but I’m still way better looking than that not-even-properly-black-or-white ugly crow.
Quickie’s chest puffed up with rage, itching to go teach Snowy a lesson. But with Sierra watching, it didn’t dare lay a feather on Snowy.
Sierra, totally merciless, said, “Since Snowy won’t forgive you, you’ll just have to keep saying sorry until it does.”
Quickie stared, stunned.
Sierra took a couple of steps away, then suddenly turned back, as she’d just remembered something. She said, “Oh, and since you’re so obsessed with sneaking into Snowy’s glass room, you can just stay there for the next few days.
“Forget about going back to your own spot.”
With that, Sierra walked off, leaving Quickie staring after her, totally shocked and helpless.
Once they stepped out of the aviary, Timothy couldn’t help but give Sierra a big thumbs-up.
He said, “Sierra, you’re amazing! Even a handful like Quickie listens to you and behaves.”
After joining WonderWild Zoo, Timothy had checked on Quickie’s situation himself.
He’d watched some of Sierra’s livestreams before she retired from streaming, so he knew just how much trouble Quickie could be.
So after he moved from Coliburg to WonderWild Zoo, he’d swing by to check on Quickie now and then,
The first time Timothy met Quickie, Quickie just blurted out at him, “Welcome to WonderWild Zoo, dumbass!”
Timothy was so mad that he spent the whole day drilling manners into Quickie.
But the next time, Quickie spotted Timothy from a mile away and shouted, “Hey, Timothy, you big dumbass! Welcome to
WonderWild Zoo!”
After that, Timothy realized Sierra was the only one in the whole zoo who could actually keep Quickie in line.
Just look at today: Sierra had Quickie totally eating out of her hand!
